Playing footsie was one hundred percent something Jamie could do. America got her smile in return, a tiny wave, and Shiloh got Jamie's toes tip-tapping against his own. It was absolutely normal, at least until the return taps got harder and more frequent and he almost indignantly whispered ow, but what he saw next stopped him. Yeah, his parents knew about magic, it had been too hard to hide it from them forever. That didn't mean he wanted them seeing fluffy pink things in the middle of their family dinner.

"What the heck..." he whispered harshly, looking from Shiloh back to Juniper. His parents were still talking amongst themselves, still distracted. Jamie might've gone over to help, except that very moment brought a realization with it. The woman holding the othercreature was the very same person who'd all but forced him into the changing room.

Sure, he'd bought the skirt thanks to her overzealous insistence, but that didn't change the way the memory made him want to panic. With a small, upset noise, he shrunk down in his chair.

Several of the now eight pink fluffballs began to move around the bar, several diners either commenting that this must be 2016's new Christmas fad toy. The table next to Nathaniel's burst into speculative chatter.

Maybe we should steal some before people are trampled at Walmart trying to get one.

Others were less than thrilled. Behind Shiloh and Jamie, a young man slammed his glass down and began angrily gathering his things to leave.

Oh for god's sake, first they ruin Ghostbusters, and now they're making girly Tribble toys? ******** this. Thanks for ruining my childhood...again!


"Um...Gloom-friend? Are you sure you don't know these things, 'cause they seem pretty magical....you don't think they're like that ********' chipmunk, do you?"

Theo remained silent as the singular pink blob turned into four, then eight. He didn't wait to hear Gloom's non-information, approaching Juniper with what could only be described as panicked nonchalance instead. "Do you think we could... bring them back?" He meant to the other Ashdown, but he didn't want to say it in front of people who might not know what he was talking about. He bent to scoop up four of the new creatures, his movements frustrated and angular.

Gloom curled his way around America's leg and then, very carefully, made his way up to her shoulders and peered over at the pink fluff things.

"Gloom doesn't! These are too much like the mineminemine." He sniffed at the air. "... they aren't like that thing," he replied, "and Gloom thinks ..."

This was clearly because-

"The magic is leaking over," he whispered to America, "and Gloom can stop them but ..."

"I don't know..." hopefully Jamie's parents wouldn't notice, because he wasn't ready for them to have any more magical introductions than they already had. It was a stress that he knew weighed heavily on his friends mind, and it was a thought that made him touch their feet together again.

Now, when Jamie visibly jumped and shrunk away, that was concerning. "Hey, Jame—" unfortunately, the table behind them was home to one very indignant individual, and the second they slammed their cup down it sent Shiloh's senses on high alert. He jumped, his jaw went ridged, his eyes widened at the loud smack. Soon the man was gathering his things, but it didn't really matter, his nerves were already on fire.

He was mumbling under his breath, <******** ******** <******** ********> there was no way Jamie's parents weren't tuned into the situation now, but Shiloh refused to look at them. Instead he also sunk down into his chair, frantically tapping his foot against the ground. Jamie was upset and now he was having a stupid moment and it was taking everything in him not to freak out; keep it the ******** together Beaumont, stop sweating like a stupid a*****e.

"What the <********> are those." he hissed to Jamie, the strain in his voice obvious.

America maybe got a little sparkly eyed at the sight of Theo holding a big armful of purring pink furry things. It was the kind of thing she was shamelessly into and she could look, right? Looking was a-okay!

After a moment he was holding several more, and soon there were twelve between him and Juniper, who wasn't looking so happy anymore. Glancing around, she saw poor Shiloh and Jamie, one miserable and the other looking strained as all get out.

"Alrighty Gloom Friend, if you can stop them, let's here that but of yours before we're overrun."

"Y'gonna have to help me!" he chirped. "'Cause it's gonna hurt and y'gonna have to look after Gloom after."

Which meant it was gonna hurt him because he was gonna do some magics on this side. It was why he was giving America a nuzzle against her leg before his form shifted and became shadowy.

-and raced towards the pink furry things to envelope them in shadows and darkness.
