Watashi wa jyuu san sai desu.

Question;; Can Yon and Nana still be used for maths and counting inanimate objects? Are there any conditions where you could not use Yon or Nana and would have to use Shi or Shichi?

Watashi wa jyuu nana sai desu. Nan sai desu ka?

WAIT! I have a question! Do you add the '?' at the end of the question or does 'ka' replace that altogether? or does it not matter for it is a spoken question?

Counting things is one of the most complicated aspects of Japanese. There are actually entirely different sets of "counter" numbers for counting things... one set for spheres, another for cylinders, etc. We will get to those later.

If you are counting things off... for instance, if you were at a dojo and they were calling out the number of punches to do, they would count up ichi... ni... san... shi... never yon or nana.

ok, you're teaching them the counting method for 11-99. My friend has told me this, I was thinking wiht the method of counting you showed us, 100 would be jyuu jyuu, but it's actually kyaku. so like 103 would be sanhyaku ^-^
