All too happy to take the paper that would represent him now, Robert curled back into Mimsy's lap and snuggled into it, flopping before he bit his tongue between his front teeth and began to draw an elaborate and exquisite creature that looked more like a monster made of muscles than a human. This would likely aid in looking less suspicious to anyone who might have seen the scribbles they were adding to the wall, and wonder where they'd come from.

He leaned as far as he could until he could grab a red pen, and then used it to scribble a line down what he considered to be the hair on his picture. Then he flourished it above his head, and handed it to his boney wife and also boilfriend.

"I DID IT!" He exclaimed, wiggling within her lap. "Now you get to choose the threads for us! Hint, red should be one of them." His eyebrows were waggling, which looked absolutely out of place and completely ridiculous on the innocent and youthful face of such a little ghoul.

"I wish there was a thread for, you know, naughty things." The blush on the pitbulls skin, however, did not look ridiculous - that looked entirely compatible in its preciousness.

As Svensyl made a variety of vaguely reptilian coos in her mind, Mimsy settled her eyes on Robert again, idly scratching the petit golem's back while he worked. She had been curious to know what he would draw to represent himself, when directed to do so without any further instructions, and allowed him to do it all on his own.

It was a (slight) exaggeration of his typical appearance, but she praised him nonetheless with a laugh and a soft clap - or clack - of her hands as he brandished it skyward.

"Yes, you did." The approval was reiterated by a lengthy scritch behind his ears, only stopping out of the necessity posed by the lack of extra appendages. It was really a pity that she didn't have another arm or three, which could have allowed her to reach for the string and pins as she had, without forcing her to choose between taking the box and petting her dog husband.

She dutifully attached his self-portrait to the wall, and pinned her half of the sheet on the left side of his, so close to it that the two overlapped without any assistance of colorful thread. Only when she was satisfied with this placement did she begin to draw herself: too tall, thin, unremarkable, and an inexplicable empty space where her left arm should be. The figure was almost unsettling in how blank it was, and would probably have raised a few questions had she not continued to add onto it. First came a pair of wings, a smaller replication of Svensyl's, a symbol of a heart in the middle of her chest, which she paused to color yellow, a single waist-length braid, a pattern of straight lines resembling a Cheshire tail. Then she added her left arm, which crossed from her half onto his to permanently retain their connection, and drew six little lines where the two figures intersected.

Though no exclamation followed the completion of her image, she did give him a glance that implied she was pretty pleased with herself, before attending to the subject of their strings.

"Red, if you so desire," she teased as she made the first connection. "And dark red, due to the possibility that we may be wed again at any time. Gold, of course. And..."

She tore just a thin strip from the paper provided and quickly scrawled something on it, punched a hole in it with the tip of one claw, slipped the end of a second red string through it, and attached the thread in a way that allowed the makeshift tag to be easily visible.

It read 'naughty things'.

Finding this very clever, she looked to him to eagerly await his approval.

Oh, the scritching. Oh, the scritching. He wanted her to do that all day, and he knew that once they left the golems he was never going to feel this particular level of mind-numbing bliss again. She stopped, and he drooped instantly, the loss tangible and defeating. At least the sight of their portraits was a welcome distraction, perking him (and his ears) to watch her at work.

As she drew herself, Robert waited patiently for her to fill out the details that made her, her. When she considered it done, there were flourishes from every path of importance that her life at Deus had thrown her into, but he still felt like she'd drawn someone else - someone foreign - someone that looked nothing like the Mimsy he saw, when he looked at her. It was a Mimsy she would never be able to see, without looking through his eyes, and through his heart. There, she was so different. There, she was so remarkably beautiful.

Suddenly she showed the tag for naughty things that she'd made, and he whooped with instant excitement. "You did it! You're the best wife boyfriend there is, Mimsygirl!" He leapt to his feet and his arms wrapped around her, looking as if he wanted to pick her up and twirl her around. He never made it past the holding part, as his height reminded him of their golems immediately.

So he just snuggled into her instead.

The idea of the tag seemed like the best solution to the very pressing problem that Robert posed, but it was not until his undeniably positive reaction that she accepted it as such. She bent to drape her arms around his shoulders again, smiling over his head at his proclamation of her status as the best.

"Thank you." Her typical reply of 'I know' was replaced with one more honest this time - because this particular bit of validation came unprompted, and the prompts arose from the fact she didn't know with utmost certainty, which made it even more satisfying to hear.

"And you are the best ghoulfriend-husband, so it is fortunate that we have found one another. It would be such a pity, were the best of relationships simply nonexistent." She pulled back to look down at him, and squeezed the tiny shoulders beneath her hands. "This is yet more evidence that we are making the correct decision in searching for Clarice, considering this talent."

This tangent to visit the shipping wall had been a fruitful one, but the importance of being the best wife served to remind her why they were here.

"We may continue our task now, if you wish." She gave him a nudge. "I require just one more moment."

Before placing all of the supplies back, she removed one white string and two short lengths of red. She then removed a blank corner of her portrait, signed it with a red μ, and connected it to the most familiar image of Amrita - her best friend forever. It did not seem right to leave without doing so, seeing the numerous connections the ghoul already had.

The red string was not used on the wall, but was tied into two loops instead. One went around the golem's ring finger, despite being incapable of making it past the first joint, and the second was slipped onto the ring finger of Robert's golem as she took his hand to hold.

Flawlessly inconspicuous.

It wasn't hard to get directions to the classroom building, but it was hard to find anyone inside once they'd gotten there. The school year had just begun, but it was an off day for classes and the building was all but empty. The most they found were a few working gnomes, and some tutoring sessions.

"What we need.." Robert pondered, as they look in room to room. "Is like, a faculty list. You know? Like maybe there's one near a phone, like in schools when you gotta find out what extension to call for a certain teacher they got the list right there." But he couldn't see a phone in the rooms he'd looked in, so his idea dwindled with each passing minute.

He entered one random classroom, determined to at least try to find something helpful. Instead, he found a wave of nostalgia hit him like a brick, and shook it off with a shudder. He hated school.

"What kinda teacher you think she'd be?" He muttered, looking through the papers on the desk. "Like, science? Or maybe English. She taught me good English!" Not that good, apparently.

Returning to the classrooms of Amityville always made Mimsy feel energized, filled with a renewed sense of purpose. If there was anything that she knew she was good at, it was being the most superior student ever.

Ever.

"I do not know the expanse of the classes provided here," she admitted, moving to sit in the chair behind the instructor's desk. This felt nice. "I imagine it is a curriculum quite different from our own, for all that it resembles it. The classes that I have attended were not too unfamiliar, but there must be many others."

As Robert searched the papers, she took her time opening each of the drawers, idly poking through the items she found there. The first appeared to be a small cache of confiscated object, judging from the odd variety and high quantity of broken skellyphones. Still, the items were intriguing, and she picked each unrecognizable thing up to turn it over in her hands.

"You would know her skill set better than I." A toy centipede writhed with synthetic life in her palm, emitting a green slime from a hole where its mouth should be. Mimsy giggled at the incredible plaything, pitying the fact that it would not survive back on the island. "Perhaps there is a class that instructs students how to create and modify constructs. I recall that she had an interest in mechanical engineering."

She gently kicked off of the floor to spin the chair back and forth, and tapped her chin with the slime-covered hand as she glanced across the desk at him.

"What is your favorite kind of teacher?" The light in her eyes flickered, as if she'd blinked at him. "Which subject?"

Mimsy looked like she fit right in the moment she sat down in that teacher's chair, and Robert realized that she did remind him a lot of his old teachers. His face scrunged up at the thought, and he tried very hard to forget it.

"Yeah, yeah! Mechanical engineering, so maybe here she's working on something constructy. A currikilem would be good right about now, see anything in them drawers?"

He hopped up fluidly onto the desk, and idly sharpened his claws on the side as she toyed with a centipede.

And there she was, even in a skeletal golem, looking like she'd been born to sit at a teacher's desk all of her life. It was impossible for him to really avoid noticing it, but once he accepted that Mimsy was his teacher too, and that meant she was inevitably the best teacher - suddenly, that prospect did not seem so awful.

"You're my favorite kind of teacher!" He informed her, hopping closer in hopes for some ear scritches. "I didn't like none of my subjects when I was in school. WAIT! That's a lie, 'cause gym was a subject, right?" He grinned with proud success. "Then gym!"

A smile crept onto the taut corners of the golem's mouth at the utterance of 'currikilem' - not because he'd pronounced it incorrectly, but because he'd tried so hard.

While he climbed up onto the desk, she borrowed an icky note and penstrictor to write out 'curriculum' with the proper spelling, then quietly set it in front of him. No scolding, no minus ten husband points, just the option of accuracy if he chose to take it.

"There is a roster in this one," she reported, drumming her claws on the surface of the book in the open drawer. "I am not opposed to continuing our search within this desk, but we may have better results if we ask the students directly. They are often very helpful."

She leaned forward to slip both of her arms beneath him, scooping him up like he really was a dog, to relocate him to her lap. Looking out over the desks in the classroom with a lapdog husband elicited an intriguing feeling of power and accomplishment, even if she had no real authority here.

"Don't worry." Then came the petting he'd been hoping for, soft and slow at first, to avoid immediately distracting him. "You will always be my favorite student."

Asking the students was a little risky, but inevitable if he was going to be honest with himself. Even in a regular school, if you've got questions, your best bet was always to ask the kids. They saw everything.

"Okay." He curled up the moment she picked him up, and whined with pleasure when she started scritching him. His head dropped to rest against her bony collar. He registered just how submissive he felt curled up against her, but couldn't be bothered to care enough to actually do something about it.

"When we get home," He murmured, still muffled by content. "I'm gonna have to make up for all this. Gonna carry you around everywhere and snuggle you all day long. No excuses."

Until then, he made sure to enjoy each moment for what it was. Bliss.
