"That must be it. Not enough glory for the cooking and the cub-making," Vol agreed.
He yawned and glanced upward, using the sun to check how much longer his watch would last. As usual, there was cloud cover, but for someone who had grown up in the pride that wasn't a hindrance to telling the time from the position of the sun. He didn't have too much more of his watch to do, and he wondered if Vol would stay for the remainder of it. He wouldn't mind either way. It was nice to have company, but he'd certainly be fine on his own for the last bit.
"Though I don't think any amount of songs or stories would convince me that I want to give up raiding and take up crafting or something like that. But I'm not a woman either. They're more naturally inclined to that sort of thing. It's just the way they're made."
He shook his head. He didn't see why so many lions were so keen on going against nature. It was the masculine prerogative to fight and conquer, and defend to a certain extent. It was the feminine job to tend to everything else. That made the sexes' roles fair and mostly equal, though the menfolk had the more dangerous and exciting and glorious job. But womenfolk were needed too. Otherwise men would have no time for their important tasks.
