There's a reason Masashi Kishimoto made them each represent the slug, snake, and frog.
It's because in Japan, they used to have a different version of 'Rock, paper, scissor'. Instead of using a rock, a paper, and a scissor, they used the slug, frog, and snake.
The frog is afraid of the snake, the snake afraid of the slug, and the slug afraid of the frog. This hints that no Sannin is stronger than the other. How is the snake afraid of the slug?
