There was something about the line 'The Chief of Police was in an accident and there may have been gunfire and he's requesting you' that had a way of having all paperwork shoved to the wayside (not like she was working a fairly big missing person's case anymore) and making Fox rather grateful it was paperwork and not a clingy cat she'd had to fling off of her.

Albeit, if it had been Bento, she probably would have just brought the cat along to hold Jeremiah while she worked. That would have been the least helpful thing to do all day.

But if there was anything diligent about Fox, it was that she was good about making sure she had everything with her. A crime scene kit was neatly stocked in the back of her vehicle and Curtis was in the passenger seat, sent off to start taking photographs while Officer Bliskiss (the worst-best porn name ever) made her way over to the ambulance. She showed her identification, then climbed into the back of the vehicle. While the paramedics worked (if they were still, or if they were too busy being intimidated by a magic man in a state of injured), she lingered behind them.

"What's the situation, Boss?" she asked, "Remember anything or just wanted to see a lovely face that wasn't going to be a worried spouse?" it was a teasing quip, but perhaps not the time. "I have Curtis started on pictures," she added.

Jeremiah snorted and then sighed because that actually did not feel good. The bruises were already starting to come in, one of his eyes bloodshot. It was particularly eerie given the oddness of his eyes.

"Someone tried to kill me, Officer Bliskiss." His voice was rough and there was, in fact, what looked like frost on his chest covering his clothing. "Do you have an evidence bag with you?" Since he had said to make sure to have one.

Fox easily fished out the double-bagged evidence back (to keep it from having evidence of a police-issue vest all over it) from her vest. Slipping on a pair of gloves (also from the deep reaches of the double-bagged vest) she slipped the evident bag out of it's bag (double bagging was not always helpful), she slid it open.

"Do I need to collect it or..." she glanced down at the wound on his chest. While his body may have been hearty, this clothing was not so much.

"Just ..." Jeremiah gestured her closer. "Hold your hand under the ice on my chest." When he said ice it was a little more obvious that that was the case. What was frost on his clothing turned to icy scales under it.

The moment her hand was in place, waiting, the frost and icy scales started to recede until a bullet was revealed and dropped. It had barely been stopped and, with the protection of his dragonhide no longer visible Jeremiah's chest was a mottle of blues and purples, edged with yellow and green. While he was not dead, it was clear that the damage done was similar to when someone was shot while wearing a bulletproof vest.

Fox did as she was instructed, taking the bullet when his body...offered it to her. She could tell where a few paramedics had been made uncomfortable by this, but Fox put on her 'this is perfectly normal' face. If she didn't treat it as odd, perhaps it would assure them.

Carefully, she bagged it, removed the self-sealing strip on the bag and sealed it, labeling the bag immediately. Fox still frowned at the bag as she went through the motions, before looking up at Jeremiah.

"Which happened first, the car or this?" she asked, holding up the bag.

Normally Jeremiah would have cared, would have not wanted people to see just the kind of magic he was capable of but he did not. Right now, he was angry and he was in more pain than he had been in in a long time.

Fox would get a quiet thank you later for not reacting as if it was odd.

"The bullet. I was on the phone with Algie," a gesture to his ear meaning on bluetooth, "and driving down the street when the bullet penetrated the windshield. I jerked on the steering wheel, meaning to make sure and get out of the road and away from traffic when I believe a second bullet was fired and blew out a tire. Which lead to the vehicle rolling."

Fox tucked the bullet away and pulled out her notebook, carefully documenting Jeremiah's words as he spoke and nodding along. "Do we need to call Algie or has someone already contacted your husband?" she asked, then paused, "I can give you my phone to call him yourself if you think that would be better for him than hearing from a stranger," she offered.

"Two shots, got it. Did you see anybody?" It was a still rather light hour of day, but sometimes you didn't pay attention to random people when you were focusing on the road. "To hit both you and your wheel there's only so many places the shooter could have been standing, but this area...."

It was mostly homes.Safe homes.

"I'll have Curtis check for any cameras either way." Maybe someone had a security system.

"Alg was on the phone with me when I got shot," Jeremiah replied, eyes closing and a slow breath escaping. "If you'd call him and direct him to the hospital, I'd appreciate it." Never mind that his husband was probably already on the phone about the fact his car had been wrecked. Did they cover assassination attempts for causes of vehicle destruction?

There was a nod about Curtis already on pictures and taking a look at cameras.

"I can only give you a vicinity. I did not see anyone because of spinning before the flip." Jeremiah tried to raise his arm, to point down the street and stopped with a hiss of breath. "There are not a lot of places that would offer a good vantage point, so I would start with the apartment building down the street. It's the same direction that the bullet came from." His arm lowered, wrapped around himself. "To make that kind of shot? Two of them? Probably a professional."

"Of course. I'll get him sent in that direction before I join up with Curtis," she said, looking over her notes, then quietly adding to them as Jeremiah motioned to the building down the street....and shared his observation.

Fox's heart turned into a terrified lump in her chest, but she kept on her best brave face. Jeremiah may have noticed the momentary flash of fear that met her features, however.

"A professional...so I should definitely take someone else with me..." she frowned, debating Curtis from outside, then briefly, "anybody in particular you have in mind?" she had a feeling she knew who the recommendation would be, but...

"It will be alright," Jeremiah said in a low voice, "as if this is a professional, they've likely left already. You simply need to look and see where they had set up shop." Jeremiah shifted uncomfortably, though he was clearly trying to be reassuring.

"I would recommend the Detective Lieutenant with you but ..." He shook his head. "It is his day off and he's still recovering." Recovering from being gone. "Take two other officers with you, Curtis and Simmons should do it."

OK Fox, let the injured man stop having to be a reassurance in a state of 'I WAS SHOT'. That was just mean.

She nodded, turning to look away from the building down the street. "Got it. I'll get someone to take over on photography and evidence collection and head down there before too much can be covered up. We...can wait for Detective Kuroda to be back on his feet before we..throw too much at him."

Fox sighed. Well, there was always something.

"Anything else before I go?"

Jeremiah gave her a few more details, what little there was to talk about. They would fade as the pain became greater and time went on.

"There's nothing else besides that. Just keep me updated. I want to know everything and anything you learn, Officer Bliskiss." It was a big deal, it was rather ridiculous, that someone had even tried to kill him in the first place.

"I don't want to believe this to be some kind of magical hatecrime but that is a possibility as well as potentially someone lashing back out." He thought, briefly, of mentioning the stalker but Viktor stayed away.

The paramedic was finally crowding in, staring at Jeremiah who sighed. "I'll be at the hospital. You can contact me there. Be safe, Officer Bliskiss. You are more than capable to handle this."

Which meant in the next moment Jeremiah was being ushered into the ambulance and taken away, leaving Fox behind.

Fox nodded. "Of course, sir. I'll follow up with you as soon as I have an update," she stepped back to allow the paramedics to do their job, frowning as she moved to go join Curtis. She paused briefly to contact the front desk back at the station to get the next-of-kin contact information for Jeremiah Mercer, took down Algernon's number, then quietly made the needed phonecall; Your husband is fine, your car is not, this is what hospital Jeremiah was taken to. He's a little cranky, as is expected, we'll keep you both updated on this case.

Once the call was over, she logged the bullet she'd taken into the collected evidence and pulled Curtis and Simmons from their own tasks to head down to the building that Jeremiah had directed her towards. The apartment building.

If there was anything to find, she was going to make sure the three of them did.

Quoting because what would the three stooges find?

Quoting you to know Fox called Algie at Jeremiah's request!

' Your husband is fine, your car is not, this is what hospital Jeremiah was taken to. He's a little cranky, as is expected, we'll keep you both updated on this case.' is the essential jist. :> <3

The apartment building in question was currently uninhabited. Some time ago, it had been marked to be torn down so that a better building complex could be built in its place. A part of the back area had been fenced off. There were signs in the dirt on both sides that someone might have hopped it in both directions.

"Fox, this building's..nobody is going to care who went in and out of it. I mean, we're gonna have to go through it here for squatters before they tear it down, but..." Curtis trailed off as the young woman began to pace around the building.

"Well if you think there are squatters inside, go check and see if anybody saw anything," Fox suggested, trying to not sound too serious...but definitely sounding too serious. While not preferable, she sent Simmons with them. She had to hope that Jeremiah's logic was solid - the shooter was likely gone and if they were anywhere still, it was going to be inside.

Alternately, she was going to get shot and it would be bad.

That left Fox alone as she circled around back, frowning as she investigated the fence. There was a lull as she stopped to carefully photograph the area (and anything notable about the traveled areas of the fence) before she herself climbed over it (not very gracefully) to investigate the interior of the fenced off area.
