Waist-mounted quivers would be a pain in the a** while running.
Depends on how it's mounted. Do it right, and it's no worse than a hip mounted sword or ax.

No. Actually it would be quite worse. Ever run with a bucket of water? The end of the quiver can not be tied to the leg because it would hamper mobility, but the end result is the quiver can swing. So if you are running and that quiver decideds to swing in front of your knee on a step its going to be tilted backwards and you lose your arrows. Also in comparison a sheath is tight fitted to a sword or axe and not loose like arrows and you are only controlling one item versus dozen(s).

Also i prefer thigh mounted quivers for crossbow and back quivers for any type of longbow. My personal favorites with the crossbow are ones that have a tight fitting space for each bolt. I don't like hip mounted quivers because of the fact i have to lower my bow completely to go over my arm to reach the arrows or if i go under i have to flip the arrow up once i remove it. With back quiver its just tilt yourself forward a tad, grab, pull up, flip over shoulder and slam it home into position. Though for hunting i use a compound bow with a mounted row of clips to hold the arrows just so i'm not rattling around a bunch of metal rods.
I've used hip quivers, and never had that problem. I can run just fine with one, and have before. It bangs a little, but it's not at all intolerable. I can also reach the arrows better than I can with a back mounted quiver. Again, why do you think everyone used hip quivers in the middle ages? Hell, half the time they had no quiver, and just shoved the arrows into their belt.

Then again, maybe modern materials and construction techniques make back quivers more feasible than they once were? If that were the case, it would explain your and Fresnel's experience.

Also, what's with all the back mounted quivers in fantasy? Any archer worth his/her salt knows that quivers should be worn on the hip, not back, as a hip mounted quiver is much easier to reach into to get another arrow or bolt. You practically have to be double joined to draw from a quiver on your back, especially if you have a longbow or are on horseback. Hell, look at artwork of medieval European archers. Most of them are wearing their quivers on the hip. Same with art of Asian or Native American archers.

He's wearing a quiver as it was meant to be worn, and doesn't look any worse than he would with it on his back.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed,
but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance...

Quivers can be worn on the back too, though this particular one is meant to worn on the side of your thigh. Also, although slightly more uncomfortable, back quivers are easier to unload arrows from and at a fast rate, and it easier to move around quickly without the leg quiver banging around and getting caught on shrubs and sh*t.

... In Switzerland they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years
of democracy and peace, what did they produce? The cuckoo clock.

In my experience, the opposite has been true. History seems to agree with me.

Good luck keeping your arrows in your hip quiver if you're on a horse.

Uh, virtually all horse archers used hip quivers. If you don't believe me, do some research on the Mongols. If you think back quivers are hard to draw from on foot (in my experience, they are), it's ten times worse on a horse.

Maybe you're just an immobile cripple. I've never had any problems with a back quiver when it comes to archery.

Same here. Although it's IMPOSSIBLE to re-quiver an arrow on a back quiver, I've never had problems drawing from the back.

A skilled archer could just shoot the arrow straight up and catch it in the quiver. 3nodding

You've NEVER seen Lord of the Rings???

And +1 on never having a problem drawing from a back quiver, but putting arrows back is a pain.

EDIT: He kinda reminds me of Link wearing that.
