Ro was not unaware that this was a real hunt with a serious purpose, but it was also the first time he had taken part in any sort of group maneuver for real. He had been taught about them and drilled in them since joining the Firekin, but in his past life much of what he had trained to do, martially speaking, had been solitary. Getting to put this new knowledge into use was inexpressibly exciting to him. Even hearing the phrase "fan out" made him grin, because it was novel.
Needless to say, he was quick to obey, moving toward the edge of the hunting party just in time to be hit by the same hot wind and find himself with a smile full of sand. The next few moments were spent maneuvering his tongue around his teeth in an attempt to remove said sand before it could irritate his gums or the inside of his lips and cheeks. He hoped everyone else was too busy being serious to have noticed his dilemma. He was still getting used to sand.

Kai was one amongst the many Firekin who had set out to find this winged lion. He had heard stories about such beings, and how they were referred to as Gods or Goddesses. Why? He wasn't sure. He just grew up hearing odd tales about powerful beings with wings. Whatever the case was he now found himself, with his pride, hunting one of these beasts. He certainly was curious though to find out if the reports had been true. If this was a God...what did it all mean for the Firekin...for him?
Kai happened to hear Hraga's comment. "Do you happen to know what some of the gifts might be? It would probably be best to prepare ourselves with whatever knowledge we can. I'd rather be over prepared for facing...whatever it is, before we find it."
Typical Kai, thinking with his head first. He may have his grandfather's stature and physical strength but he certainly did not use it to the same capacity.
((OOC: Kimmeh, please don't count my posts towards the raffle since I got a boy out of the Nergui RP))

Ka and Kai had heard of what happened, and immediately had been alarmed due to their origins. However, upon hearing details of the fallen, it did not appear to be one they knew of...directly linked to their blood, their lineage. At least, they hoped not for any of that this day.
Kai looked to Ka who had a stern and focused look on his face, he was concerned, just as Ryujin was, but Ryujin has stayed behind just in case..
In case she came looking for them. If one of them stayed behind and steered her away, it would benefit the pride.
But they had to be sure.
They needed to protect their home, their family, the pride.
Ka looked to Kai as they walked side by side, and she nodded at him. Ka looked to the red male, ironically enough, Kai'moto, similar in namesake to his sister, "gifts can vary, from what I heard. Though they were - stories, from when we were young, in a different place," he explained.
Kai's patience would wear thin if he said too much.
Perhaps after this event, they should go speak to the regents.
But calm now, focus. This was their duty today.

Azar'biajn said nothing in response to any of the voices floating out around him. Nothing except giving a grunt of approval at Hraga's suggestion at fanning out. Without so much as a backward glance to see if the others had done as his ex-apprentice had asked, he pressed on, weaving between rocks jutting from the sand and grass like the giant weathered teeth of a giant.
He saw the raven first, circling again, crying out as if searching for a friend. A mate. Azar'bijan felt his chest tighten, his eyes narrowing to track its path...until he realised it was not searching at all.
It was drawing attention.
His eyes snapped down from the sky just as the grasses parted and there, perhaps thirty long paces away, he saw the first of the Nergui come into sight. The corporal's jaw clenched tight, the muscles in his body pulled taut. And then he was roaring, an act of challenge and defiance.
Across the way, Muunokhoi replied the challenge with one of his own, his voice joined by many others.
"Enough talk of gods," Azar spat, his voice full of contempt, "we've come across something far better."
[ exclaim Following this post, the two groups will draw nearer to one another. Feel free to have your characters express anger/uncertainty/taunts at the opposing party, but please be aware that no actual fighting will begin until my next post.]

Kai and Ka continued forward over the dunes and as they moved something came into view in the distance. At first, dark, and a solemn feeling filled them both. But the foreign figures became clear - not a single being from their past. growls emanated from them.
They had done what they could with the last incident, but they had heard stories.
These nergui, these dark figures, they had also taken one of their own that Kai had spoken to often when Ka was off with her brother. An elder historian whose pale daughter had gone far. Huria. But returned just in time for her mother's passing...taken too early by a nergui.
That family's blood lived on, Kai had seen the daughter with black markings on the dunes, hidden away looking out.
Sometimes Kai thought she saw the sun lioness on the sand too.
Ka roared, anger, frustration, strength in his voice. Perhaps, maybe, even a slight bit of rage. How dare they come.
"What shall we do?" Kai questioned, claws unsheathed, eyes narrowed.
They would be ready.

Raubtier was conflicted. Being knocked out, he had missed much of the action during the glory hunt. The chants helped him keep up, despite still being a bit sore. When the chants gave way to uneasy silence he started favoring one of his hind legs again. And now they had stumbled upon their enemy. The hyena roared along with the others. He was far enough back in the horde to make it hard for him to see exactly what lay ahead, but the roars had said it all. He wasn't sure if he should be excited at the prospect of a fight, or worried.

Kasoro blocked out all thoughts of gods and whether or not one had been seen. He'd let the others speculate as they saw fit. There was the matter of his new family on his mind, his mate and pawful of cubs back home. If the Nergui were present he knew he needed to help chase them off for their sake. His thoughts rested on his one son that had inherited...someone's blue. Possibly his mother's, as he remembered she had blue in her main and tail. He'd have to be sent away one day, and the thought of Nergui being around to pick him up terrified the white lion beyond belief.
A roar dragged him from his thoughts and he stared across the plains to the band of lions and hyenas. There they were. He narrowed his eyes but remained silent, saving his breath for later.
Mat snickered softly as she watched Ro battle with the sand. It took some getting used to, but having grown up in the desert she knew the ins and outs of the clouds of dust that would blow over from time to time. It was best to keep your mouth closed and facing the ground so the sand didn't blow up your nostrils.
The challenge of roars made her spirits soar and she joined in, letting a snarl of her own go, showing her teeth as her muscles coiled. She was ready to fight! She'd never seen a hyena in person before and they were rather funny looking, but she bet they bled just as nicely as a gazelle or zebra. There would be no contest here. Blood was on the wind already, indicating they weren't as fit as they probably hoped they could be.
Krieg heard the Firekin not far off before she saw them, swinging her head to turn her brilliant green gaze on the pack of red lions. Wonderful...just what they needed. They weren't many in number and there were a few that were injured, and she was sure those lions were fit and ready to fight. Still, she cackled softly as the felines exchanged challenges. Bloodlust was her middle name, and the thought of another fight made her fur stand on end in delight. There was no fear in her heart to die, as death only brought glory, but she did know that she'd do her pride more favors alive than dead. She'd be cautious should a fight break out.
Los was in a similar boat as his daughter. He was a bit injured from the fight with the goddess, but that only made him want to taste more blood in his mouth. He wasn't as thoughtful as his daughter, though, so no caution was spared on the male. He snarled and yipped, tail erect and ears forward, pacing back and forth without limping. Come on, his body language said. Bring it. He was ready. He'd yet to meet the Firekin, although he had heard much about them. Perhaps he wouldn't see the light of tomorrow, but that wasn't a concern of his. He wanted to fight!

Urit'alya had spoken little--if at all--during the trek. The lioness had few words to contribute to the conversation, and less still was her interest in the topic of conversation. Gods. Regardless of whether of not such creatures existed mattered little to her. The whimsy of hypothetical gods didn't seem to be much of a factor in this war. Why bother with worrying about it?
No, there were more pressing matters at hand. It was such matters that drew Alya out into joining this particular merry band of pridemates. Nergui. Just the name of the barbaric horde sent a shot down her spine, a mix of trepidation and excitement. A feeling that made her claws press into the sand and her lip curl.
It was this particular feeling that sunk into her bones as the roar ripped from the corporal's maw. She had fanned out as per Hraga's suggestion, but was still not far when Azar had spotted the Nergui. Muscles froze and golden eyes narrowed into a tense and pointed stare. Alya felt her breath release in a slow, methodical motion as her shoulders squared and her head raised in classic Firekin defiance.
They will fall Alya thought, her certainty a child of her pride and anger. We will bathe the sand with their blood for coming here. The lioness echoed the roars of Azar and Ka, bold and ready.

The sight of the Nergui and their challenging roars had Kai joining his Corporal in sound. His bellow joined his other pride mates as he prepared himself for battle. Though the intellectual type, Kai would not let any other lions challenge his beloved pride. Those who did so deserved whatever retribution came their way. After all, he may not enjoy fighting like some of the others, but he was a soldier for a reason.
Green eyes glared down the Nergui as more came into sight. His body became rigid as his muscles tensed in anticipation of the battle that was to happen. Even if all the Nergui ran tail he doubted his pride's band would let them get away so easily. They had caused far too much trouble for them, and revenge was needed. Glancing to Azar'biajn Kai waited with as much patience as needed for the command to attack.

Godlum listened to the warcry with an intense interest, his tail slowly pulsing behind him. Coming to this part of the desert had been of great interest to him- his son was still missing, and Tarak's attempts to liberate him had been futile to say the least. He knew better than to expect to see his son on the battle-lines. But perhaps, by acquiring some of the red lion's blood, he could divine what had become of him.
The strange, awkwardly tall lion waited for the next round of calls to add in his own. It was dry, sharp, and resembled more a bark than it did a roar. With several of his own people at his side, the bone-marked lion moved forward into the sand.
Still no sign of their quarry.

Ro added his voice to the roars of his pridemates. Their combined sound seemed to him as if it was shaking the very air itself. Clearly it was an intimidation tactic and a warning, but it was more than that. Together, in a group and raising his voice in a violent song that promised death and destruction to their enemies, Ro felt energized and eager to do battle.
He did not, however, see any clear indication that their foe was near enough to do much more than hear them, and maybe see them if they squinted. Maybe that was just his vantage point though. He swung his head from side to side slowly, looking around until his gaze fell on the indistinct figures of a mixed bag of species. The sight made his lip curl and he snarled into another threatening roar. No part of his upbringing had led him to find inter-species mingling acceptable.

The two Nergui females who had perhaps not killed the god, but at least shared the last blow between them before backing down were not at all disheartened by the long march home. They all of them had a share in the glory, every one who'd tasted the fur or feathers or blood of the false goddess. That alone would be enough to give their spirits wings to ride home on. Or so they'd both thought. They'd shared little more than a word after the kill - a nod to each other's determination. Of the two, the purple was the only one with any injury, and hers had come in the form of a confusing mental attack, nothing physical. They stamped along with their proud fellows, the green chanting heartily, and for once, the purple for once joining in in her rough, muted way. She took no pride in the Nergui, but the fight HAD been good.
And it was one less god in her father's way.
Of course, the roars echoing out through the deserts might have meant a change in plans.

The Battle Rulebook: 1. Firekin owners – choose your combatant! There is a list of available Nergui further down which includes their name, species and RPer. When you post your combat initiation, be sure to quote your chosen RP partner. 2. You have the option to challenge a free Nergui or join a brother in arms to beat back their target. 3. Be respectful to one another. No fatal injuries without consent. You may either RP attacks with unspecified results to avoid god-moding or, if you prefer, plan out the battle beforehand. 4. If you are currently RPing both Firekin and Nergui in this RP, you may have them fight against one another if you would find it easier. (Example: my Azar’bijan will challenge my warlord, Muunokhoi). 5. If your combatant retreats early you may choose to help a comrade. This goes for both Firekin and Nergui. Quote the RPers you are joining to let them know you are getting involved. 6. Firekin; if you are injured, don’t despair. No one will be left behind. 7. Nergui; when the call for retreat is given, failing to follow this order will result in death. 8. You have approximately two weeks to RP out the fight. This will be extended by a few days if more time is needed. Equally, if the fights wrap up quicker than expected, the RP will be moved on early. Available Nergui: Gren & Brocdkoca - lioness & hyena [Kimaria] (will fight as a pair) Kuimsoem - lioness [Kimaria] Godlum - lion [Mimsey] Kriegerisch - hyena [SilverLutz] Furchtlos - hyena [SilverLutz] Tesak - hyena [mouselet] Raubtier - hyena [Annchen] Daud'r - lioness [ShinosBee] Doxailol - lioness [ShinosBee]
Unavailable Nergui: Muunokhoi - lion [Kimaria]
(let me know if I missed anyone!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kimaria Azar’bijan challenges Muunokhoi It took no time at all for the gap to close between the two groups and by then Azar'bijan was so fired up his temper was radiating like the sun.
A few paces away now, Muunokhoi smirked and squared his stance, balancing the weight evenly on his paws. To look at him was to see a lion already contemplating victory; the light in his eyes fevered and eager. In comparison, Azar’s eyes were stone; cold and fierce. The corporal seemed to be contemplating only vengeance and the lion before him offered just that. The Nergui warlord spoke then, slow and guttural, a word or two ringing familiar though still foreign in its pronunciation. Beside him, the female with the protruding teeth translated; though she was almost as hard to understand. “You want join us?” A pause for the warlord to continue. “Muunokhoi Oma say some look too weak for join Nergui.” “That one,” Azar called out to his brethren; indicating the warlord, “is mine. We take no prisoners today.” And then the red lion was lunging – as good a signal as any that the Firekin should press the attack. Gren side-stepped to avoid getting caught between the males as they clashed, bumping into a young hyena who had appeared at her side, teeth already laid bare.
"We kesrs," the young hyena, Brocdkoca, declared.
"We kesrs," Gren agreed.

When the Nergui came into view, Pele let out a low threatening growl. It rumbled loudly in her throat, eyes narrowed. She suddenly unsheathed her claws.
She had never seen nor encountered any Nergui before, but there were whisperings of them around from her childhood. Everything she had heard made her angry, and now was a time to express such anger.
When her grandfather pressed on to attack, Pele was quick to do the same. Her hindlegs sprung her forward to the closest opponent she could manage, another lioness, her colours drastically different from her own.
She aimed to do exactly as Azar had said, and take no prisoners.

Kasoro wasn't much of a fighter, but when the call to attack came, he knew he wouldn't back down. He had a family and a pride to protect, and there was something odd about this group of Nergui. Something that made the fur on the back of his neck stand up, his vision wavering for a moment. He didn't get many visions and they usually only occurred when someone was about to receive a fatal wound. He froze, not wanting the vision to impede him in any way, and the glimps into the future washed over him. Someone nearby was going to die today...that much was certain. Who, he couldn't tell. The vision was bloody and there were snarls of pain and victory as the red lions surged forward, chasing off the mixed group of hyenas and lions. They would certainly win...but who would die?
The vision cleared and already some had started their attack. He didn't waste any more time: with a victory in sight, he knew he had to help. Teeth bared, he charged forward in a silent assault.ShinosBee Kasoro challenges Doxailol Mat's eyes flicked from one Nergui to the next, taking in their cocky stance and grinning maws. They thought they were all that, hm? Coming here, to their lands - or close enough to their lands to warrant a patrol - and prancing around like that? Ha! Her claws dug into the sand as she launched herself forward, charging after Azar towards a rather ugly female. She was covered in odd jewelry and Mat had a hunch that it would slow her down. Paying no mind to the hyena, she roared as she charged forward, teeth and claws extended towards the feline.Kimaria Mate'moto challenges Gren and, by default, Brocdkoca, although she doesn't realize it at the moment Krieg lifted her head proudly as the two prides faced off, her tail flicking back and forth. The challenge was given and accepted and the large lions moved forward, picking those they wanted to battle. Krieg didn't move, holding her ground, watching to see if any would choose to attack her. If not, she would move to assist one of her Nergui pride mates.Los was in a similar boat, his eyes watching those that charged forward to attack. He gave an excited laugh and moved from the line of Nergui, eager to meet one of these red monsters in battle. Oh, to taste their blood and feel their teeth tear at his hide! It would be a glorious battle indeed, and to follow such a successful hunt was reason enough to be excited.
