Why did he even bother to ask?
At this point, he didn't know what to say or believe. He wasn't going to deny it. Human were filth, and he had seen first hand how low they could stoop, resorting to killing their own kind just for their own benefit. But despite this, there was still some good, those who put others' needs before their own, who fought not for their own sake but for others. For those they cared for, cherished, loved. And so he would too, but he had no intention of falling here. No, he would not lose to her, not in this way.
He raised the daggers, thankful for the shield they cast as it managed to absorb some of the impact. But if he took more hits like that, he was surely in danger.
Choosing not to answer her, he stepped back, pulling out the roll of bandages he brought and wrapped them around his arms, feeling his shield recharged just a bit. This should buy him a little more time.

And then he went silent, instead backing off. Her head lifted, cocking to once side a moment as she watched. Was he... oh how laughable. "Lamb, you're merely delaying the inevitable." She didn't have a lot to say to him, he was a joke. A prime example of what she had learned to despise them for. Small, weak little things that clung to life, clinging to their existence so they could continue to tarnish the world with it.
Despicable...
And with that she launched herself forward as quickly as she could, dagger out as she quickly swung repeatedly at Jake. They may not have been deep, but enough cuts, even as she'd admitted it earlier, could add up and hurt. She'd show him how hopeless his kind was. One way or another.
"Ready to beg for your pathetic life, yet?" Not that she'd grant it.

He was still up, ready to take a beating. Peculiar really, most humans did start crying, praying to some god who'd never listen. At least she could say these hunters had some dignity, even as he took to the odd motion of lighting the daggers on fight her a bit more evenly.
...they were so pathetic. But even so he wanted to keep his pride in tact. "Then you at least have that to your name." There might have been a small bit of pity, or perhaps kindness in those words. But it was soon lost. "I'll grant you a fitting end, you've earned at least that much, lamb."
But that didn't mean he'd get a free ride. She didn't exactly like the thought of burns, so careful to avoid the daggers in drawing near she swung again with her dagger, working to keep an eye on his movements. He obviously intended to do something with those things, right? But a little fire wouldn't keep her away entirely, even if she didn't fancy it.

Jake was the type who was too stubborn to die, or at least die so easily without putting up SOME sort of fight, even if a little late, and useless.
"It's a pity. Were we not sworn enemies, I'd commend you. You're a formidable foe."
Her attack was swift, but he sensed hesitation, and he took the moment to strike, wishing it had hit deeper, but it had caused some damage, which was better than nothing.

As much as he'd hate to admit it, she was right, and the battle was taking a toll on him. If he stayed much longer, he'd be doing more than just losing that battle.
With her last strike, he pulled back, panting slightly as the shield began to wear thin, and he pulled out a reverse pendant.
"As much as I'd like to continue this, I have no intention of dying here, and as much as I hate to admit it but you win... for now. But you're sadly mistaken if you think we won't fight back. We'll never let you have your way, and we aren't going down without a fight."
With that, he portalled out.

A look of confidence shown on the mare's face as she noted the tired look on her opponents features. Panting for breath? His end would be soon, but he was out of her reach as he reached for something. Another toy? Something else for his weapon? It wouldn't help.
But that wasn't the case.
His words caused her eyes to widen a bit as he held something in his hand, speaking of not dying. Of wishing he could continue it. She raised her dagger, intending to fling it at him to stop it, but it was too late as the thing left her hand with her cry, he was already vanishing back to some safe haven. "COWARD!" He was gone though, no amount of words, screaming, or stabbing at the ground would bring him back.
But the logic of it all didn't quell the anger she felt at losing her prey as she slunk forward, snapping up the dagger from the ground it had landed in. Where only a moment before a cheeky brat had been. "Ch-" She held her tongue, stamping her foot once before turning to stomp her way back home. For the moment she'd dress her wounds, then... she'd be more careful not to let the next slip away. Because they would certainly come.
Humans were foolish that way.
