"Aua!" Mathias hissed out the exclamation, the sudden pain coming as a surprise and seemingly out of nowhere as something that felt like claws raked against his chest. It was a familiar feeling, reminiscent of fights he'd had with his many brothers, a memory that brought with it a tingling sensation along many of Mathias's scars, most of which were hidden at that moment.

He bared teeth and fang in response to the other boil's growl, a gesture that might have looked more like a feral grin then anything, though the look in his eye meant serious business. The strike was like an open invitation to strike back, and he was more then happy and willing to do so.

Jumping forward with a few rapid beats of his wings, he let out a growl of his own, and struck out with claws a little harder than he had before, intent on actually wounding the other boil now, and holding little regard to his own previous plans towards cautiousness.

The thrill when the other boil bared his teeth in return was more than enough to reassure Jove that fighting had been the right thing to do. Out of all the things living creatures did that he similarly enjoyed, food, sleep, baths... The rush of adrenaline had him caught up in the moment and it was beautiful.

He raised an arm to block the blow again, but not fast enough. The claws raked his cheek briefly before cutting into his arm, and he leapt backwards...

And his leg gave out under him, dumping him on his fluffy-tailed backside. Suddenly being caught up in the moment was not so beautiful, rather, it was ungraceful and undignified. The pup flailed and missed his opportunity to retaliate.

Now Mathias had a choice. Stop, and let the other boil get back to his feet? Possibly even help him by offering him a hand up? Or would he rather just continue on, give in to the moment, and make the ghost boil realize that he wasn't up against some total softy, no matter how fluffy his little bunny tail and luxurious his ears might be.

He opted for the latter. There were times to be gentle, and there were times to be relentless, and if he wanted to be taken seriously, he needed to show how relentless he could be. When the boil fell, he followed him down, aiming to pin him to the ground, claws driving downward. He gritted his teeth, keeping them bared as they had been before, eyes narrowing, and wings beating down towards the ghost boils face in an effort to blind him.

At least they were both small enough that they hadn't had very far to fall.

The impact of hitting the ground was only made worse by the other boil's weight on top of him, and the back of his head struck the ground and momentarily stunned the pup. Despite their comparable size, his opponent clearly outweighed him, and could bring that small weight to bear quite effectively.

Jove shook his head in an attempt to clear his thoughts, but the blow had scrambled them quite thoroughly. The only conclusion he could come to was that he should never let this boil be on top of him. This was a recipe for disaster.

The other boil had yet to make a move, but Mathias simply put it down to being really great at this pinning thing, and was more then ready to go on the offensive in this scenario. The ghost was down, but that didn't mean he was out. Mathias had to take the advantage and continue to strike until the other boil regained his bearings and fought back.

With another growl, he lifted up one set of black claws, still pushing down with the other set to try and keep the ghost boil pinned. He then swiped down, his intent quite vicious, and the look in his eyes brightening at the prospect of victory.

"Yield, and I vill relent!" He proclaimed, even though the last thing he wanted was for this to end so quickly. "......Maybe. " Was tacked on as an afterthought.

Yield and... wait, yield? Was he in that bad a situation? Jove's ears flattened back and he struggled slightly, testing the other boil's grip. Why could he not be one of those ghosts that simply phased through everything? He could have escaped so easily...

But he wouldn't yield. The pup snapped and growled, baring his teeth in defiance. He just needed some more time to pull his thoughts together.

The other boils reaction to the words he had cried out in the heat of the moment was actually....pretty funny. Mathias could feel his concentration begin to shatter as his amusement began to grow, and his baring of teeth began to turn into a toothy smile instead, as the intensity in his gaze began to soften as well. Had he really just yelled that? He gave his head a small shake and then leaned down a little closer towards the other boil, snapping his teeth in front of his face before rolling off of him and springing back to his feet.

"Okay then, as you vish. Back up then!" He called down to him, making a "bring it" gesture with one hand as he waited for the other boil to rise and continue their spar.

Did the other boil just... find it amusing? In the middle of their fighting? Jove's confused expression only lasted for a second. Then it was promptly replaced by irritation. If this boil was trying to be nice, it really wasn't the way to go in a good fight.

The instant he was free of the other boil's grasp he pushed himself up with his ghostly tendrils and lunged, this time not losing himself in the heat of the moment. He could easily keep the weight off his bad leg as long as he remembered it was necessary, and using his tendrils like additional limbs gave him enough force to barrel into the other student. He didn't even have to use his teeth or ghostly claws to inflict damage if he got a strong enough leap!

Well. That was certainly one way to get a reaction! He would have to remember that for in the future, because at that moment, he couldn't help but feel like he might have offended the other boil slightly. And by slightly, it felt like perhaps he had offended him quite a lot. It exactly been his intention to do so. He was really starting to find this other boil quite intriguing, with his biting and snarling. It gave him a certain sense of nostalgia, really. It was a sense of home that he hadn't realized that he was missing until now.

Of course he was going to smile and maybe even laugh a little!

When the other boil threw himself at him he knew that he had made a mistake in letting him up. He should have just left him pinned down on the ground and clawed away at him bit by bit. Now he had a ghost barreling into him, knocking him back, threatening to send him toppling down to the ground instead, though he beat his wings furiously and flailed his arms to try to keep it from happening.

"ACH! Nein!" He was talking more to himself then to Jove, and eventually decided that the best he could do in this situation was just allow himself to fall.

But he was going to make sure the ghost went down with him.

He did what he could, attempting to wrap his arms around the boil if he was able to manage, trying just to dig claws into whatever he could grab ahold of.

Jove felt the claws digging into his back, pulling him down in the most painful way. This boil was like some kind of octopus, pinning him even when he was the one driving them both backwards. And that was saying something, coming from the ghost who could form ectoplasmic tendrils at will. Well, he might as well use this momentum to his advantage...

As they both toppled to the ground, Jove gave the boil a fierce headbutt.

They were both falling towards the floor, with Mathias holding on as tightly as he could and refusing to relinquish his grip. He had time to wonder if this had perhaps been a terrible decision on his own part. He could have tried to shove the other boil away while he'd fallen, could have probably rolled and sprung back up onto his feet if he had. Now he was going to be on the ground, with the ghost on top of him, and rolling them both over to try and gain the upper hand was going to be a lot more difficult.

All of these thoughts were quickly erased the moment a head butt was delivered to his skull. A ringing sensation filled his ears, and his eyes closed tight, his teeth gritting against the pain that blossomed in his forehead. Head butting wasn't exactly uncommon among the antlered wolpertinger kind, but since Mathias's antlers were still nothing more then small, horn like appendages that were only slightly visible above his hair, he had yet to master the move, or find appreciation in it being used against him.

"Sheibenkleister!" He growled in response, as the back of his head smacked against the floor with a crack, his hands slackening their grip, arms falling down to each side.

With his upper lip pulled back from his teeth, he did the only thing he could think of. He ignored the pain and lifted his head up to try and sink his teeth into whatever part of the other boil he could reach.

Winning and pinning the other boil was one thing, but Jove was seriously lacking on the followthrough. Perhaps the headbutt had not been the best idea, but his body was not moving fast enough to scramble away. So when the little monster chomped him on the side of the neck all vampire-style, he was both unsurprised and unimpressed.

Hadn't he used those tricks himself? Keep the opponent close so he could bring his natural weapons to bear? If he lost this match it would be his own damn fault, chasing fights before even healing from his last one...

Mathias had never bitten a ghost before. Would it taste different? Would it taste of anything? Did ghosts even bleed? It didn't really matter. The curiosity that flitted through his mind only lasted for seconds before he drew back, cheeks flushing as though in embarrassment. It was bad form to think of a fellow student in terms of how good they might taste, and the bite was only really payback for what the ghost had paid in kind to him earlier. It was over and done with within moments.

Besides, his head still swum rather dizzily from the head bite, only exacerbated by his sudden movement to bite the other boil. He let it thunk back down to the floor, and began to wiggle and struggle, his hands rising as though to shove the other boil to try and get himself free.

Jove was having a harder time than most students would, trying to pin someone of similar size, with his incredibly light weight pushing him off would be no more challenging than pushing off a newly hatched scareling. So the flailing was getting particularly dangerous for his current position.

He headbutted the boil one more time for good measure.

Again with the headbutting. This time Mathias couldn't even curse, in his native tongue or otherwise. His eye closed, but this time remained closed as he tried to breathe through the dizziness and pain that was spreading from the parts of his head that had met solid impact not once, but twice in very short span of time. The head butt jarred him so that his teeth clenched shut, and even as his head collided with the floor a second time, he shoved up with both of his hands to try and toss the boil off from on top of him.

Note to self: Ghosts have hard heads.
