Its a lot harder than Fallout 3, a lot. Im out of stimpacks, low on ammo, and frighteningly close to death most of the time. I love it. I got one shotted by a Blind Deathclaw, and I'm currently stuck in a basement full of cloaked supermutants. I'm boned. Weapons seem to last longer, though.
I notice I'm pretty good on stimpacks, but I can't seem to hold onto my money too well. I offloaded everything I didn't want at a shop then 10 minutes spent all the caps I made off it for a bribe xd

I'm doing a little better with Stimpacks, but I still only ever have just barely enough to get by. I find myself using lots of beds in the field and picking up every bit of food I can find. But as rare as Stimpacks are, Radaway is even rarer. There's a part I was at with an irradiated underground area (with ghouls, naturally) where I'm looking for this damn key. It was only 1 rad per second, but that doesn't take too long to add up when the entire area is like that. Not to mention the 10mm pistol I'd found there was jamming up and I didn't have anything else suitable for the close quarters because there wasn't time to sneak efficiently. So I just had to bail out and I'll come back another time.

Also, lol, there's a Super Mutant Radio Broadcast near the... Black Mountains? Is that what they were called? They're near the middle of the map. It's pretty funny. Okay, now to take my shower so I can play more...

100 caps to get your rads removed in Goodsprings isn't too bad. Also when you get to that quest with the solar plant keep in mind your window to calibrate the mirrors are from 9am to 3pm. I got everything set up and was just about to calibrate the mirrors when I found out it was 4:30 PM. JUST MISSED IT! D:

Anyone who does this quest should save when you get to the mainframe and initiate the Archimedes weapon. It's really evil but a lot of fun to watch.

"Service rifle is a wood-stocked early-model AR"

It can be yours...

That's a damn nice-looking gun, actually. Rock River sells something similar, though.

What's the purpose of the bar behind the mag release? I've seen that on high-end ARs.

It's at the same angle one's finger would be at to actuate the mag release. Maybe it's a physical indicator to tell your finger it doesn't need to do any farther to release the mag.

.
nope, those are non rotating hammer and trigger pins installed.

it's not special really for the gun, but if you take your trigger group out for constant tweaking or cleaning or just moving the pins around a lot the pins will start to creep out the sides during normal use of the weapon, so they make the special pins and the little bars they screw into on each side so they hold on to each other and dont move out of place

I accidentally found Benny already (well, I say already though I've been playing almost 20 hours now) and I don't want to get through the storyline too fast... But I just keep stumbling upon places that end up leading me in the direction of the main story.

EDIT: I decided to save on the Vegas Strip before quitting and have a little fun assassinating people. I got about five people from various places with my suppressed Varmint Rifle before the security robots finally got interested in doing something about it. They started tossing grenades and I blasted away with my M37 until they killed me. It was just to screw around.

Also, found a guy that reminds me of the "personal company suck-up" from Family Guy, when the cigarette company buy's the toy plant Peter works at. And added four quests and I think five map markers in one conversation. xd

I hit it big on the roulette table. After some 5 to 10 minutes I made 5,000 caps off of it which is pretty good because before that my caps never got above 1,400. Then I went on a long walk to the winter lodge and got jumped by a bunch of bugs that ******** me up. There wasn't any place for me to sleep so I had to use my stimpacks. I went from 27 down to 5. D: Fortunately I was able to buy 37 more stimpacks when I got to the lodge then I spent another 1500 on ammo from gun runners so I blew half my winnings already.

Yeah, those are the Cazadors I mentioned. I went up there as well. And got a Trail Carbine in .44 to take over for my Cowboy Repeater. It's a really good rifle. Also ventured into Black Mountain. Vault 34 I explored last night and picked up a lot of weapons there. Managed to get to about 5000 caps today and found some Reinforced Combat Armor, but I spent most of my haul on that Trail Carbine. Along with that Combat Armor, I took an... I think TCW/### (I don't remember the numbers) energy weapon that looks like the Gauss Rifle of Operation Anchorage with a different color scheme. It used 4 MF cells at a time and requires a reload after every shot, but is basically a very powerful energy sniper rifle. I can't really use it since I haven't put much of anything toward Energy Weapons skill and theres a lot of scope sway. But it's quite nice.

Yeah the cazadors were tougher than I expected. I should have taken Boon with me on the trail. I just finished all my work for the Brotherhood in Hidden Valley. A lot of them are carrying Gauss rifles. I killed one to see if anything was different. The Gauss rifle in NV takes 5 MF cells as opposed to just 1 in Anchorage. Right now my weapon skills suck. Everything has needed work so I've been dumping into science, lockpick, medicine, and all that crap. Guns is somewhere in the 60s, Explosives is around 50, and I haven't even touched energy weapons yet and I'm already at level 16. I want to use the hunting rifle, but I gave my only one to Boon since he's a better shot than I am. xd It's kinda lame I can pop half a mag from the service rifle to try and kill a fiend and I will miss every shot then he caps them in 2 hits.

I haven't even gotten into the Hidden Valley yet. I mean I got there (cool atmosphere!), but I couldn't enter any of the bunkers because my lockpick wasn't high enough. In FO3 I got my lockpick skill really high because there was s**t to unlock everywhere, but there's a lot less in Vegas. Now I've been working on it and can open Hard locks. So I'll go back to the valley tomorrow and try another bunker.

Apparently that Gauss-style rifle was the YCS/186 and is a special version of the standard Scoped Gauss Rifle.

There are 4 bunkers. Only one is inhabited. The other 3 locked doors just have rubble behind them. A funny thought occurred to me though. If I were wounded and dying I would want to stand behind that door then die leaning up against it. The next poor b*****d who comes through the area and unlocks the door gets my corps dropping on them. xd

Anyway with the one that does have the brotherhood there is a chance they might turn hostile if you pick the lock. I'm not sure. There are also 3 dead patrols you can stumble upon in the wasteland. Any of them has a password that will let them let you in. A little advice you will want your speech up if you don't want to gain infamy with the NCR or whatever they're called.

So roulette likes me. Last night I made 30,000 caps and got kicked out of 2 casinos for it. biggrin

Also: Armas did you get your combat armor from Gun Runners? The Brotherhood sold me the reinforced combat armor MKII for about half the price Gun Runners charged.

I don't make much on roulette because I stick to first, second, or third dozen and the payout's only, what, 5:1? I guess I could just save when I come in and make it to where I can't lose, but I'm too lazy.

No, I got my combat armor off some idiot Mercenaries that thought they could take Boone and I out. You know that road that leads to the Boomers, in the northwest quadrant? Go west from there, hugging the mountains to the north and you should stumble upon their camp. That's where the YCS is. Just don't let them use it on you.

My speech level is, I think, 11. Yeah, I wanted my skills in sneak and guns because I do sniper/ninja s**t, but I regret not putting more into it speech. With barter I just wear the merchant clothes and get ripped off and deal with it.

The dozens pay out 2 to 1. You can also bet on a strip of 6 numbers if you put the bet on the corner of 2 numbers that's right next to a dozen box. That pays out 5 to 1.

Boone is awesome. He usually kills more than I do. I can go through half a mag in the service rifle and not hit anything meanwhile Boon is next to me with the hunting rifle and he kills 3 enemies.
