For Rabbit, it had all started with a squeep. Or several, actually. Loud, angry sounds coming from his birds mere breaths before he felt the call himself. Come and see. He really didn't want to, but he was hardly in a position to refuse these days. He made sure the sirens were safe in their new, horrible cage before he slipped away, leaving a hasty note for his sister as he went.

He hopped through the forest like a frog, or maybe even a rabbit, his crooked, sad umbrella flapping behind him with every leap. His sneakers were almost dry when he slid up next to Alexis, heart racing with nerves and overexertion.

"Come and see, right?" He huffed a disdainful breath through his nose, but a curious smile remained on his face. "Did you bring a knife this time?"

Nathaniel, standing beside a large sycamore tree, frowned at the forest in front of them.

He disliked feeling uneasy about things - in fact, his living and monetary situations were really the only things that he could claim to feel uneasy over, with magic being what he felt inadequate over - which meant that the feeling he was experiencing now was curling low in the pit of his stomach, twisting unpleasantly.

He folded arms across his chest and stared at the gloomy surroundings, hearing distantly the sounds of the people milling around him. If he thought about it hard enough he could still feel the pull in his chest, Nathaniel running an absent hand through his hair before letting it drop again.

Well. At least he wasn't entirely alone. Realistically speaking.

Leila and Eve were there. They normally flourished in a growing crowd, but in this one they were reserved and uncomfortable, both for different reasons. For Eve, there was simply too much going on and she could barely hear herself think; for Leila, being cut off and so far away from her familiar-in-training was putting her on edge. She hoped the chickens, now growing awkwardly gangly and growing proper feathers over their baby fluff, would be alright in her absence.

The choking intensity of sage and smoke gave Eve a small break from the clustering array of scents gathering around them. "Over there, love," she said, directing her wife towards a grouping of familiar voices. Jeremiah's scent was far too easy to pick up as they approached, and thankfully the spiced chai notes of it complemented the sage instead of making the constant overload worse.

"Hey... how are you?" Leila asked the detective as they approached: a simple general question, with obvious and specific intent. Eve greeted the rest of the group with a wave.

Juniper hadn't even gotten to bed when the pull to go to the forest hit. Hell, she has barely been home and in comfortable pajamas before she had quickly changed again, grabbed a light jacket, and was on her way out the door. So, that's how she arrived at the forest, her hair in messy curls after being freed from her do, a pair of jeans, T-shirt, sneakers and her jacket.

"Seems it's another party tonight." he said as she walked up the small gathering of people she, for the most part, knew (Jer's little gathering). "I won't lie, I haven't had a chance to recover from the one we just left." She said as she stifled a yawn.

"So, I thought s**t wasn't suppose to go down until tomorrow." She said, glancing at Zac and Shun, both who had been at the seance.

"And what was with that voice?" She questioned to them all, obviously curious. "Come here and see? That wasn't creepy at all." She huffed, the breath misting softly amongst the rain that was doing a good job of soaking people. If it wasn't for the hood of her jacket, Juniper would look like a drenched rat.

Jack, who was not particularly good at keeping the best of sleeping habits--college life, especially graduate school life, was a burden like that--was in the middle of his second red eye when the sluggishness took over. It wouldn't have occurred to him that it was supernatural in nature if he hadn't taken a look outside, tried to move, or otherwise done the smart thing and sleep. Hell, he had almost forgotten it was his birthday.

But his psyche, already somewhat sensitive, was rubbed raw by the vision. He half walked, half stumbled into the awaiting party in the forest, coffee still clutched in his hand, camera haphazardly hanging from his neck. (A different one, an older and inferior model.)

"The hell?" was all he said to the group, dark eyes narrowed.

"This is unprecedented, given that even those that claim to be responsible have not experienced this before." Jeremiah looked to Shun and then to the rest of the group. "Renard made mention of a powerful binding being broken."

Not that that had necessarily cleared things up but it was something else to work with. There was little to say, really, and when Algie greeted Zac his stomach tensed. He tried to pinpoint where he thought he was but it was a lost cause.

To him Zac did not exist.

The young woman with the dog was given a brief glance, her face entirely unfamiliar. For a moment he thought to say something about the dog but-

A hand is lifted in greeting towards Nathaniel, Jeremiah catching him there and his lips pressing briefly to a thin line because some part of him wished that so many weren't being pulled in.

Juniper got a raise of eyebrow and tilt of his head in greeting but Jeremiah's attention shifted to both Eve and Leila as they approached. The pair of them looked ill at ease, more so than Algie and himself did.

"As well as can be expected," he replied, giving the wives a warm, reassuring smile. "You know my feelings on words that come with both scent and taste." Which was to say they often caused him to lose his lunch, especially if it was a burnt taste.

"That and the last time come and see occurred ..." he glanced between Leila and Algie especially, though he also looked towards Alexis and Rabbit and the others he recognized from that time during march. "At least this time I wasn't missing for a week."

Jeremiah's attention flicked to Jack, recognizing him from Blackfriar's but not really having anything else he could say that he hadn't already.

Alexis raised a hand in half-greeting to Rabbit, surprisingly undrenched for all the rain -- there was a sizable puddle around their feet, but their face was dry, if tired and wan. "Nah. Don't carry one lately. Don't really see a reason to." Getting stabbed, of course, was also a major instigator in their recent lack of desire to carry a weapon, but -- it was raining.

They had an inkling of what they could do with that, if they tried.

"How've you been since the ball?"

The weight had been near unbearable. Acacia had had plans for Halloween, nothing particularly special but something she'd been looking forward to. She'd given them up in favor of staying home, though, sure that either she was sick or something worse was coming. It was easier to believe the latter these days, and though she couldn't quite help wanting to go to her family so she wouldn't be alone when it inevitably struck, she'd worried about the consequences for them. She was the one bad luck clung to, after all.

So she'd been in her apartment when dusk fell, curled up on the couch and staring blankly out the window at the rain. But then the feeling and the forest and the voice, leaving that strange taste in her mouth. Her heart pounded against her chest as she leapt into motion, every beat a repeat of the call to the forest. She wasn't even dressed for going out in this weather, and the time it took to trade what she'd slept in for pants and shoes and the first jacket that caught her sight felt like a lifetime.

There wasn't time to worry about how she must look without her makeup on, her hair tugged up into a bun ten times as messy as usual because she hadn't bothered with grabbing a brush in her rush. The fact that she'd grabbed a jacket without a hood, apparently, would have quickly negated any effort she would have put into it, anyway. She was well and truly soaked by the time she reached the gathering in the forest.

"Oh," she gasped as she came to a stop by the others, spotting some familiar faces and wondering whether that spike of relief was at all justified. "Thank God it's not just me."

      Veronica rather liked the rain.

This morning waking up, though, not quite. The air felt too heavy and palpable, humid and achey and Veronica didn't like it. She'd felt tired all day, and hadn't managed to get a wink of sleep during her naps, feeling too cranky and dampened. Normally, Vero was the first to push for the Halloween season, but the weather made her less festive, more tired. She went out dressed and ready for trick-or-treating with her siblings, donning a black hat and an overwhelming amount of make-up courtesy of her younger brothers. They'd made them all look fantastic, her witch costume seeming less of a spare rag and more of an actual costume, and the excitement from the rest of her siblings only served to make the night even more fun.

That didn't stop her from answering the call.

Veronica felt a little nauseous as the sky faded to black, feeling a strange release reverberate through her as her body tensed at different intervals. Veronica swallowed. Her siblings were still excited for the rest of the night, even if it was already starting to get dark, and Veronica decided she needed a bit of a break from her overwhelming family. There might've been another reason, an urge pulling her to the forest, but Veronica didn't realize it just yet, following instinct more than reason. I have to go to the forest, she heard, but she was quite sure that wasn't her, even if it sounded like her, even if it came from her own mind. Curiosity rang through her body as a taste for a voice echoed through her head, tasting something a little more than singed on her tongue as she trudged through the forest and almost fell face first onto another. She'd avoided collision, but it was still enough to garner an apology from the costumed witch--"Oh, excuse me," She'd murmured, but was a little more surprised than confused-- Were they called as well? Did they hear it too?

A lingering worry for her siblings nicked at her mind, but she decided not to delve to deep into it.

The ball. Right. Whenever someone alluded to the extravaganza that had ended his time away, Rabbit couldn't help but feel that he might understand just a sliver of the emotions a celebrity with a sex tape felt every day. Everyone had seen him vulnerable and naked. Everyone knew something about him that he hadn't chosen to share. It wasn't quite as humiliating as a hi-res jpeg of the Adam-Sandler-shaped birthmark on his inner thigh making its way across the internet or anything, but it still took a little getting used to. He shrugged, raising his eyebrows slightly as his curious smile faded into simple curiosity.

"Better now than right after it, I guess. You okay?"

He didn't have a clue what they had been through, at the ball or in the weeks that followed. All Rabbit knew was that they looked wrung out. Wrung out and oddly dry. He propped the stem of his umbrella between his neck and his shoulder as he fished a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it.

"I mean, an Alexis without a knife... That's like a golf guy without a club."

COME AND SEE

They follow the call and it leads them through the washed-out trails of Waite State. They're long past the clusters of giggling children beneath umbrellas and there's a feeling like trespassing as they pass beneath the heavy boughs of skeleton trees, wet leaves clinging to shoes and ankles.

At some point Darcie's charge sets in his haunches and refuses to go further; whatever is here he cannot abide.

So they walk, and then they stop, and despite assumptions--it is Heliodora's grove they stop in. A great rift, just like they'd seen in their minds, stretches beneath the trees like the river she'd once sat in. Deep inside it there is the sound of rushing water. Deep inside it, stars burn, screaming light and heat. Behind them is a heavy weight, one that turns solid should they attempt to turn away, to leave. They are here now. Now they must stay.

Across the chasm, there is Sunny. She is wild-haired and wild-eyed, the violet of her eyes sparking with something terrifying and obscene. She smiles a death's head smile and she has never looked quite so inhuman, never looked so much like the god she is.

"It's grown," she says to them, and her voice isn't a voice so much as a flavor, a scent. Sage and burnt offerings, a dusty scent of myrrh. It's not the voice that called them; her voice feels old as the dark beneath the trees. It calls to mind the hunt, an ancient pounding of adrenaline. A time where things were purer. "Have you come to watch, too?"

The tension in the air is growing again.

Still with a sense of unease, Shun continued on with the rest of the group, further into the forest. When they came upon Heliodora's grove, he furrowed his brow. It seems his gut may have been right about what the rift was. Heliodora herself may have been the 'plug'.

"I think we know just what that broken binding was..." he stated quietly to Jeremiah.

Furthermore, Sunny was here. She looked different, but it was her.

Her name is Ascension because she will ascend if allowed.

Was this her time?

He grew tense, looking around at the others briefly. More people have come on around. He had a really bad feeling about all of this.

They move and they arrive and it is Heliodora's grove. Jeremiah knows the markers and the paths to it on this side and-

She's there. His hand clenches on Algie's and Jeremiah stares hard at Sunny. The voice calls to them, just as Sunny speaks to them, and both carry both scent and flavor.

He thinks, suddenly, of the sky as he had seen in through Sunny. Open and endless and not this one.

There is no answer from him, no response, because this is something that has passed.

Still he meets her gaze unflinchingly even as it unsettles something deep within.

His attention shifts briefly to Shun. "Perhaps but if there were bindings on her as well ..." Jeremiah's gaze slides back, his eyes glowing brightly. "Then we've more to be concerned about than just the cage breaking and this rift."

The rift calls and pushes at his senses.

Chel found herself in a stranger's bed when it happened. At first she thought it was just one hell of a hangover, but when it intensified into something cosmic- that was when she knew it was more than a night of revelry.

s**t. Wasn't she supposed to have gone home with Jack? What had happened to him? What had happened to her?

It was dusk by the time she'd woken up, already missed out on the entire day. She ran a hand through her hair and tried to muss up some details. Something about a big crack in the ground or ... what had it been?

All she remembered was the forest. Looking out the window she saw the tops of some trees; convenient. It took a bit to wrestle herself into her pants without waking any of the other occupants of the house, but eventually she made her way down the stairs and out the door.

Apparently she'd been in some kind of dilapidated looking house on the edge of the forest. Maybe that was why she'd had that strange vision of the forest; memories of the night prior? Maybe Jack was out there or something.

She started walking. The evening air smelled nicer than whatever had gone down in that house and her phone wasn't charged anyways.

Darcie O'Hare
Meta 4
Darcie had gathered a lot more attention than she had expected. And a majority of the people here all seemed to know each other. Darcie shifted from foot to foot, uncertain what to make of this place and the people in it. suddenly, someone said something to her Darcie froze for a second before realizing that they were talking about Bruce. "Oh, um, thanks, yeah ill do that." Darcie responded. She wasn't entirely sure what she was supposed to do, so she got out her plastic poncho and put it over Bruce. The dog gave her a look, not bothered by the rain too much.

Darcie saw other people gathering, more heads nodding to familiar faces, and more looks of surprise as people realized there were more gathered here than previously expected. She spotted a woman who looked just as out of place, if not more, than herself. "Hey." Darcie said, greeting the woman. Then she squinted at the girl, "Im Darcie, i feel like ive seen you around town..."

The group kept moving forward, and Darcie fallowed. Where else was she really going to go anyway? Bruce suddenly stopped in his tracks, and refused to go any further. Darcie went down to a knee to see what was up. "Bruce, come on." When the dog flatly refused, Darcie was left standing next to him as everyone walked on. She looked at the dog, then back at the group of people, feeling herself being pulled along. Looking between Bruce and the group a few more times, Darcie secured the poncho on the pooch and turned to secure him to a tree. She gave the dog a guilty look. She couldn't turn back... and he wouldn't come...
