Oh right. He had forgotten that bit, hadn't he? Well, he'd learned most of the "polite conversation" stuff, so what was Eione glaring at him about? Then again, the dark brown lion had made considerably less effort about acquiring manners than his sister, so perhaps the glare was warranted. Not like he'd ever tell her that.
"Leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, and all sorts of smaller creatures too," Lutum confirmed for the newcomer. "And no, I'm a Duke. Which means I do a bit here and there and such." Actually, it meant he had no real assigned duties and was free to pretty much do as he pleased. He rather suspected that Nawiri hoped he would find a calling the way Eione had. He doubted that would ever happen though.

She looked pleased when Dabula accepted her invitation and took a seat with them. When he asked about non-lions, she glanced around as if wondering if someone had happened by to make him wonder that.. though surely he had noticed it in the last little while regardless. It could be a tricky question to bring up.
Lutum did a reasonable job answering so she only nodded- until Dabula dared to ask about her brother's profession. Eione could barely contain a laugh.
"I'm a Duchess, too," she said matter-of-factly, glancing from her friend to her brother and continuing in a light tone, "Lutum just doesn't know what he wants to be when he grows up."
It was risky to make fun of him like that, she knew.

He gave a sage nod. It sounded like a right interesting, mixed group if nothing else. It would be interesting living side by side with those he had considered as rivals out in rogue lands, though. Still, they must have found a good balance to live as they did.
"I did notice quite a few little critters running about." He replied, referring to anything smaller than a lion, of course.
And then to Eione: "That makes two of us then." And he had to admit it did worry him about. "What exactly does a sick lion do around here for a living? Do we just...wander about all day or...or try and hunt? Because I'm warning you now, my hunting skills are definitely not 'all that'. I wouldn't have ever gotten into this situation in the first place if they were." He gave a short laugh that turned into a cough, forcing him to pause.

The dark brown lion made a face at his sister. Not that he was really annoyed with her choice of phrasing, but she certainly made him sound immature! Oh well, if Eione couldn't poke fun at him, who could? Lutum settled for poking her in the flank as a "thanks for that". It did make him feel better when Dabula admitted to not knowing what he wanted to do with his life either. Then again,it was sounding to him like the other lion hadn't expected to be spending the rest of his life in the Kitwana'antara.
"There's several ranks that don't do a lot of roaming outside the pride lands," he reassured the other male. "Bards, Nannies, Apothecaries and Healers...and if you have a real calling for the Goddess of Pestilence, Priests." This last was said with the tiniest bit of scorn, but not much. It was never wise to insult a Goddess, Lutum just felt that a lot of the Priests were a bit pretentious.

Eione was surprisingly pleased to realize what direction the conversation took after she mentioned Lutum's indecision. She had been curious about what Dabulamanzi would do with his time once he was sent off, he was probably on an unspoken deadline to make a decision by now. He was thinking about it, though, that was a start.
"Hmm, no," she said, "You don't really strike me as a priest, Dab. Or a bard." She bit back a question about the strange bard that had been to visit Dabula while he was recovering. They had never found out for sure if she was a bard or if the healers were indeed keeping her away while he was being watched.. and perhaps by now the joke had worn thin. Perhaps that was all that made her think he wasn't suited to be a bard, his time outside the pride might have provided fodder for good storytelling for all she knew.
"Are you good with cubs?" she asked, thinking through the other options Lutum presented, "Or interested in learning about healing?"

As Lutum listed off the possibilities, Dabula tried to find some connection with any of them. Even one. But what did he know about healing or herbs or cubs or...singing? Pretty much nothing. Well except that he knew that cubs were like little, dumb versions of full-grown lions. His ear gave a surprised sort of twitch at the mention of a Goddess of Pestilence. He'd have thought a pride stricken by disease might turn to the God of Healing or good fortune or some such element. Pestilence seemed...somehow strange.
He gave a short sigh of relief when Eione dismissed two of the given options. He wasn't an especially religious sort and the only bard he had met in the lands so far had seemed a bit crazy.
Shifting awkwardly, he tried not to look so out of his element. "Dealing with cubs sounds more difficult than dealing with sick lions."
Maybe.
"I don't know. I suppose it couldn't hurt to try a few things and see. I might have some hidden talent I wasn't aware of having." He made a face that suggested he didn't think that would be the case.

The green-maned lion had to laugh as the other male voiced his concern about cubs. It was, in many ways, an accurate fear. And on another level it just sounded ridiculous.
"It depends on the cubs," he told Dabula. "But I'm sure you'll find something." Lutum was rapidly getting the feeling that he was not really needed here anymore. Eione was perking up and Dabula, well, it seemed like the two of them had met before and were comfortable with each other.
He, for all his bluster and bravado, did not know this other lion. He knew that Eione seemed to like him, which was good, but that didn't stop Lutum from being rather nervous about the whole situation. The darker brown lion was tensed, ready to get up and leave at a moment's notice.

Though she couldn't hide her surprise entirely, Eione managed not to make a face when Dabula said cubs were harder than sick lions. Though Kua immediately came to mind, she managed not to mention that sick cubs were also something you had to deal with on occasion.. neither of them seemed the type to handle that kind of commentary easily.
"Well, give everything a try and you might find out," she said, putting on a smile. It wasn't easy to help if he wasn't going to offer any information, but perhaps trying a bit of everything really was the best he could do to find out.

(sorry for the delay, guys!)
He hoped he found something to do. Perhaps being busy would keep his mind off of the sickness...keep him going that little bit longer. The thought of cubs being sick had not yet even crossed the lion's mind. But now that he was out and about and not skulking in his den, he would soon learn this and much, much more.
"Perhaps." He dared to suggest. "I could help you out one day...with the whole healing thing?" Dabula hoped she wouldn't mind but he did like to spend time with her and this would give him just the excuse he needed. "I promise I'll try not to get in the way...too much." He laughed, gave another little cough and paused to wait for his breathing to return to normal.
His eyes skimmed back to Lutum and he wondered whether he might dare say that he'd made another friend. "In any case...I think I've taken up too much of your time already." He stretched slowly and looked prepared to leave them to their conversation again. He had interrupted, after all.

Lutum was feeling increasingly awkward. The only thing he could add to the conversation was a nod here and there of agreement. He felt as if there was an entire undercurrent that he wasn't really grasping, as it was between his sister and the other lion. He also got the feeling that now wasnt' really the time to try and figure it out.
"Time is," Lutum said shortly, also getting to his feet. "And I think it's time I was elsewhere." Not that he was expected somewhere, but he was feeling increasingly like an extra leg, an interloper.
"I will see you later, Eione," he nodded to his sister, "and you around, Dabulamanzi."
With that, Lutum took himself off, leaving the two alone together.

"Sure!"
Her enthusiasm returned when he asked if he could try helping her out with healing some time, she loved her job and she would love to help him test it out. She was still learning but he would be too. She could probably give a less intimidating view of what it was like to be a new healer.
"I'd be happy to take you with me sometime," she said brightly-- but then suddenly he was trying to leave. She barely had time to argue before Lutum interrupted, said his goodbyes and left. So she ended up sitting there dumbly for a few seconds before looking to Dabula.
"So," she murmured, "That was my brother."

And when Lutum left, Dabulamanzi promptly say back down, smiling back across at Eione. Her good mood could be strangely contagious and despite everything when he was with her the smiles came easier. He even felt better in himself. He was also extremely glad that she wouldn't mind him tagging along with her for a bit whilst she was out doing her job. He wasn't sure whether healing was for him, exactly...but perhaps it might be interesting if not something he wanted to try his paw at.
And, in response to her declaration of her sibling, he gave a laugh - which this time was not interrupted by coughing - and nodded. "He's different from what I would have expected. But I like him."
One could not choose their siblings, after all.
