i'm wondering if you could say "anata desu ka?" for a more slang term, like "you are?"

Foreign names are written in Katakana and yes there are no Ls or Vs in the Japanese Language and are thus substituted with similar sounds from the Ra, Ri,ru,re,and ros

Anata, is actually a formal phrase below Omae. for familar people, use kimi.
