There was no excuse. West watched Hel launch herself into the sky, he watched her fly higher and higher, and he watched her turn, diving toward him with a speed that should have made him move. He didn't.

Her spear caught him in the torso, slicing a deep cut into his side. He hissed in pain, turning a glare up at the ghoul as he tried and failed to push her weapon away. He didn't return her attack, not because he didn't want to, but because that really hurt.

All that taunting was seriously coming back to haunt him.

Hel narrowed her eyes as West glared at her, but she was stilling grinning. One would think she wouldn’t taunt…but let’s be honest, this was Hel. She couldn’t help herself!

“Come on, friend!” She sneered, “Don’t tell me you’re done already!” The reaper planted the blade of her spear into the ground, and spun around quickly on the pole arm, delivering a kick right to the Wrath demon’s gut.

He was still hurting, but that didn't mean he couldn't appreciate a good taunt. Luckily this time he saw Hel's attack coming, so even though the impact her foot made with his stomach was only a few inches from his bleeding wound, he was able to recover quickly.

"Not before you... friend," he countered. Why did she keep calling him that?

West debated trying to kick her. He also thought about rising into the air and performing a dive like she had, even if it would have surely been less impressive. Finally he settled on a punch. Again. He really needed to get some new material. His fist shot out, striking her between her neck and shoulder.

“Ha! This will never be over the—“

And this is why we don’t taunt Wrath demons. Would Hel learn her lesson? Nope!

The boil had caught her as she was making another spin, so the next kick she wanted to deliver wasn’t nearly as powerful as she would have liked, but she clipped him! Hel released the pole of her spear, leaping back a bit as she rubbed the spot between her neck and shoulder. “…Heh…” She held out her hand, dismissing her spear and summoning it back again, pointing it threateningly at West once more. She tilted her head, telling West to come at me, bro.

Reapers, man. West knew he needed practice with all sorts of fighting, but that didn't mean he didn't wish Hel's weapon would go dull and shrink by half at the moment. He shrugged off her kick and darted closer, flirting with the dangerous line between having a hole in his chest and not, then crouched low and tried to sweep his leg toward her. It was a clumsy move, but not as ineffective as he thought it would be. Yay, learning!

Hel pulled her spear back much like batter up to the plate, and looked about ready to score herself a home run as West closed the distance between them.

Though a clumsy move, it did its job!

Perhaps putting all her weight on one foot as she pulled her weapon back wasn’t the smartest idea either. With all that weight on one foot, as West knocked it out from underneath her, there was only one way to go! Down. Hel landed on the ground with an ‘OOF’, her sweet swing missing the Wrath demon by a mile.

The true proof that West's studying was paying off came next, when he used the confusion resulting from his successful hit to begin manifesting his FEAR. For all the times and all the ways this stupid ability had turned on him, he called upon it now without hesitation, his hands glowing much as they had when he'd backed that earlier punch with FEAR.

He didn't move, which was less impressive as far as strategy went, still standing close to Hel as a wave of clarity sharpened his focus.

Hel rolled back up to her feet and crouched, staring down the Wrath demon.

She could feel the shift of fear, and noted that the boil seemed to be…concentrating? Well, that just wouldn’t do! Ever one to try and be a thorn in someone’s side, Hel clenched her weapon firmly and focused on channeling her fear as well, and she pointed a finger at the Wrath demon, unleashing it.

Damage: FEAR: -I Choose You – Hel selects an opponent and for a short time the target feels fatigued, altering their battle performance (The Mind)

Success! / changes your opponent's damage modifier from -6 to -7 (so from -4 to -5 I think?) / affects your opponent's next turn (Hel trolols West for 1 turn)

As it turned out, Hel's attempt to hit West with her FEAR did more than break his concentration, it stopped him from attacking altogether. He watched the valkyrie extend her finger toward him, and felt the clarity that had sharpened his focus so intensely drop away with an alarming quickness. His thoughts were so scattered and unfocused that for a a handful of moments he could think of nothing but chocolate cake. Mmm.

The boil shook his head and frowned, taking a few steps back as his mind began to clear again. What had just happened?

Status: Round 1 of 3 for The Eye affected by The Mind and dice aren't really mattering here because of the hilarious roll. DELICIOUS I SAY XD

Hel was more than pleased to see her spell work. It seemed she bought herself a bit of time free of powered up attacks! Just a bit…

The reaper was grinning widely as she twirled her spear and pointed it at the Wrath demon. She lunged towards him then, her spear out and ready to lance him once more. This battle was so close…

West's eyes narrowed to angry slits as Hel struck him with her stupid spear. Things were starting to approach that dicey stage where all his protections felt like they could slip away at any moment. It was not a feeling he enjoyed.

The boil struck out again, his ability giving him the clarity to actually punch her where it hurt, despite his own injuries.

WHAM.

Oh yeah, that hurt.

Hel’s brows were furrowed deeply, as they were really pushing towards the end of this battle now. She was determined not to lose, oh so determined, and still clung onto the belief that she could, even with West in his power up-ed state! Though she wasn’t exactly in the best of positions as she stumbled back, and only managed to clip West a tiny bit with her spear.

He stumbled slightly, expecting her to strike much harder than she actually did. Her spear-clipping was countered with a mere glancing punch of his own.

West stepped back to compose himself, features going blank for a moment as his FEAR wore off. Well, that had been interesting.

Now just seemed to be a time of glancing hits.

Hel rebounded, lunging forward, but once again, only managed to clip the Wrath demon. They were really cutting it close…if only she could land a really good blow! Hel wanted to win this bad.

Glancing blows, indeed. West jabbed at the ghoul, but barely hit her once again.

"This's stupid," he muttered, circling around her. It would have been nice if she'd possessed the decency to just drop the stick and let him win. Right? Yeah. Totally.
