At the risk of sounding like a troll

BAR > FG42
It's alright, as I do not care in the least.

I could comment on the frugality of trying to determine which firearm was "Better" but as I said earlier, the only reason I dream of acquiring an FG-42 is because I JUST DO.

Best reason I can give you.
Honestly, I'd love both weapons.

Any semi-automatic rifle with a detachable magazine that holds more than ten rounds, because California sucks.
I wish I could give you a hug.

BAR

Bren

Any Masterkey system, preferably the original

M203 (37mm just won't cut it)

BOFORS

and that Glock 18. That's a good idea, there.

Although there are some Semi-auto and 'Civilianized' versions and or reproductions of those variants of the following;

G36
G36k
SIG 550
MG42
MG34
BAR
DP28
M2 Browning
FG42
MP40
PPSH41
PPSH43
StG-44
M1919
Flak 88
Pak 38
PTRS-41
UMP-45
Beretta M93R
Thompson 1928 and 1928A1 model
MP-28
Kalashnikov PKM
Degtyarov DShKM 12.7
M60
AK-74 (Russian)
AK-47 (Russian)
M16, early type with the 3 prong flash hider.

That's all that I can think of right now.

Anyway, the BAR and FG42 were built for specific purposes.
Both had 20 round magazines and if they weren't made so close to the new era of rifles then they may have been made better.

SIG SG-550. WANTS. BAD. I COULD get a semi version, but it'd take one and a half decades. At least. I'm going to school to get my forestry certification to be a park ranger, and they don't allow firearms within school grounds. Since I'd live on school grounds, that means no guns for two years. Then once I'm certified I have to go through the ringer with the Canadian immigration service to get a visa so I can leave America for good. That could take a couple years. There's an eight year waiting list, but my park ranger certification would speed me past that, as it's a skill the Canucks want. If you have a skill they want, you get into the country much faster. Then I'm restricted to whatever firearms I'm issued as a park ranger until I'm a Canadian citizen, which takes years of residence. Then I can buy a semi-auto SIG.

I can get it in Canada, too. I just have to be a citizen first. Oh, and I looked it up. They aren't park rangers in Canada. They're park wardens, and you do not need to be a Canadian citizen to be one. You just have to have the proper certification (which I'm getting through Job Corps). They are also issued firearms.

Oh yeah, I also want an MP-5K and a Thompson. I don't think there's a selector switch on the Thompson, though... I guess I'd want a semi-auto version of it, to keep from going broke from the ammo price.

I could have sworn there was a selector switch on the Thompson.
Or at least one of the variants.
Possibly the earlier model?

Yup, Thompson M1

Well, the person that chewed you out is a retard.

Got told what for and looked for something to disprove you.

While I did get this from wikipedia as well, it clearly shows a select fire switch on the Thompson M1.
