[PRP] The secrets of religion

She smiled encouragingly, waiting until the youngster put it all together in his mind. "That's right. The eldest are the ones who typically take over, so you should be fine to enter the priesthood if you wish." Pausing as she could tell he had something else on his mind, she waited for him to ask his question.

It turned out to be a good one and she considered her answer for a moment. "Well... every lion has something they are better at than everything else, or several things, in which case they can choose what they wish to do as a job. But say, if a lion is good at smelling, he would be a hunter,or if he has a good memory, then he could be a scribe. It is difficult to be completely without skills as there is a place in the pride for everyone." She smiled gently. "Now. some lions don't know what they want to be till they are all grown up, and that's fine. You can only decide when you know what you want. In the mean time, many choose to be hunters until they work out if they want to specialise in anything else." She gave him a soft smile, hoping she hadn't confused him too badly.

Msrah would have to think this over for a while, but he liked the way she answered his questions. Some adults would brush him off or talk to him as if he was a baby. This priestess talked to him as if he was just as important as any other member of the pride, and he liked that.

"I think..." he said, "I think I need to think about this... But it's good that I can be a priest if I want to. Can I visit you again some other day?"

He did need to mull this over, and he didn't want to bother the nice priestess too much. But it would be great to be able to talk to her again.

Had she known his thoughts she would have been pleased, since she always tried to speak clearly to the younger pride members, but didn't believe in treating them like they were any less important than an older one. After all, how could they learn if they weren't given all the information they needed?

Smiling warmly at his words she nodded. "Of course, and it would be a pleasure to speak to you again, Msrah. Just ask for Mwana, and I will come see you." Her expression was gentle, and she truly did hope he visited her again. She had few friends in the pride, being so new to it, and those she did have were mostly other priests.

Msrah nodded, happy that he would be welcome back again. And now when he knew a priestess it'd feel less weird to come here too. He felt at home with the hunters since they were his dad and his dad's friends so it wasn't weird to visit them, and he had no trouble hanging out with other youngsters, but some of the other adults in the pride were harder to approach.

"Bye Mwana," he said and smiled happily to his new friend.

She smiled again, lifting a paw to wiggle her toes at him in farewell. "Good bye Msrah, I'll look forward to your next visit." Smiling warmly she watched him walk away before carefully gathering her 'tray' of fronds and resuming her small pilgrimage to honor her goddess, content with her place in the world, and in this pride.
