Yep.
Doesn't exist. 3nodding
They did pass a lot of casinos that do exist in reality though.
And the back of the Vegas sign really does say to "Drive safely, come back soon" or something like that.
(I don't go to the strip often)

I should watch CSI: Las Vegas one day.
See how much of the town I recognize. xD

So "dude" there kind of leaked over through American TV like we've sort of picked up "bloody hell" from British shows and movies?
PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2010 3:06 pm
lol, even in Kentucky, we say the word dude. I use it all the time. lol
dude, dude, dude, duuuuuuuuuuude!!!!!

I learned the term "bloody 'ell" from the Harry Potter series. Like I said, I'm not big into TV and movies.

I've never seen Full Monty or Cloverfield. (Maybe I should just get a whole bunch of movies...)

I'm OBSESSED with CSI: Las Vegas. Well, actually, I like the other two, too. CSI: Miami and CSI: New York, too. But the LA one is the best in my opinion... or was until they killed off Warrick Brown and Gill Grissom left the show, along with Sarah Sidle, who ended up marrying Gil in the end of their time on the show... crying

I don't know if it's anything like the real LA, but it's still fun to watch. Especially the Miniature Killer episodes. Friggin' awesome!!!! twisted

at your current location?well the weather here is rather mild i would say, average 50-70 almost all year around.

What's the local dialect like? I honestly would not know
What's a pretty common food made in your house? Well my family is from mexico so it would be mexican food
Local terrain? (Is it mountainous, flat, covered in trees, a desert, ect? we have it all here in the bay area.
Is there any really interesting things about where you live, like festivals and historical points of facts. none that come to mind right now

Black:
Okay, so dude isn't just a West Coast thing.
I was curious because I never hear it said in shows that take place anywhere else but California.
(Though TV usually isn't a good reference for culture in an area)

I... don't remember where I learned "bloody hell" from.
I think my friend who was a total Britainophile for a while.
(I like the British as much as the next person but she was OBSESSED. It got so obnoxious)

I've never seen Full Monty either, I'll have to watch it one day.
I've found libraries have a surprisingly good movie selection, may want to check there if you don't want to pay.
(Because I can't borrow a movie and pay for it now that I know the library down the street has a pretty good collection)

I like CSI but I just watch it casually, when it's on I watch it but I don't obsessively watch it.
Some areas in LA are scary.
But I lived in the richer area.
It's funny because whenever I meet other people from LA they always name the iffy areas of town as where they're from.
Then I have to tell them that I'm from Bel-Air. sweatdrop
(I was in the "lower" part of Bel-Air but that was still a really nice area. I wasn't in the area you'd see on Fresh Prince)

Jacob:
What general area are you from?
I just assume California, maybe San Francisco to Los Angeles area, from "bay area".

I am from The San Francisco Bay Area, yep Cali. Though I have been to many places.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 01, 2010 4:29 pm
I've heard San Francisco is nice.
That's one thing I really miss about California.
The weather was so mild, here it's either mega-hot or cold.
It's only nice about two or three months out of the year.

I've been out of the state... once... and it was for a school trip to the Cinncinati Museum of Arts. Which was pretty awesome. The city was a bit of a culture shock since I'm used to seeing houses and buildings with one, sometimes two floors. In Cinncinati, it was like "WHOOSH"!!! I think I was gonna fall over if I tried to look at the main top of the buildings. rofl Even in Lexington, Ky. the buildings aren't even close to the massive size as they are there. (I'm gonna assume areas like LA are no exception either.) Lots of gorgeous old fashioned churches around there, too. Our local church used to be a small pink building. rolleyes
It was recently redone and now has red brick and a new kitchen area... but still pretty small otherwise. It finally got an indoor bathroom, too!!!

TV is really biased. I get really agitated everytime I see a redneck character and stuff. They are always white people, the women are usually ugly (or if it's a young teen girl, they look like Daisy Duke), and the men like to get drunk. evil
We're not dumb, we've got electricity, and most of us still have our teeth and actually look like everyone else!!!
And I don't live in a trailer! (That would be my neighbor. lol)
Ahem, I'm done rambling. xp

It's alright.
If TV stereotypes were real I'd either be a chill surfer that calls everyone either "dude" or "brah", I wouldn't be too bright, and more than likely blonde and tan, but naturally.
Or I'd be fake blonde, fake boobs, fake tan, dumb, and gold-digging hanging around casinos and clubs looking for the high rollers.
TV biases are so silly.

Ohman, I've never been to a small town so large areas of small buildings, two or less stories, are weird to me. xD;
I'm used to my cities large and tall with something always going on.

lol, well, it'll be a shock to you when you go visit the country, cause it's really tiny when it comes to businesses and stuff. (Sadly the roads seem to be longer cause of this... thirty minutes in either direction from my house to get to a town for groceries and whatnot...)
You'll really freak when you go see a trailer park. There's more homes there, but all of them are only one floor. rofl
We used to have a big entertainment store in Hazard, and it had everything from music to anime to manga to just everything a country otaku would want. Sadly, it closed about a year ago. Now all I find dealing with anime and manga is stuff about Naruto, DBZ and the like at Wal-Mart crying
But I think I'd rather not live in the city. Too many people, and I'll will probably get worried about having one of those buildings fall right on top of me.
Oh, yeah, one thing I think I'd like about the city: not so many nosy people. You come to my town, EVERYONE there will know your full name, where you come from, your jobs, everything. Seriously, in one week, everyone'll know you. I actually think there may be a bug in my phone cause as soon as someone calls my house about a problem, dozens of calls come soon after asking for info. xp (I think it may be one of my great-aunts, too...) If you don't want people to know, don't tell ANYONE!!!

Pah
Country!
Who goes there?

I kid, I kid.
I actually find the country fascinating because of that aspect.
Cities are so anonymous, it'd be kind of neat to have everyone know you.
When I lived in LA I'd never even seen my neighbors.
But I don't think I could live in the country.
I'm used to everything being open all the time and just blending in.
That's kind of crazy though.
I complain that none of my friends ever call me but I'd get sick of that pretty fast.
