Fia nodded. "There has to be a lion out there suitable to be here with us in the Firekin. Someone who knows how to use healing stuff..." She wrinkled her nose. Ah, another problem. "I guess healers would use, like, plants and stuff to heal. That's one thing we're lacking here. I suppose we'll have to put our heads together and think of a solution to that, too. See, and here was our parents thinking we're nothing but mischievous little miscreants! To think it!"

She was excited about the prospect of making a change in the way the Firekin ran. Excited, too, to find adventure even as an adult. Being with An had made her realise how much fun childhood had been, and how quickly it was snatched away. Being grown up wasn't all it was cracked up to be! You had responsibilities to do. Reputations to keep. There were rules and politics at every corner and turn!!

And than Azar'bijan was causing grief again...

"Can't speak?! That's probably because you don't give him a chance, to! Now, shut up, twin, and mind your own bloody business!" He hated not being sure who was who. Perhaps if he paid attention to names and roles, he would have known straight away that Ea was the doctor and that surely the one who was being extra protective was she. But since youth, Azar had never bothered himself with anyone he had deemed as being in unimportant roles. (i.e. anyone who wasn't a general, captain, sergeant or lieutenant.)

He turned back to his brother and was somewhat afraid by what he saw in his eyes. Somehow he didn't think he was helping by being there...

He stood, quite suddenly, and backed away. Then, he turned and made to exit, moving slowly. "I don't even think he knows who I am." He directed the words at no one. Perhaps he even spoke to himself.

Ea honestly wasn't sure what healers used- and it was of infinite frustration to her. And the resources the pride had available were slim at best. Perhaps firekin in the past had had some sort of doctor- but, if they had, Ea assumed that if the plague hadn't gotten them the rebellion had. She sighed and rolled her head back, but stopped the motion when a laugh cut through her. "Oh, that would show them wouldn't it!" She half cackled, twisting her tail. "Ea and Fia do something constructive? I think we'll put some greys on their fur!"

But, as Azar continued to be an idiot, Ea felt the need to intervene. She stood up and stormed across the cave, her tail flicking like a whip. "Haven't given him a chance? Oh! I'm so sorry! I was focusing on keeping him breathing, not keeping him talking. I won't make that mistake again!" She muttered sarcastically. "He nearly had his throat ripped out. Even if he can speak- we won't know until that swelling goes down."

Azar was already backing away; almost as though he'd seen a ghost. "Oh, you baby." Ea muttered. "Relax."

She moved around the weary Vlam, and quietly adjusted his paws and the small scrap of hide. "He can still hear you, you know. It isn't like his ears got damaged." She brushed aside a tuft of red mane, and continued to mommy about her patient. "So don't give him reason to be depressed."

Fia glanced over as Ea went to scold Azar again. What was he? Just a big kid, or what? Seriously, what was up with boys and this late maturing, thing? Actually, if she was going to be fair, it wasn't all boys. Xipil certainly didn't seem immature and reminded her a lot of Kidondo. In fact, Xipil seemed to take his personality from both parents in his calm views and steady determination. Perhaps that's why she wanted to see him happy and not so...alone all the time.

She stretched and lay on her belly, sphinx style, as she listened to her sister informing Azar in her matter-of-fact way. She found another smile upon her maw, finding herself feeling strangely happy listening to her sister so in control of the situation.

To think, cubsitter Ea would rise to become something so much more! Well, Fia had always known it. But everyone else...? Certainly not! What a surprising pair, they made!

"What's the point of hearing if you can't talk back?" Azar snapped at Ea. He was always a talk first, think later kind of guy.

"Maybe it's time to think of someone other than yourself, Azar. Your brother needs someone familiar right now. Are you leaving because you are ashamed of him? Afraid, maybe?" Fia eyed the splotched male to see how he would react.

"You shut up!" He hated them knowing his name and him not able to tell one from the other. "I ain't scared of my brother." He moved further away but Fia got to her paws to stop him. Her mismatched eyes met his crimson ones and did not look away.

Eventually he broke the gaze and turned back to look at his brother, lying at the back of the den. "You...think he'll talk again?" His voice was quieter this time, strangely serious sounding for someone who rarely spoke with any genuine emotion.

Ea would have been delighted at the notion. Yes. Cubsitter Ea-! Now so well respected. Even feared. She was horrified to say that she truly did believe she was good at this. And not just good. Damn good. She didn't know a thing about what she was doing, but she had kept a lion with its throat ripped out alive for almost a week now. That had to stand for something. She liked seeing the look on her mother's face every time she came to visit. The face that said- 'this isn't my daughter, is it?'

"Ashamed seems likely." Ea remarked, looking over to Fia. "And let it not be said, it was awfully embarrassing for Vlam to be caught in such a predicament. Considering he was such a fine warrior! My, wasn't he apprenticed to the former captain? But he lives! That counts for something. Don't back away. It's not like we all haven't screwed up at some point."

In fact, it seemed Vlam's screw up had been Ea's launch point to her own success. And, well. She had to admire a guy to take a bullet for her like that! [Even unwillingly.]

But her face grew solemn when Azar's voice turned more serious. Good. Enough with the idiot prattle. She looked towards Vlam, and spread her paws in a shrug. "Like I said. There's no way we'll know until the swelling goes down. I'm doing the best I can, but I'm not an adequate healer. I've saved his life for now. That's all I claim to be able to accomplish. His voice? That's another thing. But, I hope at least for now, he does not."

She supposed that needed explanation. She looked towards Fia, and dipped her head. "I believe his safety will only last so long as his voice is silent. If he speaks- I am quite sure the killer will make another attempt on him." Then she turned to Azar. "So, you'd better not be telling any lies in hopes of making the others feel better. The sicker people think Vlam is, the better for him."

And Ea.

Azar didn't like these too. He didn't like that one of them was taking care of his brother and he didn't like how they had forced him to obey them so that he could catch a glimpse of his sorry hide. It had been a mistake coming here. What had he been expecting to be able to do, anyway? Convince himself that it might be okay? He probably wasn't even supposed to be here.

Ea was right, after all. He was being questioned and him being here...well, it might not look good.

He knew, as the twin had said, that everyone made mistakes. He knew better than any. In fact, all he seemed to do was make mistakes, ever since he'd been very small. And did he learn from them? No. Did he even try? Seemingly not. But then, if Azar'bijan did not make mistakes, he would not be Azar'bijan. It was who he was.

"Well if you're not an adequate healer." He replied. "We should get someone who is." The words were mumbled rather than angry. His ears, however, lifted with suspicion as she continued. She did not want him to speak? Well, why NOT?! He braced himself for another argument, but found his words lost as she continued. The killer might come again? If he spoke it might put him in danger?

"They should put guards on the door, then." He replied. "To make sure that doesn't happen."

Fia interjected. "Guards are not so plentiful as you might think. All that we have are guarding the borders to ensure the culprit does not make his or her escape. We cannot let the one responsible get away with this, can we, now?"

"Please do. If you know a healer in the pride, I would die to switch places. Really I would. But there's not, so you'd better be happy with me." She muttered, twitching her tail from side to side. "And Fia is right about the guards. They occasionally pop in to check on me, but they simply can't be spared at the moment." After all, it wasn't just the murderer that was in danger. Tension was high between the pride and the newly arrived rogues. Guards were needed to make sure they would not be dealing with two murders eventually.

"But, don't worry." Ea purred. "I'm quite good at sensing danger." Even with all her dreams, bone tossing and heretical beliefs, Ea had never quite settled upon the idea that she was a seer. She did, however, believe she was something of good luck. Rarely did Ea find herself in a dangerous situations that she did not have at least some advantage on.

Ea only hoped, that if the attacker was to come, she would dream about it the night before. Unfortunately, the way this was all going, Ea hardly had the time to sleep.

"But that's besides the point. We both know you didn't do it." Ea muttered. She wouldn't explain her reason on how she knew- but, she had a feeling Azar was too fail to accomplish much of anything, let alone murder his brother. "So I suggest you make use of people thinking you are to figure this out. If you really care and want to see this at an end."

Azar scowled a little, biting back a sharp remark that at least she was good at something! If she was good at sensing danger than he supposed that brought a little comfort.

"What you know and what others know is a different matter entirely." Besides, he thought to himself, maybe he deserved all this that was happening to him. He always seemed to mess everything up no matter how hard he tried not to. He shook his head and moved up towards the exit, turning to glance back at the sisters, still not sure who was who. The white's of his eyes shone vivid under the touch of the light outside.

"I can try but don't put much faith in me to do that." He cast a look past them to the brother that lay wounded. His eyes narrowed a little and, casting them another look, he departed without another word.

"Well." Fia snorted when she was sure he was gone. "He's still as charming as he was when he was a cub." She sat up and shifted to scratch behind an ear, her body tilting a little. "I might just stay here for a while, rest up where no one will know where I am. Will that be okay, Sis?"

She didn't suppose to know what others thought. And she wasn't about to put more faith in Azar then was needed. But after being so close to Vlam, so close to dancing between life and death, she had to hope at least for Vlam's sake, that his brother wasn't a complete waste of space. She knew that if Vlam could speak, that's what he would have wanted her to say.

"Try is all that's needed." She remarked. "But, I'd hope you'd put a little effort into it. You know. It's just your brother's life, after all." What more could she ask for? She sniffed, and turned around. All she knew is that if they had been switched- if it had been Fia lying their half dead, Ea would have torn the pride in half by now trying to find who was responsible.

But then, Fia wasn't about to do a foolish thing like getting caught by some assailant. Who couldn't even finish the job.

She turned to her sister though with a smile. "Indeed! I can't say sanity runs in that family. How unfortunate." She sighed. She was glad to hear her sister would be staying though. It was nice to have someone who did not groan every five seconds. "Of course, I can honestly say, I don't think anyone will be looking for you here."

Her face stretched into a toothy grin, moving over to check on Vlam. "I'll tell you one thing. When this boy wakes himself up, he's going to owe me big time."

And with that, she got down to work.

"Bad blood." Fia replied curtly, settling herself on the den floor, curling her tail against her hind legs and cradling her muzzle in her forepaws. "Bad parenting. Bad something." She continued. "Whatever it is, something went wrong with that litter. Let's hope that the desert doesn't bring any more like them." She rolled her eyes a little, hoping that any future children they might spawn would be smoothed out by the other parent's genes.

She smiled. "And if they do...I'll just pretend I'm sleeping so deeply that I can't hear." She yawned, her whiskers twitching, and watched as her sister padded over towards Vlam.

She let her eyes closed, an ear twitching towards the direction of Ea's voice. Yes. Poor Vlam.

She grinned, sighed, and then she slept.
