Xipil nodded, he understood why the thought might make his companion sad. She was a innocent still and had a lot to learn. Fate was not always kind. "It is unfortunate but it cannot be helped," he lamented "It is tradition and one of the things we held on to after the split," he shrugged and began to walk again.
Such a heavy topic for such as young lion.
His brows furrowed as he heard his sister's voice. Inwardly he cringed, the girl was certainly very different from him and she seemed to like meddling in his affairs. It was a pity. He swallowed and forced a smile as he glanced over at her.
"Hello sister," he called nodding his head. "I have to break every now and then or I will wear my body out," he stated wondering why everyone made a big deal about him not training. That wasn't the only thing he did.
"Please sister, do not talk of mates," he sighed not liking the idea. Relationships were not something he liked to think about. "I do not have time for a relationship," he told her shaking his head. "Nor am I interested in one."

She nodded, thinking that it was best to leave such a topic alone until she had a better grasp of such things. She wanted Xipil to have fun, not be weighed down by the burdens of others. Neither of them had to worry about it as they were both coloured as fire. They could both stay and live here as Firekin.
She let the smile return to her face and opened her mouth to continue speaking when suddenly their conversation was being interrupted.
How rude!!
She couldn't help but fluff up in irritation, able to still her tongue as she realised the female was not just any female, she was Xipil's sister. A daughter of the Regents. Father would not be happy if she ended up upsetting her. Besides, did she not have a right to say hello to a sibling?
Even still, she shuffled a little closer to Xipil, seeming to want to keep her from getting to close in case Fia wanted to steal their time together. And then she faltered, her ears lifting bolt upright as Fia spoke of...of a girl for Xipil? Whaaat? That couldn't be right! Why would she want Xipil to find a girl! And if so, wasn't there the perfect girl standing here, right next to him!? And then Xipil's response all but broke her heart. He wasn't interested in a mate? Not ever? Not even her? Sure, she was little now, but she wouldn't always be! One day she'd be a grown up lady and then she'd be able to be together with him! This wasn't fair!
Her chest rose and fell with each sharp breath, her eyes welling. She tried to control them but found it difficult. Even still, she swallowed back the bitter disappointment.
Fia, unaware of the child's emotions, continued. "Nonsense. When I find the right girl for you and you meet her, you'll wonder why you never considered a mate before." She blinked her mismatched eyes. "Just you wait and see."
She smiled at him, then, with a wink, moved off again, continuing towards the oasis. She was parched!
When she was on her way, Vesta meekly looked up at Xipil, ears flat against her head. "You don't want a girlfriend?" Her voice was small but she tried to keep it sounding like a general query rather than a heartfelt, desperate question.

Xipil seemed unaware of poor Vesta's emotions as his sister pried her way into his love life. He was a simple creature, one of brilliance (or so he liked to think) and a touch of philosophy. He was constantly thinking about his next move, the next possible step he would take to help not only himself but his pride.
He never spent time thinking of romance, he found it far too troublesome and unpredictable. The small crush he had on one female had proved fruitless, as a result he pushed all thoughts of a relationship from his thoughts.
Besides he didn't know how to deal with his emotions very well. Even now he wasn't good with his feelings. He frowned at the question. "No, I am not interested in a relationship, just as I told Fia," he told her. "It just is not a priority or something I really have time for," he explained unaware of the reason she had asked him.

"Oh." She tried not to sound too disappointed, but her little face looked crestfallen at his response. "I...I guess you're right. You're awfully busy and...well...yeah." She trailed weakly and then turned to glance off after Fia's silhouette. How dare she just stroll by and ruin their little time together.
It wasn't fair!
"Um...I just remembered, I promised my Mum I'd go help out at home. Sorry, Xipil. I'll come by and see you another time, okay? Oh, and don't forget your flower! Someone else might take it if you leave it on the ground!"

Xipil was no fool, he recognized the look of disappointment that Vesta now wore. What he didn't understand was why she looked crestfallen, why she was...hurt by his words. "Vesta," he began taking a step forward. He didn't get the chance to continue when she suddenly brought up some sort of excuse to leave and run off.
He furrowed his brows but said nothing, only watched in silence. "Very well," he told her with a small shrug. "I will see you around," he stated turning around and heading back toward the tree she had found him under.
He was going to rest, relax and consider the possible reasons as to why she had gotten so upset. "Good day Vesta."

"Goodbye." She murmered, turning and heading off across the sands. She felt bad for making excuses, for lying to him. But...she was upset and she knew she wouldn't be able to be near him without saying something. And, saying something, would be a bad idea.
He didn't want a girlfriend!
It would take her a few days to come to terms with it, but, Vesta would not come to terms with it in the way you would hope. For all her timidness, she was also stubborn and, when she had calmed, she would realise that it was not so hopeless. That she could win his heart if she just kept trying. And, so long as Fia didn't find someone in the meantime! She'd have to be there to warn any potential females away. Yes indeed.
