I just got back from the Air Show at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station!
The Blue Angels were there with the Fat Albert C-130, along with the Patriots and the Army Golden Knights parachute team. I also got to see the Canadian Snowbirds, which are amazing (Blue Angles are better still). There was also a heritage flight with a P-51 and an F-16, a Harrrier VSTOL demo, and a Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) demo, with simulated explosions.
The Marines also had booths out with their issue weapons! I got to hold the M4A1, M16A2 and A4, an M14 EBR, a match M16 and M14, an M4 with an M203, an M249, an M40A3, got to sit behind the Ma Deuce, and to top it off, I got to put on a ghillie suit and sit behind a Barrett M82!
Almost all of the M4's had ACOGs on them, the kind with the fiber optic light-capture system. I think those are very innovative.

Requiem in Mortis Fresnel Requiem in Mortis Then, the heritage flight took place, and the F-22 was flying along side a P-51 Mustang and an F-86 Sabre. It was incredible. I will never understand how they can make a jet go that slow. I mean, the P-51 was no slouch, but this thing's a ******** jet fighter designed for supersonic combat. How does it not fall out of the sky trying to keep pace with a plane that would explode if it hit the sound barrier? I have no clue, but they manage it. I know that an F-86 doesn't have a stall speed much higher than a P-51, so that flying at the same speed just meant the pilot had to keep the thottle back and a good handle on his stick. The F-22 however probably had all flaps deployed and the pilot shitting bricks as his stall alarm went off. I saw the snowbirds (all 9 of them) escort a Spitfire IX into Abbotsford Airport at the show a couple years back, the spitty's Merlin was screaming but the Tutors didn't seem to have a problem going slow. Coolest thing I've seen lately was a pair of CC-115 Buffalo's doing STOL runs at the local airport (grass strip, I work just past the end of it) and doing para-rescue drops. Four Turbo-props roaring over at full throttle is pretty awesome I have to say.

The coolest and most hilarious thing I saw was a C-130 with some JATO rockets strapped to it take off at about 60 degrees of climb for about 1000 feet.

I watched a stunt pilot "from Folsom Prison", who "built his makeshit plane in the machine shop", wobble through the sky while his plane "broke apart." I then watched as he landed the plane on top of a moving pickup truck. I mean a FULL landing- he stopped on top of it and everything.
