Quote: AREA FIVEAs the ride comes to the last area, the path of the boat becomes unclear- water is everywhere. There are small craggy rocks in the water, flowering vines hanging from above, and the drip of what sounds like a deep cave. Yet that feeling ends as one by one, paper lanterns start floating by and then a few float down from above landing in the water and continuing down the path the boat came from. In the distance you think you see another boat and another pair but look away as you realize they’re just about to kiss. AMBIANCE3 - something stalks the area you are in, glowing eyes watching you. you cannot see it, not clearly and it makes your eyes water, but you hear the growls and swear you hear it whisper a name, your name.
[BOAT POINTS: 6 - 3 = 3. WE MADE IT!!]
Kaleb had a point about the stuffed unicorn. It probably didn't care, but Cassandra totally cared. Unicorns were serious business. She did, however, look down at Gloom when he mentioned a name. "Geralt?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. When Kaleb tried to pass the gift off to the strange creature, however, Cassandra happily backed him up.
"Of course you can have it. It doesn't have our name on it so it's obviously for any of us, yeah?"
It sounded like water. A lot of water. There hadn't been any real change to the scenes they'd been watching. Simply water and the continued path into darkness. Cassandra noticed after a moment until the walls started to barely illuminate. Peering over the edge of the boat, she looked into the water.
Lanterns.
Cassandra had all sorts of self control, but clearly didn't exercise it as she reached into the water and pulled out one of the lanterns to set in the boat. "I guess we'll just have to see if we get to see anything else-" or if all of Cass's critical feedback broke everything.
Surprisingly, ahead, she could see another boat (she hadn't seen that before). It must have been shaped a little differently because she could tell two people were sitting in it and - "Well I guess they enjoyed the ride at least." Cassandra leaned back to chuckle and looked away into the darkness. Immediately she perked up in surprise. Something was....moving and she didn't like that it threw on her fear-o-meter a little bit.
-a--ann---aaaaa...
Cassandra stiffened. nonononono. Nobody knows that name.
Saaa-maaaannnn-thaaaaaaa
She shrunk into the boat and pulled her jacket a little bit closer around her, remaining in that position until the boat finally exited the tunnel....right where they'd started.

Kaleb was immediately relieved, not only had he successfully dodged possession of the mysterious gift, but his suggestion had made Gloom very happy. It never hurt to be on good terms with intelligent magical creatures. He offered the present again for Gloom to take.
He didn't notice the change in area right away since there was no big scene to draw his attention, but there was something kinda calm and peaceful about the vines and the way the light seemed to radiate from the water. When Cass leaned over, he did the same on his side to see the lanterns that were the real source of light.
"That's pretty neat- Wait, I'm not sure you're supposed to pick them up," Kaleb protested, warily eyeing the lantern now riding with them in the boat. "Maybe you should-"
He froze as the growl sounded lightly in his ears, and he thought he might have heard it whisper his name amongst the louder noises of flowing water. Cass was already flinching back from the sound, drawing into herself as though the swan boat would carry them unnoticed past whatever it was stalking them in the darkness.
"Gloom, do you know what that was?" Kaleb asked in a whisper, only starting to relax as the boat pulled back out into the bright sunlight. He shielded his eyes, and glanced back over his shoulder to make sure nothing had followed them out of the darkness.

Gloom, once he was reassured the gift was his, proudly declared, "Gloom will give this to the one he likes! For affection levels!" Presents were a good way to raise those, right? The last area did not seem to hold his attention though he perked up at all the floating lights that appeared.
What he did not like, however, was what he heard and his ears pressed flat to his head. There was something whispered, something he did not like, and he let out a nervous chitter. "Sometimes," he said slowly, "there are things in places like that y'are better not finding. Especially when they know y'name, y'true name ..."
The moment they were in bright sunlight, however, there was a distressed squeak as the black as pitch marten tried to hide under one of them.
"Bright! Bright! Bright!" For a moment shadows seemed to flood the swan boat, as if they could hide Gloom, but then they receded back into the marten who was still chittering in distress.

Kaleb was briefly unsettled by Gloom's answer regarding the strange growling thing, but it was put out of his mind as the dark creature squealed unhappily and tried to wiggle away from the light. He had nothing on him that would make any decent darkness, so he was relieved when Cass offered her jacket.
"It was... an experience," the teen agreed as he too scrambled out of the boat, although he wasn't sure how he felt about it just yet. The fright towards the end of the ride would surely come back to haunt him in dark alleys and late, sleepless nights, but spending time with a couple strangers at once hadn't been an unpleasant experience in itself. It probably helped that Cass hadn't expected much from him other than his company, and Gloom was, well... yeah.
His phone buzzed in the depths of his bag, but Kaleb was too distracted to notice it. Maybe he would check it at the end of the day, in those moments right before sleeping when he realized he forgot to plug it in again.
"I'm okay, I can walk back," he said quickly, knowing there might be a nice park to pass through between here and his apartment. It still looked like there was plenty of time left in the day to get that quiet reading in, and a sunlit walk would be good for him.
"Thank you though, take care! You too Gloom!" He said, and headed on his way.

Gloom practically dived for Cassandra as she opened up her jacket. He nestled against her side, white eyes wide and watching her from the darkness. "Gloom just needs to be taken to a dark place and he can get home. Y'don't need to take Gloom home."
For a brief second he peeked back out at Kaleb, nose twitching as he sniffed at the air. "Thank y'for letting Gloom join ya." He would linger with Cassandra until she found him an appropriately dark spot but Kaleb would only get a nose twitch and what seemed to be an attempt of waving goodbye with a paw.
