" You've done well, for one your age... " He finally, grudgingly, complimented the younger lioness as he regained his breath easily, taking the time to stalk a path around the girl. " That you landed a hit on me at all is... impressive. " He admitted. Were it anyone else at all, they would not be receiving such compliments. Or advice.

" But you are too slow to attack. You must steel yourself, Adala! " He snapped with a low growl, covering the distance between them with a few quick steps suddenly to try and slam her back to the sand with a heavy paw once she'd regained her feet. He could tell the girl was at her limit. He couldn't push more more tonight without doing serious damage... And he truly had no desire to cause her any lasting damage...

No matter how she troubled his thoughts.

Adala was still deeply offended that Kotu was doing this, attacknig her, and it didn't seem he was going to stop anytime soon. He'd already made his point, so why was he still pressing her? There was a small, spiteful part of her that wanted to 'quit,' because it wasn't a real fight and it didn't matter, but a combination of pride and who it was kept her on her feet.

At least until he slammed her down again. She yowled her displeasure as she tried to struggle up.

He could see the questions in her eyes, but he had no answers for her. He could only barely understand his motives himself. And he wasn't about to go into the details of them with her. Even if he gained her spite, her hate.. As long as she had the power to defend herself against their enemies, then that was fine with him. She was the only one that couldn't fall in the coming battles...

His movements were a little slower as he stalked in again for another attack while she was on the ground, unsure that he would actually be committing one. If she was too badly hurt from the last few, he would end the fight. But he had to be closer to check her. Slowly he moved around to the girl's front where he could see her face, frowning deeply.

Getting closer was a mistake. Adala was angry, and she knew that pride or not, she wouldn't be able to hold out much longer, so she took what was probably her last chance to lash out. She'd laid still until he got close enough, then whipped to her feet and onto him with her last reserves of energy. He'd almost certainly be able to shake her off with a minimum of effort, but at least she'd go out with a roar.

A snarl of pain escaped him at the feel of claws sinking in and staying in his flesh as Adala suddenly sprung up upon him. He hadn't been expecting the attack and he slumped slightly under her weight a moment, stunned. An enraged roar escaped him after a moment though, and he thrashed his body in an attempt to shake her off. This method worsened the pain, dragging her claws. He was quick to abandon the idea.

Instead, he twisted his body to fall hard to the ground, effectively slamming Adala back down into it between the sand, and his own heavy body. The second her claws loosened, he quickly pulled himself off of the girl, jumping to his paws, and peering down to her with a hint of worry.

Her successful attack brought a few fleeting moments of elation, of serves you right, but it was inevitable that it couldn't last. She was tired, she was hurt - although probably not permanently - and while she hung on gamely, he found an even more effective way of getting her off than shaking. Adala was on the ground again in short order, slammed down with Kotu's greater weight on top of her.

When he jumped up and checked on her - if he was worried about her, why had he beaten her up? - she didn't move, just glared at him and wheezed, "I hate you."

Not forever and ever, but right this moment.

He continued to watch her worriedly a moment, before determining she wasn't too badly hurt, just exhausted and scraped up. Her words brought another frown to his lips, but he didn't take them to heart as he crouched down, hauling the female up across his back. She was in no condition to continue patrolling tonight. " I will return you home and send someone out to cover your duty tonight. " He spoke in a surprisingly soft tone.

" Though it may have angered you, you still fought well. I enjoyed the fight. " He complimented, carrying her back to the heart of their territory. " You'll be the strongest female in the Qyrhyeshti one day, Adala... "
