Shun removed his helmet, then raised his brow at Chel. He didn't say anything but the look pretty much was something along the lines of 'really?'

He turned his attention to the house, now able to make out its features a little more readily. Quite frankly, it looked like s**t. The structure looked frail and incredibly rickety. If there was anything to really be afraid of, it might be of the building coming down on itself.

The decorations set out front definitely made it seem as more of a tourist trap, but he didn't see anyone around where one might have to pay for admission to go through the spooky house.

"Alright, let us see just what the hell this is all about now."

She'd probably be coming over later regardless.

Chel didn't think the house looked suspicious. It just looked like a haunted house and she was expecting it to be a haunted house. The whole "investigate the house" bit had merely been a ploy to get Shun to go with her. She didn't intend to do that much sleuthing.

Hands in her pocket she peered around the entrance, only seeing a sign on the door.

PRIZES AWAIT THOSE BRAVE SOULS
WHO FACE THE HORRORS WITHIN!

"S'a little weird there's no people here t'make us pay or whatever- yeah?" She pulled the door open regardless. Free was free and Chel didn't complain about free.

Room 1 - Giant snake
2/18

Once he saw the sign on the door, he squinted at it, then just shrugged at Chel.

"A bit. I do not see anyone working this place, really," he muttered before he pushed the door open to start heading inside. The entrance lead into a hallway, which was to be expected for the most part. He looked around and... the interior wasn't really anything out of the ordinary thus far. There wasn't even really any over the top decorations or anything.

Shun tilted his head as the lights flicker away briefly. It happened too fast for his eyes to have really adjusted to the darkness before the lights were back.

He turned around, only to find a rather large snake now in the hallway. A door had also opened up elsewhere.

Furrowing his brow, he backed away from the serpent with a sense of wariness. It looked real enough. And if for some reason, it was actually real because this place might have some Other Ashdown nonsense to it, it shouldn't be all that hostile. Unless it were a magic snake of sorts. It could be. Either way, he didn't really want to provoke it if necessary. They could go on their merry ways.

Chel followed with a rather relaxed disposition. She was usually the one taking scaredy cats into dark places; she didn't really get scared of much.

She tilted her head at the snake, walking in pace with Shun. "Looks like that one they got at the zoo." They must have had it on a string with someone pulling the string while they moved through. Pretty clever, all things considered.

Even as Shun grew a bit more wary, Chel only took a few steps forward and stopped to turn and look at him. She thought he'd paused to look at something and was just patiently waiting for him to catch up."Weird s'a snake though. Ain't it usually skeletons an' s**t?"

Room 2 -A nurse. She cries. Blood leaks from her eyes and off of her hands.
7/18

"What is more odd is that it is just out there like that. I feel like that may violate something somewhere."

They were now in a dining room of sorts. Shun narrowed his eyes at the wax figures that were all "talking" around the table they were sitting at. It was hard for him to not think of the faceless after seeing mannequin-like figures, but he had his doubts that these were actually those beings. Well. If they started moving any time soon, that would be proof enough there.

He didn't think that the faceless could really leave Other Ashdown anyway.

The next door opened up, seemingly on its own, and something else was within his peripheral vision...

A bloody nurse stood there, crying blood. He furrowed his brow, staring at her for a few moments.

Right.

The sounds of her sobs were a little grating. The detective just sort of edged around her and moved on.

Chel raised an eyebrow. "You ... know that ain't real, right?" Was he actually gullible when it came to this kind of stuff?

Lightning flashed and Chel grinned. "Yeah see- 'as more like it. Lightning an' s**t- that's super haunted house-y." A tv flickered while creepy mannequins sat at a table. That was good- classic haunted house s**t that looked cheap and worn. All it was missing was strobe lights and a witch's cackle.

Then a woman started crying and Chel made a face similar to Shun's. "Must be annoyin' gettin' paid t'sit there an' cry. Feels like yer throat would get all shitty."

"I am uncertain. Something about this place gives me an Other Ashdown vibe," he muttered. He wasn't really sure what it was. Maybe that was just his paranoia speaking, really. Aside from the snake, this was fairly standard for a Haunted House though.

"I doubt she is getting paid anything," he commented flatly.

If he was right about the magic stuff, that was one reason. But aside from that, there was no admission. This place had no source of income. Keeping up the effects and the like was probably expensive as is without also having to pay whatever actors or actresses that happened to lurk about as well. If this was actually a product of regular Ashdown, it was probably on a volunteer basis.

That was his guess, anyway.

"Come on. Next room."

Chel took the time to wiggle one of the mannequins in the table and said, "Yyyeah I think this is just some cheap thrills." Emphasis on cheap; free.

"Ah- might be a recording or somethin' yeah." She thought it was maybe less convincing than a real person doing the screaming, but it was certainly more likely in a free haunted house.

"Lead the way. Y'can hold my hand f'you get scared," she added with a snicker.

Room 3 - the nurse again
12/18

Shun grunted lowly in response to Chel and promptly placed his hands into his pockets. And on into the next room. He paused as they were now practically surrounded what appeared to be a bunch of college student ghosts. Two of them were even playing beer pong, apparently.

"What."

Was this supposed to be scary?

One of the ghosts pointed behind the two of them, and Shun glanced on over his shoulder. The nurse from the previous room was RIGHT THERE. And she was still wailing. The detective's fingers twitched and he took a step back and away from her as she was kind of getting too close into his personal space.

"Seriously?"

She wasn't going to start following them around the damn place now was she?

Chel had to admit, the effects on the ghost were ... kind of ridiculous. If anything was going to make her think that this might be Other Ashdown related, it was the ghosts.

"She's prolly paid t'chase us an' s**t. I jus' hope s'not one of those ones where they grab you- ********' tacky." Chase haunted houses had their time and place, but she had a feeling Shun would beat the s**t out of anyone who tried to grab him. That wouldn't be fun to explain to their management and it would probably come with a hospital bill.

"Let's move on; she's annoyin' as s**t either way."

Room 4 - eerie scarecrow
16/18

"Again. I doubt she is being paid anything."

Shun did go on into the next room. Somehow, he had stepped out into the garden. He blinked as a light fog rolled in through the area, shining with the full moon's light. Or what appeared to be the full moon anyway. That was... like a week ago.

He shrugged at the thought. Ambiance.

His gaze fell upon the pair of skeletons, but he didn't pay them much mind until one apparently moved to point the way they needed to go. While he turned in that direction, something loomed just out of the corner of his eyes. It turned out to be a scarecrow.

"...I guess that fits here," he muttered. It was about then that it started to cackle at him. Mockingly.

The detective's fingers twitched in annoyance.

Chel wasn't sure how they'd made their way back outside again. For a moment she actually thought they'd actually somehow made it out of the place altogether. A short and altogether unremarkable haunted house.

But then she noticed the skeletons and rolled her eyes. They must have found a way to open up part of the house to the sky. A creepy scarecrow and some skeletons- very haunted house vibe.

She saw Shun twitch and gestured forward. "S'okay. Just keep movin'." As they walked past she knocked of of the skeletons into the other, producing a hollow sound. "S'all plastic an' speakers."

Final room - Your shadow grows behind you, taking shape into something eldritch and unspeakable.
too much/18

Shun grumbled under his breath as he trudged on into the next room. While he could see just fine in the dark, there wasn't a whole lot to see. The place was completely empty aside from the two of them. There was music blasting as well as the sound of a lot of people all around. He couldn't spot any speakers along the walls or... anywhere.

It was really disorienting, actually.

A siren went off somewhere and a door finally opened up. About time. He was starting to get a headache from this room. But just as he was about to head out, something grabbed him from behind. He thought it was Chel and was about to be really annoyed with her but it most definitely wasn't her as he turned.

His shadow had grown and morphed into... something.

Well nothing else pointed this to being a product of Other Ashdown, this certainly did it.

Shadows, tentacles and two glowing eyes.

Chel would spend the rest of the night wondering if that had been her fault.

"Should we use yer amulet thing t'push it in though?" she asked, following the sound of his voice. Dark, crowded places that were disorientingly noisy weren't hard for Chel to navigate. She thought it might have been for Shun though. "This is me- m'just tryna make sure I don't lose you." Only after saying that did she touch where she thought his arm was so she could keep track of him.
