Pas nearly burst with excitement when the stranger lion said he'd tell his fortune. He waited eagerly and somewhat impatiently while the older male did...whatever it was he had to do as a fortune-teller. If he'd been a canine, he'd have wagged his tail. As it was, the white lion's tail didn't stop moving, a clear reflection of his excitement.

That gradually faded as the other lion begain to speak once more. Pas' grin faded slowly into a frown as he tried to puzzle out what he was told. Seeking something...well, it was a name quest. Grow his mane out, so he'd be all grown up? He wanted to go home, well, duh. That one was totally obvious.

But what was this about it not being the same? And someone not being there? That made no sense at all!

"What do you mean?" he pressed, trying to figure out the cryptic words.

The fortune-teller drooped and his eyes cracked open. That was all he was allowed to see. What it meant was beyond him. It only held meaning for the one he was doing the reading for. His own personal visions held meaning only for him, he couldn't expect anyone else to help him make sense of them.

Looking over to the stranger he bobbed his shoulders. "I suppose that's for you to figure out. I can give you your fortune but it means nothing to me. You'll know the details that I lack."

"But...but it doesn't make sense!" the younger lion protested. Nothing Pas could think of would bring light to the mysterious portions of the fortune. The white lion's open face was screwed up with hard concentration as he thought and still came up with nothing.

"Are you sure that's all?" he asked hopefully. It really couldn't be that vague, right? It was his fortune, not some...random crap!

"It will make sense when it needs to. That seems to be how it works." He turned himself about, then thought better of it for a moment. "... you should head west. Away from the coast. The storm will roll in whether you're here or not... but right now it's a little dangerous to haunt our borders."

He glanced away once more. "I'm sorry I couldn't help you further. Good luck finding what you set out for."

"But when will it make sense?" Pas protested again. He wanted to know now, not on some foggy future day! He did hear the older lion's words about going west, though he wasn't entirely certain what a coast was, having never heard of the ocean as more than a legendary thing that some of the grownups had seen on their name quests. It wasn't something he could conceive of being in his own pilgrimage.

It wasn't an important piece of information to the white lion, not when the older male was so obstinately refusing to help him!

"You can't go yet! You haven't explained my fortune to me!" he insisted.

The lion was an impulse short of throwing a paw into his forehead. He ground his claws into the ground and glanced back. "I'm a fortune teller. My task and talent is in speaking what I see in a vision, not in explaining it. I cannot explain something who's context is known only to the individual."

He looked ahead. "Now get going."

With that, he burst forward, tearing down the coast. It was a little petty, but... by the gods he wasn't about to cause any more trouble for the pride. They were on thin enough ice as it was....and Chi was just starting to settle into her new home.

Pas was still trying to formulate a good reason for the older lion to explain his fortune to him when the lump in question left, heading east. The white lion might not be the smartest feline around, but he did know his east from his west.

He frowned. It was really quite tempting to chase after the other male and demand that the fortune-teller explain what he'd related. But...he was older. And bigger. And, come to think of it, he didn't exactly look like the nicest of guys. Pas had wrestled with his brothers as a kid of course, but he wasn't the best, not by a long shot. And the furrows the older lion had left in the ground...well...they said a lot for what he might be willing to do to the younger one.

Sighing in disappointment, Pas turned, shoulders slumped, and trudged back the way he came, feeling no wiser at all.
