Ashdown Fire Department. Open all hours.
Located near Town Hall and the Police Department, this is Ashdown's largest fire station. It's an impressive building with three garage bays, dormitory quarters upstairs for night shift personnel, a weight room, a lounge, and the main office. This is also the central hub for all Fire Department-related activity. The station's current mascot is Fidget, a 15-month-old Dalmatian who helps boost morale and aids the department's education initiatives by demonstrating fire safety tips like stop-drop-n-roll.
Become a Firefighter - Must be between 19 and 32 at the time of the exam - Pass a written test for Fire Fighter administrated by the State - Pass a Physical Abilities test administrated by the State - Pass a character background investigation - Meet medical fitness requirements - Have a valid Massachusetts driver's license - Pass a drug test - Pass a psychological exam - Be a non-smoker
For Completion of Probation - Complete all assignments of the academy - Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 certification - EMT certification
Employees Cam Rylan - Lt. and officer of Company 13 ("The Lucky 13")
Volunteers welcome.
----
Brewed Lobster The designated fire department bar is the Brewed Lobster (lovingly nicknamed the Rude Lobster), a 15-minute walk from the fire station.
It's a microbrewery that makes a great IPA, and has a ton of other local beers on tap as well as a couple rotating specials of Midwest and West Coast beers. Their cocktails, when people actually order them, are also fantastic and the food is surprisingly classy and good (think $17 - $20 an entree). Mood lighting, spacious outdoor area, tends to draw a crowd that leans toward the yuppie side.
The department hosts a happy hour for all employed and volunteer firefighters on the first Friday of every month, reserving the entire back patio (or basement, in the winter months) and ordering copious amounts of appetizers. They also get a special order of desserts delivered from somewhere else in the city, because the running joke within the department is that the Brewed Lobster serves the worst cheesecake in the greater Boston area (they don't actually, but there was an incident a few years ago that gave birth to both the myth and the Rude Lobster nickname).
20% off for firefighters, because god knows they spend enough there.

marmalade sky
Your friendly local head shop/hippie hangout. Open 10-7 M-T, 9-8 Saturday, and closed Sundays--theoretically. Opening times and closing times are treated as somewhat malleable.
Say the word "bong" and you'll be kicked out of the premises. There's a big sign in the window that says NOT A VAPE SHOP, due to the current owner's short temper with the trend (which Marmalade Sky substantially predates).
Retails in the usual products for tobacco use only, plus the usual velvet blacklight Grateful Dead bear posters, beaded curtains, incense, Manic Panic hair dye, body jewelry, some local crafts, and a roped-off section in the back you'll need ID for that retails in a small selection of more adult offerings.
No smoking on the premises (go stand by the dumpster like everyone else, OK?), as there is an elderly cat whose health must be considered. Lucy lives in the window and is the third Lucy since the shop's inception.
current IC staff (the rest would be NPCs)
