John Foxton
I've been intending to go there for a while, but never got to it.

1. Is it any good?
2. Do I have to go broke for it to be a pleasant game?

I play it and never had to spend any real money on it. You can join contests, and build, get a job and such to make money on there to buy stuff. Plus there is a lot of freebies so you will do fine. :] Takes awhile to get used to the keys and such, but once you get the hang of it its easier than you think haa.

I use to be a member but 1) the people who run it know diddly squat about coding so it's frustrating for a person who was taught in a proper classroom to monkey around with the Linden system. 2) it's laggy as all Hell. I have a pretty good PC and I still can't walk around a sparsely populated area without being stuck at around 8-12 fps. 3) It's very NOT friendly for new users. The tutorials leave you with a "what the hell" feeling as they throw so much information at you at once, and then seem to leave out the things that would be really nice to know, such as navigating the stupid world. XP

Over all I think Second Life is great for people who don't have a life to begin with, but it's not really great for something that's just in passing. I'd take an IM program over SL any day.

I was in sl for a while. Some drama came up in both rl and sl. Then I left.

As far as the lag goes. Sl isn't run by a game engine as it has to recreate the backgrounds each time you go through a sim. The way sl runs (I've heard) is that the sim is drawn from the background then up to you.
The less the draw distence, the less the sim is created.

Most Lindens are stupid, some are not and are very nice. Torley just wants a job in the music industry.

You can spend rl money if you really want to. I chose to for the fun of it.
You will need linden money for uploads tho.

You could get a job by striping, escourt ser. djing (my fave).

That would make sense since the background of a place always seems to load before my actual character mesh. It makes travelling a royal pain in the a**. XP

True, I shouldn't have judged all by the most. I don't doubt one or two admins are probably decent people but the ones I've dealt with (and who built the systems I need to make Lindens) were pretty fail.

lol, a nice girl I found took me under her wing and made me her stripper/whore apprentice. I was reeaally bad at it though. It's hard acting that kind of thing when you have no experience/attraction to the customer. ^^;

People on sl are assholes too. Maybe even more so cause the internets anonymity tends to do that to people.

Secondlife is alright. I've been off and on with it for about 6 years now. I like to reset once in a while and start with a new account though razz Rather meet new people than get stuck with others that don't do anything.

But ya, I would recommend trying it if you haven't before. It's a great way to get started with 3D modeling and texturing.

Just wondering... any of you ever heard of the fencing game in SL called En Garde?
