I could agree with that. However, it might be harder since you'd know the person having what is biologically your child.

Personally I would want to know who the child and vice verse. I don't like the anonymity and the sterile nature of donating. I also don't think it is fair to the children who should have a right to if nothing more the other half of their health background so they know what they need to worry about later on in life.

Only thing attachment wise I don't think I could do was a surrogacy where I would be expected to carry the baby to term and then give it up. I don't think I would have the strength to carry a baby for nine months than hand him/her over.

I wouldn't want to spread my genes because I ended up with bad acne genes and that's not something you want to have whether male or female.

Also, there's plenty of unwanted children and babies up for adoption. So many that you could easily skip all the unwanted years like terrible twos and such. Not only that, but you can pick where it comes from! Just listen to this awesome commercial informing people about all the options!

Cassidy--nope, sperm donation is anonymous, and there is no way for the parents to track you down with accordance with the law. The story of being sued is an urban legend.

Ah, good to know, then. Though I'm sure it hasn't stopped people from trying.

I do know clinics keep track of who a donor is, so that requests can be made regarding medical information if multiple kids turn out to have problems. I read an article some time back about a donor who passed all the requirements for donation, but three of the five women who used him had severely autistic children, and one of the other two also showed milder signs.

Well, the reason people would want to go through childbirth is so that they could feel that it really is theirs.
Still, I do think that this desire is kind of an irrational one coming from society's obsessive preoccupation with a "normal, traditional" family. If I were infertile and wanted children I'd definitely adopt.

As for me, I'm not sure I'd be too upset not knowing who my biological father/mother is. I'd be grateful to be alive, and have parents who planned extensively, knowing that they wanted children, instead of a couple of teenagers who regret the night of drunken lovemaking that made an accidental child and stole their dreams from them.

If you want to know who the child is, you can be an independent sperm donor. Gay women who want children can ask a friend to donate sperm.

I've actually looked for local sperm donation places but I'm not sure what to look for in the phone book.

I'd really be interested if I knew it was going to a lesbian couple, maybe less so with infertile couples.


I have no intention to have children. Yet, as most life forms, I wish to spread my genes. But how can I spread my genes and father offspring if I do not wish to have children myself? Sperm donation may be the answer.

I may not be perfect but I am intelligent, and I wish to spread those intelligent genes into the world, because we need more smart people and less stupid people.

And hell, being paid money for something I do on an almost daily basis?! It's just too bad there's no sexy nurse helping you out when you do it.

It's arguable over whether or not intelligence is genetic or not. Lack education is the primary reason for the lack of intelligent people however.

Access to resources is probably the one major limiting factor towards education. It's no surprise that places with bad economies and large sections of poor population often end up not producing many highly educated people.

The other limiting factor is more social. It's not surprising that in communities that foster drug addiction and crime as an easy way to get more cash than a minimum wage job ever could pay, that this is what you end up with. Going slightly into the economics, people born into poor families will often end up poor themselves. Many people like to think that in the US we essentially have the freedom to "choose our class", and become wealthy or poor based upon our work, or highly educated in the same token. This was never true.

Of course, this is all just education in the US (Which isn't free. And college you have to pay quite a bit for, where in other countries it's actually free.) Intelligence is more than just formal education. However, most people rate someone's intelligence by the number of degrees they have. Or even the number of things they can remember. In the end, it's very difficult to really determine someone's actual intelligence. There are plenty of people with degree or who fancy themselves as cream on top of society. In the end, they're no different than anyone else, or perhaps are just plain ignorant. Not really a sign of intelligence...wisdom either.

The most likely people to get sperm donations are people who are well off, usually middle class, probably white, in a decent neighborhood with decent schools. And more than likely married. So I doubt any of my b*****d children will be going to crappy schools. But it's possible.
