Having a sheep fursona this comment is entirely offensive and i am angry now. >:L

Though i am a gruesome mutant that goes against all humane aspects of life... its for other reasons than being a sheep man hybrid! TYVM!

I apologize.
I figured you'd be more interested that someone actually knew something about your chosen fursona.
I meant no offense.

lol im just being goofy...

that... ummm... i dont know how true that is... seeing as the anatomy of an animals genitals doesnt change the fact that genetic material is incompatable. Its reallly hard to get a donkey and a horse to make a mule... let alone get two mammals that arent even in the same family to produce any young.... at all...

Infact i think the soviets tried to grow chimp humans... but never did manage to create a single hybrid embryo in the lab...

I'm unsure where I heard the information so it may be untrue but I've always believed it.

I've actually got this personal hope that science advances in the future will allow for cross genetics between animals and humans.
I've always thought of animals being an ideal creation by whatever god you believe in. Their evolution, adaptation and sheer brilliance in whatever they're faced with is amazing. Ofcourse, this may not apply with all animals but each is very unique and interesting.
However... humans only kill, steal and do wrong to one another. Any cooperation is often brief or false and the primal dominance within humans causes displays of violent and destructive nature but... this is only speaking of the bad things.

Humans are animals... animals are no different beyond they dont have the tools and faculties to commit the same actions in so large a scale. the real evil is the ambivalence of the universe my friend. nature itself is the ultimate cruelty.

Nothing exists to stop that which we think is wrong... and nothing raises up the good. Not but what we stop ourselves and what we raise up on our own. And that in fact is what separates us from most other animals. The ability to choose our own morality, for better or worse. whatever better or worse may mean. To choose a direction and a purpose within the abyss of nature's cruel ambivalence to our tasks.

Humans, animals? I'd like to think otherwise.
But maybe you're right, maybe humans are advanced animals as opposed to your basic eat, sleep, reproduce, etc. etc. animal.
Though... it doesn't matter in the end, all is unexpected and no one can predict or establish anything for certain because we live in an ever-changing world.
In 1 year, some talking animal, perhaps a sheep could be born changing everything we ever thought we knew. It's, evolution.

Conversations like these are always interesting.Allow me to put a therian twist on things.

I myself an not a furry,so I don't have a fursona, but I can understand why others would choose deep symbolic traits to make their fursona as "their true selves".Being a therian I was born the way I am,I did not choose my animal, what she looks like,or how she is,but she is me.I have found that sometimes furries don't realize they are therians and they "choose"the animal they've always felt like, only later to find that it wasn't an invented personality at all,but the animal inside since birth.

... what's a Therian? sweatdrop

Short for therianthrope a therian is somebody who feels a connection with an animal. Not necessarily an animal from this plane either, although most accepted therians tend to be animals such as wolves or big cats there are some who believe themselves to be unicorns or other mythical creatures.
The connection the person feels with the animal can range from feeling they have been born into the wrong body (similar to those with gender issues) to simply a belief that they were an animal in a past life and still retain some memories or behaviours of said animal.
Therians do not physically become the animal they have a connection with, although some do describe "mental shifts" where they feel their whole thought process becomes that of the animals.
Therians are not to be confused with the Furry fandom who have a completely different relationship with animals.....

It appears there are many variations of this subject entirely...
I myself can relate to the Therian idea as at times I've kinda felt that way.

At any rate whether it's Therian personality or a fursona, I'm feelin' wolf.
Black and white or dark grey and white. Whichever.
I've always really felt that way, I love beef jerky, I bite people randomly, I growl... during you know "times" , I've always loved sort of fighting with big dogs on all fours occasionally holding them down and biting them in the neck as a sign of dominance.
It's kind of odd to think about it but that's how I am, no joke.
Maybe I'm just a weird person?

I can related to the Therian as well. There are many times I just feel more wolf like. It's a feeling I can't describe at all, but I want to be an animal my self. I wish I could wag a real tail, and a real pair of ears.

I remember wishing to be an animal when I was younger.
Now, my wishes focus more towards hoping cat-girls exist in the future so I can marry one. <3

We can already mix genetic material from different animal species. We make mice with human DNA all the time for medical purposes.

But you won't be seeing anything like a "fur" anytime soon.

determining a fursona is different for everyone, but some people have a spiritual connection with a specific animal

Um... Hi. My first post here. Yay.

My friend and I did a paper on furries here in Texas. Well, he did the paper, I went to the convention with him cause, well, I'm a furry too.

From what we have gathered, fursonas come to people at different times and different places. In some of the interviews, some people were like "Hey, I'm big and hairy. I'm a bear," while some people were more deeper about it; like that particular animal had always been apart of their lives.

Me, for example, I've always been picked on, treated differently, and not really liked much growing up in school, and I've always had this weird connections with rats; so one day, it dawned on me, I too am a rat. Most people find it disgusting or creepy, but I love the little dears all the same. My friend is also a rat, its funny.

Your fursona will just come to you one day.

Rat? Wouldn't you be more of a mouse? Although that is interesting.
As I said before I think I'm more inclined to a wolf fursona, particularly a black and white bi-colored wolf.
I've always been more canine like in many different manners and as for the bi-coloration, my moods, my personality changes frequently. I can't be one thing for certain.

having read thru this tpoic, and now finally understanding what a therian is, i guess i could be classified as one.... i act like a house cat all the time.... srsly, anyone even mentions fish and i perk immediately... also, put anything dangling in front of me, and i've got hours of entertainment... i've actually shredded a few tassels in the past....

but at the same time, i do actually have a fursona that's a blue bengal tiger.... i chose the tiger b/c as a child, it was all my cousin would call me... as such i became fascinated with the species and they are my favourite animal.... i also have a secondary character whom i never use, that is an arctic fox.... she actually started out as a little black kitsune with a batman obsession... i thought her up while one day i was making comparisons b/t batman and zorro.... zorro is spanish for fox.... anyways, i've since dropped all zorro connotations in the character, with the exception of race.... but i basically created her so i'd have something else to draw, otherwise i'd forever be changing details on my tiger fur....

You've caught my attention. House cat you say? I find that interesting.
Fursonas seem variable, in both how they are discovered and what they are as well as how they are limited. I feel research into this subject needs to be done.

yep.... down to the domesticated hunter instincts.... and i attract them like flies... got a few outdoor cats in my neighborhood... if we're out and about at the same time, they find me like heat seeking missiles....

here's some more food for thought: my best friend, before we actually became friends, was an Egyptian cheetah... beautiful black coat with gilt spots that took forever to draw but looked v pretty none the less.... she had that fursona for years and she still plays with her every now and then, but a year after we became friends, she created a new fursona that started out as a flying squirrel/fox hybrid and has since become a fennec... she got the idea from some anime, thought it was cute, and built a fursona out of it.... oddly enough, you can tell when you're talking to akira [( the cheetah )] or when you're talking to teito [( the fennec )] even her family addresses her as akira/teito... she has literally become her fursonas in every aspect, psychologically speaking

No way. Rats are awesome. -smiles-

If that be the thing you are connected too, then go for it. ^^
When My friend and I were doing his paper, he came across many different fursonas and different ways of how they came to be.
One girl, an otter, knew she was an otter cause she was always very playful, curious, and loved being in the water.
Another woman, a nurse shark, simply came to that because she was going to school to be a nurse, swam in her spare time, and "liked to bite."
It is just one of those things that makes you connected to it. It can be complex like mine, be shunned like rats are, or simple like the Nurse Shark lady.

For me, my fursona is a character I use to represent myself online and to the furry fandom.
Initially, she started out as what I would like to be. She didn't have the flaws I have physically and personality wise. But, over the years she's evolved and taken on more of my characteristics.

Well, I don't think my connection to my fursona is quite as complex as my fursona itself. Reflecting myself.
I suppose just like everyone else' my fursona will also change and develop further.
