A small lizard, burrowed away in a nice hole, relaxing for the day, had been awoken by the vibrations and movement that was the gathering of many lion around his little home. How rude! Now awake with annoyance, the lizard rush out of his burrow to see what was going on around him. For a small lizard like him, getting enough water to sustain ones self was not as difficult, as small plants and flowers could be used as supplements for water, so he had no real idea of the drought that the pride was currently facing.
Quickly, he shrank back down into his hole, leaving only his head above ground, so that he could see all that was going on. There were way too many lions for his liking, and he wasn't going to risk getting eaten, especially by lions that were on display here. Wondering what they were gathering for and what all the fuss was about, the little lizard decided to stay put and watch, thinking that maybe he may get some entertainment out of watching the goings on.

He was out on his own away from the actual water seekers. But his search was the same. Thoughtfully juve made his way through the sands with a frown. How was it that all their water was gone? Fionntan didn't understand how this whole desert could just soak all of the water up like this. It just seemed impossible that there wasn't at least one spot hiding water. So he had made his way away from the rest to go looking on his own. Maybe he could be the one to do it - to find water to help the others.
At the moment it had even become more important than his training to be a strong soldier. Fionntan shook his head. He didn't like this. Why did they need water? But his dry mouth knew the answer and the cub sighed as his the sand at his paws gave off a cloud of dust as he moved again. It felt like he had been at this for hours and still there was nothing. It was really aggravating. Suddenly he looked over at the group. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to go over there and try to listen to their discussions? He sighed.
It wasn't like he was having any luck finding anything after all.

Kosuke had to hand it to his half-sister. She was a persistent lion. Of course, like any brother, he showed concern, rising to his paws to walk over. "Indeed digging's been done... And I think you've done TOO much digging." He walked around her, eyebrows up. "If digging's getting us nowhere... Maybe we should start considering a rain dance." It was, at least, something. It might not actually bring RAIN, but they could then say they tried EVERYTHING.
Tuli let out a slight huff, then huddled into his mother, vanishing against her coat. White eyes looked down at everyone... He rather liked this vantage point. What he didn't like, though, more than the angry lady, was the lady with the bloodied paws. From the sounds of it, digging she had gone, in search of water. And the signs weren't good. As he blinked, he remembered the markless white lady's words about possibly leaving. He decided he liked that even less. And things only seemed to get worse...
As Rowtag watched the white lioness approach, he could see... Not all was right. "I don't think she's coming about the water..." He scampered slightly forward, ears up, before his ears dropped back down. "Lack of water doesn't make someone afraid like that!" He looked back and up at Veru, as if the ill lion would have some magic answer.

A drought...
Perhaps Finar-Si was finally showing her discontent with the new traditions of the pride. Perhaps she had simply abandoned them all together, leaving them to whither and die in their homeland. Either way, they had brought on themselves. Or so Ali Baba thought. With little else to do but wait about for the water-seekers to return with some news or look after his father, Ali had taken the chance to see the situation for himself. Kosuke and a handful of his other relations had already gone on ahead. With Mwali gone and Sinbad behaving outside of himself, Ali had taken the silent role of leading his direct family. Those that remained anyway, a handful had deserted, had been disowned, or had been born huria. Good riddance to them anyway. All of them.
He moved at a brisk but easy pace. There'd be no spending unnecessary energy. Afteral, in such a time the pride was weak. A nameless, faceless enemy could come tearing over the dunes at any moment and the pride would be vulnerable.
But then again- they just might deserve it.
Born and raised within the dethroned royal line, Ali had been raised with the traditional mindset of his forebears though his thoughts were heavily guarded and his actions were nothing but compliant to the pride's new traditions. Perhaps not this generation or the next, but surely one day Finar-Si would smile on their line again...and the ways that had brought them this curse would die in the sand.
"Ah Kosuke~", He chimed in, padding in silently behind his littermate. "A band of cubs at your back? My, my, how we've fallen. And a dance too? I have to see this."

As Ute approached she could feel the tension already. Another fight would probably break out. Now was not the time; she felt. She spotted several family members, Fia her aunt. She went straight toward her. She had never felt exceptionally close to her aunts or uncles, but for some reason felt they would be the best to tell. She didn't want to have to talk to her grand parents about it.
"Aunt Fia!" She called as she neared, hurrying up her pace. She began to run almost, her gait showing a slight limp; her paw pads were on fire. Perhaps from reflection of the sun on the sands. "Aunt Fia..." She panted as she got within nice ear shot. "Aunt... Fia." She stopped and hung her head; panting.
She then lifted her head and quickly spoke. "My mothers gone missing!"

Veru lowered his head. Concern was not something common to his carefree voice- but for a brief moment, it lingered. One of the rarer times that his illness showed through. "No, no it does not," he said to Rowtag, stepping out a bit from the circle of lions. Ute was approaching faster now, with a look on her face that was foreign to the rest of theirs. Exhaustion was typical. Anger, also typical. This was something else entirely. The lioness seemed to be searching for someone- and found it in Fia. Veru moved aside as Ute stormed past.
And then the news. Ea was still fussing with Naar's injured paws. Ute's alarm was not doing well for the medic's tense nerves. By the time she looked up, she was practically snarling. "Missing?" she snapped. "What do you mean, she's missing...!"
"I'm sure she's just out looking," Veru offered. Behind him, Vlam nodded. "Like the rest of us? It's still early. Maybe she's just late."
"Zii doesn't get lost that easily," Ea retorted. She gave Naar a stony glare, before moving towards Ute. Unfortunately, the female was stamping around so quickly that she couldn't access them. "And your feet too! What is this! Do you people not even remember your first lessons as apprentices?! We might not as well bother! Why don't we just run around on little hob legged-"
Veru cut in. A dangerous maneuver. "How long has she been gone?"
----
Up above, another creature was watching the events unfold. It was also watching a particularly tasty looking lizard, crawling about the rocks below. Water was not just a concern of the lions, after all! But he had an idea that that little lizard could make him a meal of it for the afternoon.
The bird waited until a lull in the crowd. And then, he dove!
It was a perfect strike. In seconds, he'd feel the lizard between his talons! But at the last moment, one of the lions changed position. Mwako'Damu blocked the bird's sight! With a flurry of feathers, he broke his dive, and took back to the sky.
As he rounded about, he kept his eye squarely upon the one who had stopped him. He wasn't about to forget this infraction!

He did not feel at ease in the least bit, all of this was weighing heavy on his heart. On the hearts of all his brethren, he was sure. He wished that his sister was here though, surely the closest of his litter mates. The one he could rely on most not to leave him, as his mother had done when they were born and as their father had done only a few moons past. Was she out searching for water, a job a lot of the pride had taken up? Thinking of other options? Brooding? It was all possible. His ears twitched, trying to take in as much of the conversations going on around him as he could.
The pride members were so intense in their search that they were willing to neglect their own health, just to find the precious substance of life. It was saddening and heartening at the same time. They offered their safety for the better good of the pride, it seemed to say to Canicus.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he heard the first ill news that did not focus on the water. "It starts." He said slowly, offering the words to Kasi though he wasn't so sure why. If the lions began to go missing... it meant death in the desert, surely. If not that, than something much worse.

Hearing the news of the missing mother, Kasi's heart clenched and she unconsciously scanned the crowd for Jyotika, but could not spot her mother. Surely, she was safe somewhere, Kasi excused firmly and refused to panic just because one female had gone missing. She felt sympathy for the daughter though, who was quite obviously distraught. This was not good. Bad news upon the bad news of the drought. Things had to get better, eventually, didn't they?
Kasi glanced towards Canicus when he spoke, surprised to hear him speak. Not that he was unfriendly, no, just that he'd been silent up until that point and she half expected him to stay silent the entire time. She nodded at his words, but forced down her doubt.
"Someone will find her, surely," she said, mostly to Canicus. "We are all wandering so far to look for water, surely one of us will find her. " Her words were more optimistic than she felt. Being out in the desert in prime conditions was hard enough, let alone the desert in drought.

Mwako'Damu was trying to take in all the information that was passing. Digging wasn't working, perhaps a dance, and someone was missing? Mwako'Damu looked to his paw and let loose the tiny round stone he had found, had it really been with the water, if so, from where, or had some bird or other creature some and dropped it upon the sand as a trick?
As he was going to open his mouth to speak, a shadow fell from the sky above his head as he moved, and then darted upards again.
What the-?
He glanced towards the sky, then towards the others.
"A dance, I'm not sure will help, but digging isn't working, and I fear if others travel in search for water alone, others will go missing as well," he said looking to the pale white lioness.
"Where had your mother gone? To look for water, or for something else?"
Had she been a hunter, water seeker, guard?
He needed to help, should they send a search party?

At least it appeared that Armada would behave. Fia sat, looped her tail about her, and turned her bi-coloured eyes to her twin. The bad news wasn’t welcome, but neither was it a surprise. They could search all they wanted but if there was nothing to find it was a futile attempt. Beside her, Vesta hunkered down with dismay and Fia rolled her eyes, giving her new colleague a shove. “Stop sulking.” “Sorry.” Fia’s eyes tracked the limping form of Naar as she moved to join them and gave a snort of amusement at Ea’s fussing. Whatever anyone said about Ea, they could not say that she didn’t take her job seriously. However, even more amusing was the shock on Naar’s face. She likely hadn’t expected to draw any attention and there she was, with Ea lecturing her about hurting herself. The orange-red female gaped, her mouth working soundlessly as she tried to defend herself. Luckily for her, the twins’ niece had arrived on scene to steal the spotlight. And, as if to hide the evidence of her work, she tucked her forepaws tightly in against her chest. “Useful…” She mumbled, mainly to herself rather than to return any words thrown her way. Naar had never considered herself a useful creature but digging…digging she could do. Scowling, she turned her head away and allowed herself to wallow in her own thoughts. Fia, meanwhile, had turned to greet her niece, equally affected by the look on the white female’s face. She rose, automatically, up onto her paws, leaving Vesta alone as she moved forwards to meet Ute. “Do you know which direction she may have headed?” Fia added to the ream of questions being thrown in the young lioness’ direction. “Some of us can go and look for her. I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation.” She did not sound particularly worried at the moment, despite Ute’s somewhat frantic air. After all, Zii knew the lands and she wasn’t the most reckless cat that Fia had ever come across. She was bound to turn up eventually – whether by herself or by the use of a search party. “Maybe we should talk to some of the guards. They might have seen something.”

Or maybe she wouldn't behave!
"Is this really the time to go mounting some search?" Armada said flatly. "From what I remember, Zii was looking like she was wasting away. If she's not strong enough to survive in the desert, I don't see why we should be tossing her a rope. These are hard times. We might as well let the desert help us manage the situation some."
Ea growled, the sound of it popping in ferocity. "Shut your mouth, Armada! That's the regents child you're talking about. Surely you owe our parents some respect!"
Armada crossed her paws and leaned back on her shoulders. "Out of respect," she clicked. "I won't try and stop you if you all run off like children to rescue some lioness whose only going to come back and drink more of your water. I'd say that counts for something."
Ea turned from the red cat, not wanting to start another quarrel with her. "Well," she growled. "Better to waste the effort looking for Zii then arguing about this again. Nothing has been decided. That means we're still a pride, and we look out for each other."
The wild-eyed cat looked towards the rest of those gathered. "Well. Are you going to help, or are you going to sit around like her?"
As the group moved about, Veru leaned towards Vlam and whomever else was nearby. "Well, with friends like this..." he trailed off.

The little lizard was paying no attention the the bird that had nearly had him for dinner. No, instead he was intent on watching the discussion between the lions. It was getting quite heated, and the little scaly beast was enjoying it. However, he decided, that his little hole was not the best spot to see all the action. A new vantage point was needed! But where? Tiny eyes darted around for a better spot to both bask in the sun and to listen and watch what was going on with the lions.
Aha! His beady eyes had found a nice bit of sand that jutted out, just below eye level of the lions, but far enough so that he might not be noticed so easily. The perfect spot! With quick feet, he darted from his hole and across the golden landscape, up onto his new found perfect spot to watch the goings on.

Canicus' ears flickered back just slightly as he watched the liones 'chat' with each other. The tension in the air lately had been poor at best, any second any one could and would snap at someone else. He looked to the female he was seated next to and nodded. "It's not a matter of finding her." He stated, as though in agreement. Luckily he had the sense not to morbidly add that it was a matter of if she turned up dead or alive.
His tail flicked as they were posed a question and he frowned slightly. They searched for water, they searched for lions. Both were missing and Canicus thought they'd hardly find the lioness in good condition. The desert was cruel on it's best days, and lately it had been beyond cruel. Well, it looks as though we can do two things at once." Canicus stated before moving to his paws, reading himself to travel across the desert again. They would look for the lost mother, they would look for water. It was all the same, really. His body was already ten degrees hotter just thinking of all of the walking. But, he would for his pride.

"Well, a rain dance would at least mean we've tried it all..." He glanced over at the white lioness. "Zii shouldn't be hard to find... A white lion around here doesn't exactly blend in, and in this case... It's a very good thing." He meant nothing against white lions - His mother figure was a white lion, and therefore his 'sister' was also white in coat. Which was why she wasn't with him now. One cub was enough to watch.
Tuli himself listened, before noticing... Something... White eyes watched for a bit, before he carefully wiggled his way down. Usually in a situation like this, he'd stick to his mother, but there was something... Dropping to the sand and crawling along it, he watched the lizard intently, eyes wide and his small tongue sticking out. It wasn't water, but it would at least nourish him a bit. That or he could present it to his mother.
Rowtag huffed at Armada, sticking his tongue out at her. As a shadow passed over some of them, his eyes turned to the bird overhead. "Hey... What about the birds?" He took a few steps, watching the sky with narrow eyes. "They can see a lot, right? Why not have some fly high and help us?" He looked over his shoulder. "Extra eyes that can do far more searching than down here, and they can see a lot more area and already gotta be able to spot a lizard or somethin' else small amid all the dunes..."

Ute was almost shaking all of a sudden. She sat down, her ears flat and her head lowered slightly. "My mother is a guard. She takes her job very seriously. I think... I think when she was on duty she went off in search of water. She hasn't been in the right mind lately. She won't drink. She makes me and my father drink before her." She said shaking her head. "She would say "You are my only child and my only mate' and would refuse."
She looked a bit skeptical at a few comments. "My mother does not get lost. She doesn't wander. And she especially doesn't stay out and not return. She is always on time. She's hours late." She looked at her Aunt Fia. "She was doing her usual rounds. I have checked them, but did not wander far from them. I think she may not be far. I didn't want to go on my own..." She stood up and took a few steps. "I at least wanted to let everyone know I was going off looking..." She added quietly.
She began to walk towards the direction she came from. "I asked her familiar and she said my mother left her behind for her safety. If Smeagol had been with her it would be easier. I am so worried." She began to walk faster, ignoring her painful feet.
