Torik Ishikawa Lieutenant of Squad 9
Torik followed his Captain into the room after Sayuri, when he smelt the food he was so happy that Shan was offering to share with everyone. After the spar with Shan, Torik was pretty exhausted and hungry. He walked past Sayuri and gave her a friendly smile as he walked to the right side of the desk and sat down, crossing is legs as he sat on the floor. "You have already master manifesting your zanpaktou spirit into this world, that's quite impressive. You may be ready for Bankai training soon, and at third seat. Very impressive." Torik wasn't able to manifest his zanpaktou's spirit until he became a Lieutenant, so naturally he was impressed. He was curious as to what her zanpaktou could do and how well of a fighter she was. Well if her fighting skills are as good as her beauty then she might be able to kick my a**. Torik thought to himself as he couldn't help but notice she was cute, he really liked the beautiful but dangerous kind.

((If not for my general uncaring for post pictures, I might commission someone to draw my character just to feel in the loop XD))
Shan sat patiently as she explained, and then nodded. "Before we begin, how about some introductions?" He locked his fingers together and placed his balled fist on the table, smiling warmly at the two. "I am Captain Shan Hokori. The youngest and most recent member of the Hokori Clan. I've been Captain of the Ninth Division for a short while, but managed to change everything about this division. As you may or may not know, I've been without ranked seats for a long time, until recently. This is the first time I've opened up the seats for occupation, so technically under me you are the first lieutenant and first third seat I have had." He chuckled a little, and opened one of the boxes closest to him. "Hm. Looks tasty enough." He drew a pair of ornamental chopsticks from his desk and sampled whatever it was he had picked up, and chewed on it curiously. "Not bad."
"Anyhow. I was given the seat without question because of Tenchikaibyaku, my zanpaku-to." He nodded down a little towards his back, where the sword had been strapped across his hip. "They decided I had the power to subdue all who I was ordered to, and the tact not to destroy city blocks while I did it." He took another bite. "That and the last captain was just a little corrupt and needed some time to gather his thoughts in the Maggot's Nest." He sighed, and waved the thought away with his chopsticks. "Blah, negativity. These are really quite exquisite, Sayuri." He was about to sample another, when he paused. "Torik, why not spill out your heart and soul to us? I want to know more about my lieutenant and I'm sure that Sayuri wouldn't mind it either."

Torik Ishikawa Lieutenant of Squad 9
Torik listened to his Captain, though his attention drifted from time to time over to Sayuri. He found her beauty stunning and would rather learn more about her then tell them about him. As he was taking a bit of the delicious food he began to choke slightly when Shan told him to spill out his heart and soul. He assumed that his Captain saw that Torik had interest in Sayuri and wanted him to just tell her, but when Shan said that he wanted to know more about him he was relieved. I really need to start paying a little more attention... He thought to himself as he cleared his throat and took another bite. "Well I am, of course, Lieutenant Torik Ishikawa. I grew up in Rukongai, the district that was famous for its street fights among thugs. I was one of them for a while, but I only fought out of self-defense. Then while I was being jumped, a shinigami saved me and then disappeared. To this day I still have no idea who it was, but I wasn't going to let his efforts be in vein. I bettered myself and became a shinigami." He took his zanpaktou from his left side and laid it on his lap for them to see. "And this is my zanpaktou, Kaze Senshu. She may not be the strongest zanpaktou, but she gets the job done. I couldn't ask for a better partner. Torik smiled at his zanpaktou and placed it back at his left side. "As for how I became Lieutenant, I'm not really sure, we'll have to ask you that Captain Hokori. Why did you choose me to be your Lieutenant?" He asked his Captain with growing curiosity.

Shan looked up at his Lieutenant, a piece of food placed into his mouth with the chopsticks. He chewed on his food rather slowly, watching Torik for a bit before he swallowed and set the sticks down in front of him properly. He had listened idly to the story, he had heard it before and read it in his file. But the last question did take him by surprise a little. Most people were simply satisfied with having the position, they didn't look a gift horse in the mouth and ask why. He pat his mouth dry with a napkin, procured from somewhere hidden and he promptly returned it to that place.
"Torik Ishikawa, my reasons are my own. As are my reasons for taking on the wonderful Sayuri Yamazaki, here. Perhaps when the time is right I will tell you exactly why I did so, but until then don't let questions such as that bother you. They are not that terribly important, anyways."

Torik Ishikawa Lieutenant of Squad 9
Torik stopped eating for a moment and looked over to his Captain, he listened as he spoke. His eyes flickered to Sayuri for a moment and then back to his Captain. What could his reason be? For the two of us? I don't know about her, but there isn't really anything special about me. Hmmm. He thought to himself as he took another bite of his food and smiled at his Captain. "Well, that'd good enough for me. Torik said as he took another bite and looked over to Sayuri. "This is really good, but are your fighting skills as good as your cooking skills or you good looks?" He realized quickly what he had said and started to turn red. Damn, did I say that out loud. Torik thought to himself as he just sat there as waited for a response, hoping she would ignore that last part.

Shan might have been amused if he found this kind of stuff amusing. He wondered if he would have been able to cut the emotional tension with his zanpaku-to. He doubted it. Taking one of the candies with his chopsticks, he watched the two from his side of the desk, his dark brown eyes flicking between his seats. Once he swallowed, he spoke, and let everyone know the true meaning of the word 'blunt', and that Shan was that word almost to perfection.
"Let me get one thing out of the way, not because I've seen anything yet but because I need to voice such concerns out loud; before we hear Sayuri's story I believe it's only right to let you all know that relationships are allowed within the squad, as I have to, simply because I cannot discriminate something like that. But for both your sakes I hope you realize that those kinds of feelings are more of a liability than anything else. And, heavens forbid, if the relationship goes south it just makes everything awkward and I do hate awkward situations." He rose from his sitting position, and walked over to a small cabinet against the wall.
"And to answer your comment, Miss Yamazaki, there are definitive ways to judge both of those things." He opened the doors and procured a few drinks. None of them were alcoholic and ranged from melon soda to root beer. He had no idea what people enjoyed so he just brought a little of everything. "Your cooking far surpasses the cuisine I was treated to in my family home. And your fighting played a role in your placement in my squad, if that means anything to you. I suppose it might not, but I assume Torik knows more about that and understands its significance." He placed the cold drinks on the table, and from a stack of hot rocks procured a kettle of hot tea. He sat down and poured the drink in a handmade clay cup and sipped it delicately.
"Now, enough about that. Miss Yamazaki, tell us about yourself. I am sure Torik would love to hear more about you." It sounded like Shan simply meant it as a notion of curiosity from his Lieutenant, but given his previous comment who knew? He silenced himself with another sip of the tea, and made it his job to pour whatever drinks the others wanted while he listened.

Sayuri Yamazaki Aura Radiantis
Although it seemed to be impossible for Sayuri's face to turn redder, it did. She went from dark red to a shade which could have been compared to red-purple when she heard her captain talking about relationships. Not even the stinging handprint on Awaihiko's arm could keep him quiet this time. The spirit was practically shaking with mirth untill he couldn't keep it in any longer. Awaihiko's voice was was smooth to hear, elegant and mature. He gently rocked Sayuri's shoulder as he laughed, something which, strangly, seemed to help Sayuri calm down enough to speak. She didn't really want to speak about her life. Alot of things had happened to her, both in her life and in the Soul Society which she didn't want to bring up. Sayuri sighed lightly, just enough to let the two men know that she was thinking about her past. "Well, sirs, I was brought to the Soul Society years back by my adoptive brother, Aoi Yamazaki, I stayed with my 'family' for about a year or so, I don't really know how long, and then I left to go search around for my Father. He died when I was young and I wanted to speak with him. I eventually found him and we started heading back to my adoptive family's home when we were attacked my a hollow. My father didn't make it, but Aoi saved me and brought me back home..." Sayuri stopped talking for a moment, but soon started again. "After we returned home Aoi sent a letter to the Academy, requesting me to be accepted because my reiatsu kept attracting hollows when I left the major cities around the Gates. I was accepted and I did well and now.... I'm here now!"

Shan smiled thinly, a faint recognition of the plight of her situation. In this line of work, there was often sorrow attached to the joy of becoming a shinigami. It was inevitable. Shan's story perhaps was just as depressing but he left out those bits for the sake of posterity. No one wants to hear the sad story of their captain; they have to be that shining example of what a shinigami should be. He never faulted a person for the telling, but it was very rarely that he would tell anyone the full extent of his life. They always got the generalized version. It pegged him as a spoiled noble brat half the time, and many had called him that time and time again. But it gave him a certain level of understanding to other people's plight. And that understanding, both of the situation and the hesitation to speak, showed in his face as he listened, idly sipping his hot tea as she spoke. A thought came to him as she finished. Did her adopted brother send her to the Soul Society for her own good, or for his? He would never speak such a thought out loud, but it was a wonder he had.
"That is the sacrifice of the shinigami." He sighed, setting the warm liquid down on his desk with the gentle clack of clay on wood. "We must give our lives to ensure that others may have that chance to truly live." It was a true statement enough; all of them would most likely not see their families but for the impossibly short breaks between service and duty. And, heaven's forbid, if there were an attack on the Seireitei itself, most often the people in the Rukongai were the first to suffer. A harsh and unfortunate truth.
"And I ask the both of you to make one more sacrifice. I know that life as a shinigami is already hard enough on most people, especially new recruits." He looked at his third seat quickly as he spoke, but flicked his gaze over to Torik. "That is why I expect that those of us with experience and the desire to see others in our squad succeed help each other out. For what I ask is no easy thing. We all know why we are here. Why you decided to choose this Squad, and what this Squad was meant to do. It means not being afraid of taking down a friend. Detaining a brother. Fighting a father." He spoke almost as if from experience, and his voice aged him for a second before he continued. "You both sacrificed a great many things when you joined the Academy, when you left your lives behind. All I ask is that you remember what those sacrifices mean, and hold them close to your heart. There will come a time when I am sure your strength, your will, your very soul will come into question. That very power held deep inside must be resolute. It must not falter. Otherwise your sacrifices will have been in vain."
He let that last sentence stretch out, and when he was finished he took another sip of his tea, and forcefully slurped it. He coughed a little, and pulled back the cup a small amount to inspect the offending container. "Oh. It appears I finished this cup." He set it down and poured another, and proceeded as if the event had never happened. "Aah, much better."

Shan had just finished speaking when a knock came at his office door. "Excuse me." He sighed, and stood from his desk and left to answer it. He walked over to the door, and slid it open. The conversation was muffled to either of their ears, but towards the end their Captain's voice was raised in what almost sounded like surprise. Soon enough he returned to the office, with a look of pure shock on his face. "I..." He tried to speak, but stopped and shook his head. "They've..." He laughed dryly, and without humor. "By order of the Central 46 I am to vacate my position as your captain." He wiped a hand over his mouth, and took a deep breath. "And take up my new role as the Captain-Commander." He didn't know what to do, really. He had always aspired to the position but...actually gaining the position? It was beyond his abilities of reason. Slowly, he took off his haori, and folded it gently, setting it on his desk. But it wasn't his desk anymore. He had just grown to enjoy this position, and had grown to like his subordinates. To leave them now almost seemed cruel. But this was their decision and he would not defy the will of the Seireitei.
"And as such all Captains and Lieutenants are required to meet in the Meeting Chambers to mark the occasion. So Torik, make your way to the Chambers whenever you are prepared to do so. Sayuri...it was a pleasure to meet you and I cannot wait to see you grow. At least this is not a goodbye, in a sense." He chuckled, and donned his flowery poncho once more, pulling the hood up to cover his face. He was never very good at goodbyes, so he said none. He simply nodded at the duo, and left. The messenger told him that his personal affects would be acquired and moved during the meeting, so he did not have to do anything. So he put nothing back, and simply left. Pausing on the bridge in the middle of his...old...office...Shan let the smooth, beautiful wood drag against his hand as he walked.
Once outside, he took in a deep breath of air. This was the end of simple captaincy. He was no longer concerned with just his division; he had to learn to be concerned with it all. The decision had been made, he just hoped that he could meet their expectations and fill the position correctly. But the insanity of it all was that they had chosen him at all. He didn't think he was very special. And yet here he was, the Sotaichou. Deemed the one strong enough to unite all the Seireitei and defend it if need be. For every journey there is a first step. And Shan finally took his, and began moving towards the Meeting Chambers and his new role.

Torik Ishikawa Captain of Squad 9 (For now, Lieutenant)
Torik smiled as he heard this news, he was truly happy for his old Captain. He felt that Shan had truly deserved it. As the new Captain Commander left for the Meeting Chambers, Torik stood up and looked over to Sayuri. " Well seeing as we no longer have a Captain, I will be the acting leader of this Squad. I'm sorry to have to go so soon after hearing this news, but all Captains and Lieutenants must go to the Meeting Chambers now. Please make yourself at home in my office or anywhere in the Squad. I should be back shortly." He explained to her as he walked out the door, closing it behind himself. Now with Shan gone, Torik was now responsible for Squad Nine until they found a new leader. I wonder who the new Captain will be. He thought to himself as he walked toward the Meeting Chambers in excitement.
