Dan would find himself tunneling into a strange location, almost empty except for a sour smell in the air. Must just be the cavern being sealed too long. But, the other strange thing would be the lack of lights in the room. It would be impossible to gauge where the next crack might be without a light source.

Entering the path labeled as sealed, the trainer quickly covered his nose to the stench. It reminded him of a Grimer except the purple goop was ten times worse than this. Now, what to do about the pitch black darkness... The trainer got an idea, tossing out his champion for help. As a natural cave dweller, his Garchomp should be able to lead him through safely.

"You think you can help me find a crack in the wall?" he requested of the dragon.

Dan knew he'd be grumpy about it but he didn't have too many options left. He stayed by his side while he searched, not wanting to get separated from him.

The Garchomp would be adept in maneuvering through the dark cave, managing to avoid a few trip wires that were obviously set up for anyone who simply decided to bumble into the cave. What it didn't notice was the trick panel on the floor, which it calmly stepped on top of. A spark would kick up in a dark corner of the room, setting the gas in the air on fire. The approaching wall of flame would hopefully steer Dan to the slowly disappearing exit to a new room or he might have a good round of incineration to deal with.

Stepping over a few wires here and there, they were making good progress through the dark tunnel. They weren't so lucky that a trap ended up being activated. It suddenly got a whole lot easier to see when fire quickly surrounded them. Seeing the only viable exit, he hoped on his Garchomp's back and pointed the way. He took off with great speed, slipping in before the fire could get to them.

Dan would be lucky, as the flames met his fleeing behind just as the Garchomp breached the wall. After he likely dealt with a case of flaming trousers, he would be faced with another Miner. "Hey dude. Time for you to try the mine tunnel hunt again. We skewed the odds in your favor this time. But you gotta fight me to get it. Good luck bro." Drawing out a Pokeball before spinning it on his finger, Dan would find himself faced with a Cranidos. It seemed like there was a theme to these battles.

"Whew! That was a close....What's that smell?"

Dan looked around and then grew wide eyed at seeing fire around his ankles Hoping off the land shark, he quickly patted himself down to extinguish the flames.

"I'm gonna kill this gym leader! Fire isn't even your element you-"

The trainer stopped mid-sentence when he saw the Hiker in the room. He was spouting off the same riot act as the last Hiker and just like the other, threw out a pokemon to battle. This time it was a Cranidos, a rock type pokemon as Dan knew. However, he knew there was a connection it had with Shieldon that he couldn't quite remember. Garchomp quickly stepped up to battle but was quickly returned to his pokeball. He'd get his moment to shine against the gym leader. To deal with Cranidos, Shelgon was sent out instead.

"Alright. First, what happens in this room, stays in this room. Second, Shelgon use Zen Headbutt."

The cocooned dragon blinked, gathering psychic energy in the center of its forhead. It then proceed to charge at the rock pokemon with it.

"Dude, I have seen stuff that would make you flee in terror. This is nothing." The Hiker replied to strange request, looking down to his Cranidos and the purple orb that was chained around its neck. Watching the Shelgon charge forward with a Zen Headbutt, the Hiker nodded to his Cranidos. The small dinosaur would nod in response before charging forward itself with an aura of psychic energy growing around its head. And while the Shelgon did the attack first, the Cranidos' Zen Headbutt would look more powerful and impressive as they aimed to crash together. This could turn out badly for the Shelgon unless it got creative.

Dan was going to assume that meant he wasn't going to blab about his death threat. Not that that was a threat he was going to act upon... Anyway, it seemed Cranidos had an item that was enhancing its power. As Shelgon approached the Zen Headbutt, he figured out a way to boost the power.

"Use Ember to cover yourself" he instructed.

The low flames being breathed out would cover the dragon as he ran, creating a sort of heat bubble around him. The majority of the fire was drawn to the collection of psychic energy on Shelgon's forehead.

The Cranidos would smash into the Shelgon, the two attacks smashing into different parts of each of the Pokemon instead of the head on collision the Hiker had planned on. Hey, the Cranidos had been spooked by the flames and wanted to avoid them. Bouncing away from the shelled...thing, the Hiker gave another order. "Assurance! Lets make this Life Orb work for us!" The Cranidos charged forward again, aiming to smash into the same spot that he had hit previously. Might as well make sure the hit really caused some pain.

The dino veered off course a little at the last second, making the collision a little lackluster. Shelgon stepped back, steam coming off of him thanks to Ember. He didn't appear to be that hurt but it was always hard for Dan to tell. Looking to Cranidos, he got an idea that might work after seeing it get scared so easily.

"Let's see... Shelgon, use Scary Face."

Shelgon's eyes gave off a menacing glare that would project into a larger version via illusion. The steam added to the illusion, making it seem like a demon that stepped out of hell. He wasn't sure if it'd stop the pokemon in its tracks but it was worth a shot.

While the Scary Face managed to divert the Cranidos' aim, the tiny dinosaur scraped by the Shelgon to inflict a minor amount of damage. But the Cranidos would remain in its position behind the Shelgon, unwilling to move. He needed time to recover from that horrifying experience.

Shelgon winced in pain as Cranidos brushed past him, but remained vigilant. With the dino traumatized from their previous actions, Dan wanted to do as much damage as possible while they could.

"Now's our chance! Dragon Claw!"

The shelled reptile turned around and rushed at his opponent, swiping with a glowing paw as he neared.

The Cranidos would offer no more resistance to Dan, as the Dragon Claw took it out without question. "Well then, looks like you get another chance. Left side, you get to experience heavy danger. Continue straight forward from your entrance and you get to see something shiny." The Hiker told Dan, quietly collecting his Pokemon before stretching out across a rock. Apparently, it was nap time? Regardless, it was time for Dan to choose another door.

As he returned Shelgon, Dan was given yet another choice in two very familiar sounding paths. Afterward, the Hiker laid down and went to sleep...

"Wow. Talk about déjà vu. Anyway, shiny or danger. I'll choose shiny I guess..."

That said, he went over to the wall and struck it with the pickaxe. He wondered if the tool was even necessary to get through the brittle rock.

Dan would find himself in a brightly lit room, empty except for a device in the center of the room. As Dan would likely walk forward, a metal grate would slam down to seal the hole that Dan had dug. Looks like he had very little choice today.
