The black powder ones had a tendency to explode into the shooter's forearm.

That's a really good reason not to like it...

why not just make a rifle with an internal cylinder?

or at least a cylinder jacket/cover.

and have it be a top break with auto eject....

that way you can have a revolving rifle without any additional worries and can be held forward of the cylinder on both sides.
