P'leimis watched curiously, then went over to his sister. "It looks like whatever that cheetah's up to... The others are stopping him..." Perhaps they wanted to protect this creature they didn't even know... And amid them was a lion, a rogue as they were. He let out a quiet hum, then glanced around before his eyes fell on a shadow. Morag. He didn't voice a hello, though. Not right away. Perhaps she just wanted to relax... But P'leimis was there for a job, and he soon went back to pacing. If that cheetah made it across the water... He'd be there to greet it and send it back.
As she got closer, Chanda could see that the brown cheetah was simply ITCHING to get across. What a curious animal... She went over with the others, finding a spot to set her stick down before looking at him. "What could possibly be so important for a cheetah in THAT desert, that you would risk your skin to get possibly ENSLAVED?" He was a fascinating creature, of course, and she'd take him home back to the others in a heartbeat if she felt like it. Today, she didn't particularly feel like it. That blue freak of lion nature was enough for her to look at, something scrawny would be too much on top of that.

The brown cheetah was stopped midstep, falling onto the muddy bay as the other rogues prevented him from crossing. He flailed, getting himself quite muddy in the process. One of the feathers in his braid fell loose and onto the shore. "No! Now they've been alerted!"
He seethed, his paws pulsing in the mud before pulling himself back to a seated position. He shook his head at the leopard. "I can't cross anywhere else! This is the direction the herd is going!"
---
Up on the other bank, Kiowaa rose to her feet as soon as P'leimis alerted the group that there was another attempted crossing. She squinted her bright eyes. Yep, it was that strange cheetah again. She shrugged off the small fur cape she wore across her back, and started to wade out into the water.
"Hey!" she shouted. "There some sort of problem over there?" Her words were not entirely welcoming.

Nkera had been content with waiting quietly as he watched the other shore with keen eyes, following the example of the more experienced Firekin. His distaste for all non-lions was probably well-known and the recent run-in with the hyenas hadn’t exactly helped his issues. Still, the white lion had done a good job adjusting to the pride’s customs and while he was pleasantly surprised to find many Firekin with similar viewpoints, others seemed to be more lenient in their dealing with the creatures he so despised. So he held back, forced himself to calm down a tried to take a more peaceful route out of most situations.
His stance had been relaxed at first, his eyes often travelling to Iroh to see how he reacted to things. But when the a particularly annoying brown feline started eyeing the waters so intensely that even the other rogues seemed to be making a move to stop him, Nkera stood from where he’d been sitting, took a few steps forward and sat down again, a hunter’s gaze now fixed on the brown cheetah, his body still as a boulder. He wouldn’t risk moving too close to the shore as he didn’t want to scare away the prey beasts but he was both making a point and getting ready to act if it proved necessary. His ears swiveled in Kiowaa’s direction but his eyes never left his target.
Baise had come to see the prey beasts that were hesitantly gathering around the border but she’d stayed for different reasons. The young huntress apprentice had spent a good amount of time eyeing the twitchy animals with a hungry “one day I will have you” sort of look when the numbers on the other side had begun to increase. She’d been curious to see all the unfamiliar creatures of strange shapes and sizes that had gathered on the other side. One in particular seemed to be starting a commotion and the young lioness waited to see how the brown cheetah would react to Kiowaa’s words, looking fairly amused.

Heiko sighed at the nearly comical fall, shaking his head in hopelessness. "Isn't there a way to... well... intercept them?" the leopard threw out in vain. Of course, he knew the statement was ridiculous. If the cheetah was right, then he doubted there was a better spot then here. Or, at least, it would of been a good spot, if it weren't for the rather fierce lions over yonder... Heiko thought grimly, bending down to pick up the feather as rose eyes trailed over to said group.
They widened suddenly, watching the female lion trek into the water. He stumbled back a step, jaw slack, feather drifting back into the mud. He swung his head to the cheetah. "Now look what you've done." he nearly whined before turning his head back to the red lion. The statement wasn't said in venom or anything; in fact, if any other scenario, without bright, ferocious lions and the great debate of to do or not to do, he probably would of liked the guy. Now, however...
"Um, not a problem, not at all!" Heiko said with a nervous laugh, inching back just a step more. "Just... well, by chance that this was the case, not saying that it is, mind you... how do you take to, well I don't know, guest on that side of the river with you?" Heiko ventured ignorantly, hesitantly.

The older lion watched the happenings with interest, and some amusement in his friendly and warm face. He nodded his head at his fellow pride members, whenever his eyes met theirs, and he flopped his tail in the dust when he saw the rogues along the pridal border getting worked up.
He watched as one tried to make a dash for it, tilting his head in wonder but not looking too perturbed. It was enough to make him stand, his large, thickly furred frame moving with a slow and fluid grace.
"Well now," Iroh said, mostly to himself, as the rambunctious cheetah was waylaid by the other visitors. It was good, to save him from getting himself hurt by reckless action.
Though he was a calm and friendly sort, he would not allow the rules of the pride to be broken, and he would enforce their edicts. He would simply rather not to, and hoped they would not have cause. He was glad the others were there and attempting to dissuade the cheetah.

Hila watched the brown male roll and flail in the muddy banks that they stood on and slowly raised a brow. This one was special, and not in the good way. He wondered if it would be better to simply let him cross, so he could either be washed away or taken care of by the lions.
He looked up as a leopard joined them, and he snorted quietly as he spoke. He seemed a do-goody fellow, and one that didn't want any trouble as one of the lions from the other side called out a bit gruffly.
"No, no trouble," he murmured, flicking his tail as he moved to the water to get a drink. The brown cheetah was a bit too odd for his tastes now. He had spotted the females on the other side, anyway, and he was far more interested in them than anyone on his side that he could see.

"Not entirely well!" Kiowaa responded, her eyes squarely on the group. "Firekin are known for many things, but our hospitality...is not one of them." Although to be fair, it wasn't many who went to the desert seeking friendly faces. The animals of the motoujamii were harsh, and the lions followed suit.
She tossed her head back, looking towards firekin shore and any who'd followed her into the water. "We'd best keep our eyes on them. I get the feeling they're up to something."
As if on cue, the brown cheetah stood up, wiping mud from his face. "You can't intercept them! Ramadi is smarter than that," he scowled. "His herd, its different from the others. If I don't find a way to spring a trap, then I'll never have his hide! I'll never be immortal!"
Kiowaa squinted her eyes. Rogues were getting a little bit crazier, year by year.
arrow But to those watching the rogue side of the river, signs of a herd approaching begin to appear as a dusty cloud in the distance.

He began to follow his sister, brow furrowed as he watched. He wouldn't mention the Hongshan... Though those lions had more or less earned their places within the pride. They may as well have been members born in. His ears flicked as he strained to listen to the cheetah. "Ramadi...?" P'leimis looked over to Kiowaa. "Who's Ramadi?" He'd never heard of any... Ramadi. Apparently, whoever he was, he had a magic pelt that would make the wearer immortal... P'leimis didn't believe much in magic at all, just a silly thing for cubs. Which meant, to him, that this cheetah was insane.
Chanda let out a hm, watching the brown cat, then turned and looked to the horizon. "Okay, and if you can't intercept... Ramadi... How can you hope to catch him in the dunes?" She looked back. "Have YOU ever run on a dune...?" Much less UP a dune. Going down was the easy part, going up was the hard part. She'd seen dunes best dung beetles, and their lives were going up and down the things. What hope did a cheetah have, when his limbs were far too spindly and paws tiny to NOT sink in the shifting sands? "You'd best answer fast, because there's a herd coming a bit NOW..."

The air was full of smells. Familiar ones. Odd ones. Welcome ones, too. In fact, if Kerra didn't know any better, he'd say he was missing out on something interesting - and that just would not do. He was a guard in training. He needed experience! This seemed like as good an opportunity as he was ever going to get.
He arrived just as the herd in question came into sight, his eyes widening in awe. Prey beasts had been few and far between since he could remember. He had been born in the midst of a drought and such bounty as this was something of dreams...
...until it wasn't.
"Have you ever seen anything like it?" He murmured softly as he shouldered up alongside his comrades.

Looking somewhat bored, a young female jackal parted her jaws into a wide yawn and stretched leisurely. Her name was Wakala. And she was a mischief-maker.

Hila looked up from his drink as the lioness called out to them. Not a friendly group? Well, that was fantastic. The cheetah didn't understand why certain animals had to be so rough. There were some gorgeous females over there and hey, he didn't discriminate! There was enough Hila to go around. But he knew how to pick his battles and, as fast as he was, lions had far more stamina and that ground was anything but solid. He'd probably be chopped liver if he so much as sauntered across the river.
No matter. He could still call out from where he was, and move further along to a shallower spot to cross. Hopefully lion-free on the other side.
Hila glanced behind him as one of the lionesses on his side made a comment about an incoming herd. Perhaps this Ramadi was the king of the wildebeest or some such thing. He had never heard it him before, so it was anyone's guess. The brown cheetah was starting to worry him a bit, though, so perhaps it was nothing.
"You know, being immortal probably isn't terribly fun," he pointed out. "Living forever...bah. There's no fun in that. Besides, then some crazy hyena might come after you for your hide, and then where would you be?"

The dark lioness perked as a commotion appeared on the bank of the river, watching as rogues intercepted the cheetah that wanted to cross. He was either stupid, or desperate, to face the firekin guards head on like this. Anyone with any sort of sense would have searched for a less well-guarded place, maybe waiting till the cover of night.
His comment about the herd and being immortal... that was interesting. This herd was special, was it? Well, maybe this would be a good time to practice her original profession, then. As Morag climbed to her paws and shook herself off, she noticed the dust cloud and a smile spread on her face.
"Something is coming!" She shouted across the water, making sure her pridemates were aware of it.

At first, Celosia couldn't help but giggle at the cheetah's ill plight. Then she caught his words about being immortal. Was that a thing? Really? Who wanted to live forever? Then you would have to watch those you love die, over and over again. That would just be sad. Better to have a good death on the field of battle young, than live forever. Best to leave a memory behind than to live a legend.
THen...something was coming...her purple eyes looked, squinting, trying but failing just yet to make it out...

Rain. It was a strange thing. Made the sand hard and packed beneath her paws so that it stuck between her toes instead of sifting away as it had in the driest of seasons not so long ago. Atsila was still trying to decide if she liked it over the arid climate she'd known all of her life. At least the abundance--well abundance in terms of the Motoujamii--of drinking water was a favorable change, though it seemed to be drawing all manner of peculiar creatures to their borders.
Slowly rounding her haunches to sit, the medic-in-training gazed at the fidgeting herdbeasts at the waters edge with wonder. So many in one place, it seemed unfathomable that such numbers could exist all at once. All in one place. Drawing a breath as she repeated the sentiment of other pride members who had arrived before her, Whoa..
Now, the prey animals, she recognized in shape, if only vaguely. They were usually turn to shreds by the time she got her share, but the others--the long slinky cats and the shorter, stockier one were completely unfamiliar to her. They were the oddest lions Atsila had ever seen, that much was for certain, not just in appearance either. A slender brow arching in question at the muddy one who seemed intent to cross.
Sometimes watching the fire-branded lions was an amusing ordeal indeed. For the outsider the herd of roaming beasts was nothing to gawk at, nor was the creeping flow of water that slithered across their lands. Though Machozi had come to know the desert heat far more intimately than he would have liked, he wasn't starved for the wet season as these lions clearly were. Some of them treated it with an altogether foreign sort of response, becoming more aware of it than he had ever been. Given his position in the pride, however, he didn't allow his amusement to take an outward manifestation. Allowing his immense frame to sink into an out of the way position.
The Bonelands ambassador was willing to help where he was able, as a simple figure head who didn't have much purpose beyond counseling the regents in the ways of his people and aiding in the effort to smooth any wrinkles in his home-pride's alliance with these warrior cats, Machozi often felt the strain to prove himself. Diplomacy was an awkward thing to him still, but monitoring a riverbank for intruders, that was something that suited his tastes better. After all his father had been as much brute force as brain and he was--at least in some sense, Matifu's son.

There was not much going on, that was, until the rain came. Nose wetter than usual, paw pads still cracking, the wild dog left the aegis of his burrowed den to investigate what was going on. The weather? Cooler than blazing. He was not really use to that, but at least he was able to breathe fresher air for once. He had hear rumors about the Firekin being alive and restless as ever, but he was always told to stay away from them during the heated days.
So he watched, waiting for anything to show up. Nothing. Thinking that it was safe to cross the borders into the firecats' lands, the dog stepped foot onto it, and knew that someone was watching...How long has it been that the ratel live in these lands already? Ever since his kitting. So just because some large beasts thought that they can run around, looking at strangers like it was no big deal - it was hell for Waliohifadhiwa. Since the climate change, he was constantly being tracked, due to his prints being visible on the desert dirt, even though they were rather small.
He carried a scent that was well, different than the most, or all of the Firekin. To make an acquaintance with one of these creatures might give the lions the view that they should not eat Walio, but what if one was tempted? He shivered, digging a hole for him to scurry into, waiting for the beasts to go to sleep once more.

Something continued to approach in the distance. At first it was foggy, as the large group of animals kicked up sand and dust on their trek through the steppe. Like a slow storm approaching. But in time, more could be made out. A herd of ibex, larger that the Motoujamii had ever seen.
And they were stopping for no one.
As the large herd approached the banks of the river, one of the ibex in particular stood out. A white stag, his large horns practically curled in a perfect arch. Larger than the others, he strode slowly in the middle of the group. All of the others matched his pace like a silent army.
With so many predators in the distance, a few of the herdbeast out front began to make nervous noises. One or two of the males knocked horns together as if to reassure themselves. Alone, they surely would have scattered. But so long as the white stag kept moving, the others did as well.
It seemed they were intent on crossing.
arrow The large herd is, for the moment, moving slowly. They will continue to do so unless something spooks them.
Next five posts, roll a dice 1-20.
Anything a 5 or below will cause the herd to spook, and charge the river.
