Fresnel Horrified Survivor One thing no one mentions is that it's only a 12.5" barrel. That' two inches shorter than the M4, and given the loss of power from a 20" to 14.5", eh. I don't know the power numbers, but I can remember offhand it's a 200 yard loss in effective range between 16" and 20". The Colt Commando (at only 11.5" of barrel) clocks 2,611 ft/s, though. The M4 clocks at about 2,900, and the A2 at just over 3,000. So, if that's 200m loss for that hundred fps, it's basically an SMG/magnum pistol range. Which, admittedly, is what it was designed for, but... Come the ******** on. They say that the polygonal rifling will help the velocity stay reasonable, but I don't know if they ever did serious terminal comparisons. ANd the marines would never go for that wimpy kitty ghey s**t.

I am going into the Marines (ship out for basic August 10th) and I would love an XM8. Unfortunately, those are expensive and the Corps definitely isn't going to buy them, even if they could afford to.

Rain Vulcan There are tons of rifles I would have loved to see go in the hands of servicemen but since they didn't make it, they should have at least modified them for civilian use and offered them in the market.
An example of one of these would be the HK XM8, which I thought was a great concept since it could easily be modified to fit different purposes.
And another would be the HK 416 which I believe would have easily surpassed the M16 in combat. (btw the HK 416 is in service but only by certain Special Operations teams.)
Now, what guns would you guys have loved to see in the hands of servicemen or in the market? cool -Rain both those guns are actually i military trails right now

I really really really really REALLY want a semi-auto G36C to become commercially available in the U.S., but they won't do it, ever.
If not, then I want a non-U.S. version of the SL8 with the G36 style sight, grip and stock. The non-U.S. variant can accept the 30-round G36 magazine, but the U.S. version can't.

Well, once the MR556 comes out, you've got something halfway between the G36 and the AR-15. AR stylings with the G36 gas system.

That's basically all the HK416 is, an M4 carbine with the G36 gas system.

Yep, and also with the upper/lower interface changed so that you can only use an HK upper with an HK lower- at least for the civilian version.

Yeah, basically. I mean, they're damn good guns, I love the MP5 and the USP families. But once you get up to the assault/battle rifles, they're really nothing all that special. Especially the 416/417, they're just an AR-15 and an AR-10. Yes, they've got a short-stroke piston, yes, they're very good examples, superpremium rifles, but that's what they are, and trying to make them seem like magic, it's going to piss off most people. Of course, that's not their target market base.

I'd like to see a forward ejecting bullpup in a common intermediate calibre, such as .25-06 or .243. Bonus points if it uses a high-cap mag. Backup iron sights would be a must, as well as a rail to mount a reddot.

And I think that a Beta-C or one of those 90-rd Snail mags would work.

He was packing it up to leave just as I was rolling into the range. We talked for a bit though, and I got a picture of it.

It's pretty nice, the trigger is a little odd, honesty, big plastic thing moving straight back instead of the torque of a regular trigger. Doesn't have the same break, but it doesn't feel too bad.
