emotion_dowant emotion_skull Peek-a-Boo yum_pizza emotion_ghost
Designer: Sana Minatozaki
Model: Abby
Description:
My whole concept on my outfit for Abby is from a music video called Peek-a-Boo, by a K-Pop girl group named Red Velvet. If you already get where I'm going with my outfit, no need to read my lengthy description down below, but if you don't, please read it. click the link first, tho, the "music video" before the description
Based on the concept of Peek-a-Boo where the girls are cuties but psychotic and obsessed over a pizza guy. In Abby's case, she's just simply a psycho cutie.
The group's name is Red Velvet, meaning the red is the cute side, and the velvet is the sexy and dark side. In Abby's case, her red side is her outfit, in which you can tell is a very cute outfit that matches her face. If you can't tell, I layered my outfit with accessories, such as a bow for both head and dress, and long sleeves. The velvet side of Abby is her holding a chainsaw with blood dripping down, which explains the hands lying on the floor. The chainsaw is one with the long sleeves, so I can't remove the sleeves, but I love it, so I don't mind, in fact, I wanted it.
Overall, these are two complete opposite concepts as one. Opposite but coming together matching and fitting as one, like a yin-yang symbol.
From my experience in Cycle 1, I learned various advice, such as:
- cute is never enough to stand out, try out different concepts
- never rely on dresses all the time, it's sloppy and boring, try to do layered outfits
- only put accessories when it's necessary or important
Since my elimination, I've been observing the rest of Cycle 1, and the entire Cycle 2 and took mental notes of various advice from judges given to various contestants. And with those advice and my experience on designing helped me to get to where I am now, partaking on Cycle 3 with my no.1 model on the cycle, Abby.
I sincerely thank the judges for picking me as one of the contestants for the cycle, and for letting me learn a lot of fashion tips and advice. You helped me get here in this competition. emotion_bigheart

        Until the Flowers Bloom Again
        Designer :: Pianette
        Model :: Jiang Li
        Description ::
"After time passed // I thought everything would go back to its place
Something, anything // I wanted to hear from you"

And so she would wait, for one day he would return.
The seasons passed as she waited, time marching steadily onward.
By her second winter she was losing hope,
But then a letter arrived, penned by his hand:
"Past the end of this cold winter // Until the spring comes again // Until the flowers bloom again
Stay there a little longer // Stay there"

And so she would wait again, eager for that spring day when her prince would come ♡
        ---
I adore candygloss. I always have. I am sad gaia's never actually done anything else with that pink though (which they should).
That SAID, I've never done anything with candygloss outside of more casual outfits, which I found out today there, uh, there was a reason for that.
It's not a super formal scheme but I still wanted to try and make that work. And I feel like I accomplished that.
The overall look came out rather winter-y, but I consider candygloss to be a very winter type scheme.
I think the pops of pink, both in this outfit and in the scheme, give it a nice spring feel. Something akin to when the first flowers break out from beneath that early spring frost.
I think that's always a nice time of year and it's definitely nice to think about in this cold weather!

Rhinestone Pasture

Its a world where predator and prey can coexist and Stella of the ancient blue fleece finds it amazing, she is in a position of grand nature, ans keeps order among the beast-humans. She danced with the pinks of the sunsets, the white of the snows, and the blues of the waters. A truly splendid show

For this challenge i interpreted it as having to use candygloss colours, White, Blue, and Pink. Not necessarily the exact shades of the candy gloss scheme. I'm holding my breath and hoping my creativity served me well if this is not the case. To get the right colour on the sari, avi builder was glitching so i had to layer a lotus and amaranth sari and found that sweet berry compliments amaranth nicely. I originally had a silver for the white but then I of course needed to snap to my senses and remember SILVER =/= WHITE. The type of blue I had to come up with when I finally had white sweetberry and amaranth down was difficult but I knew I wanted something bright. Then while i was browsing the new items that had come out I came across The ancient colour scheme's blue. I had found what I wanted. Over all I'm happy with this look, I think it flows nicely and its vibe is very serene but royal.

Description: When I think of candygloss, I think of sugar and spice and everything nice, and what could be sweeter than a girl at a maid cafe bringing sweets for her adoring customers? Some of my favorite items are the meido cafe sets, so after I found an adorable neko maid headband I chose to go with the apron/dress and plate of desserts from two meido cafe sets. I added a few other items to complete the outfit and voila, dessert is ready!

My Familiar Furriends
Designer: Dangerous Tinfoil Shoes
Model: Bryce
Description: A witch who is a bit too shy for human company, Bryce spends her time playing with the her familiars, a group of feline ghosts who have yet to start their next life.

Process:
At first for this challenge I was a little worried about pink with Bryce's red hair but when I started trying things on I felt like Candygloss really works for her. I tried a few different ideas but I kept hitting roadblocks with items that were key to the look I wanted layering weirdly, until I tried the neko-opolis arms. I really liked the way Bryce's expression went with the pose and that's when I decided on this concept. Bryce gives off a sort of soft but mysterious vibe, so I wanted to go soft but not super cutesy; I gave her layered flouncy skirts to elevate the look a bit, plus bonus place for cat ghosts to hide and play. I also cycled through a few different legs and shoes before I settled on the boots because I felt they were more practical as someone who used to have cats who loved to attack feet. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out.

Candy Gloss Ringleader
Designer: The Dread Wolf
Model: Isabelle
Description:

Ladies and Gentlemen, children of all ages, welcome to the Candy Gloss Circus!

I was excited to be able use the candy gloss color scheme! It was a bit daunting trying to consider how to dress my model. However, I settled on a concept that I really enjoy. I love the circus, barring the potential animal abuse, so I decided to dress Isabelle up as a ringleader! Isabelle gives me vibes of a strong leader. I thought it would be apt that she would be a ringleader in a circus, rather than a clown or acrobat.

The most difficult part of creating this outfit was the general lack of candy gloss items. It took me a while to decide on a concept. When I saw the Cotton Candy Ringmaster hat, I knew I had to go with a circus concept! I had a lot of fun creating the coat/top, but I struggled with deciding what sort of bottoms Isabelle should wear. Since her coat is long, I settled on using Lori the Sweet Vamps' (Hot Pants), as the skirts I had considered layered awkwardly with the coat and did not compliment Isabelle's overall look. I also struggled with balancing the pink/blue/white around Isabelle's head. I think that layering the bow over the hat proved beneficial in creating a sense of balance.

Overall, I think that Isabelle does give off a Ringleader look. She does not have a typical whip, but whips are cruel! Instead, she has saccharine charm about her which brings one and all to the circus!

a queen crowned in starlight
designer: sufjan stebens
model: tara

description:
The Fairy Court is a dangerous place. A young queen, naive and inexperienced,
can quickly find herself in trouble. But the first step to being a good ruler is
looking like a good ruler. So she dons her crown set with morning stars
and drops of dew, and she adorns her hair with petals. She puts on her dress
of cobwebs and frost. She gives her reflection an uncertain smile, and she bravely
faces the day.

///

Candygloss is a very playful, youthful colour scheme. At first I fully intended to embrace that playfulness: lots of stripes and a very casual overall look. But even though I tried a lot of different combinations, they never looked right. It took me a while to realize that the problem was that the look just didn't suit Tara. The more fun her outfit was, the more severe her subtle smile appeared in contrast. She almost looked uncomfortable in the clothing.

So I scrapped the whole project and started over. I decided to make her into a queen, and I needed appropriately regal garments to match. The Floral Accord dress was perfect for what I had in mind, but I quickly realized that candygloss pink was not going to play nicely with the rest of my formal attire. It was very hard to find items that didn't turn the look into a child playing dress-up.

The resulting outfit is very subtle. It's mostly ivory, with delicate splashes of pink and blue to highlight the overall look. I really like the overall look, but I do wish Gaia offered more elegant candygloss items. I would have loved to include a candygloss pink beaded belt or some kimono sleeves.

Mom- *pinches cheeks* "We can come again, but its getting so close to your bedtime, see how high the moon is?"
*pets her head* "Hold my hand, we'll get some ice-cream on our way back, ok?"
    April- *softly whispers* 'Ohk' *yawns*

    Process-
I am afraid as my cousin's wedding is approaching, I might not get much time, so not a last minute entry this time XD
I just searched for the color scheme on avi builder and it made me think that this would be good for children's book. So I just put on overalls, played 'Ningyo Hime' soundtrack from Chobits on and created this whole avi around that.
The story in song is a bit sad and lonely and April already looks a bit sad and lonely. But as its about a child, I just couldnt bring myself to write that sort of story. Anything about lost child or loneliness would break my heart so I switched it to her just being a bit tired and sleepy instead and that she is walking towards her loving mother.
I really wondered about adding the background and if I am not doing this out of force of habit, but when I found this particular one it felt appropriate. Mirroring the children's story book, it made things seem bright and far off. Its a view we would expect from a child, while often adults focus on darkness of the forest, kids notice the fireflies.

Funfact- She doesnt seem really happy in smaller size, but as you zoom in, while the quality goes down but she appears to be smiling and adventurous! biggrin

    Glass of Bubbly
Come try these bubbles! They're sure to bring a
sparkle to your eyes and a blush to your cheeks!
Only available at the Ascot races!

    Designer: Darkerdemons
    Model: Rae
    Process: See Spoiler
Color scheme challenges have two components that I felt needed to be addressed during the avatar process: scheme/item overuse and making the avatar stand out.

    Color Scheme

Most color schemes have item lists. In the past I'd go to the item list, pick a bunch of items, and throw them together to make a cool look. My concern with this method was it could result in several models wearing the exact same items. I consulted scheme lists to help me determine which colors I wanted to use, but aimed to mix up schemes as much as possible.

I interpreted the challenge as 'using the colors from the candy gloss color scheme: pink, white, and blue' as opposed to 'must use candy gloss color scheme'. The bubblegum scheme ended up as the primary color scheme with other complimenting color schemes involved. Bubblegum seems appropriate not only because it matches the color requirement and has formal items suited to Rae's features, but it is also candy-related (the challenge is after all titled Glossy Candies as opposed to Pink/White/Blue).

Frequent feedback for an avatar with pale skin, pale hair, and pale outfit is that the result is washed out and stronger colors are suggested. To avoid this, I made sure Rae's outfit had splashes of strong colors (especially around her hair and face).

    Standing Out

With all the models wearing similar colors I am reminded of a clip from the movie My Fair Lady: "Ascot Gavotte" (Video Link). In this scene almost all the ladies are wearing black and white or gray and white while observing the horse races. Each of them has a very unique and memorable look despite wearing the same colors. I elected to try to my hand at making an outfit worthy of attending such an event.

The most striking feature of the outfit would be the hat. The hat needed to be big, superfluous, almost chaotic and yet still fashionable and elegant. Bubbly Beach Cute offered the perfect hat to start with, as it is large and has a nice curvy shape. From there I added and removed various combinations of head accessories. While the hat is big and superfluous, the rest of the outfit needed to be slimming and considerably less gaudy. Combining the slender dress from the Aetas and Eclipse items worked wonderfully; however, it left me with another challenge: masking the black material on the Aetas dress. Aetas is like an overdress - there aren't many items that layer on top of it. Finishing touches for the outfit included adding bows, sashes, and white gloves with a fancy beverage; all suitable accessories for attending the Ascot event.

After comparing Rae to the submitted entries, I decided she was not quite ready. I contemplated starting over with something drastically different (like a mermaid); however, I chose to try and improve the outfit instead. Many of my outfits have some sort of mood or story to them. Usually backgrounds and companions help me add the story. Most backgrounds seemed to clutter and take away from the avatar rather than add to Rae's outfit though. Reminded myself that the hat is supposed to be the focal point of Rae's avatar, not the gorgeous art nouveau backgrounds I almost selected. The plain blue backdrop with bubbles was simple and provided context: advertisement for a bubbly beverage. As a bonus, the background helped the avatar stand out better than against a white background.

    Reflection

I feel that I addressed two challenges that come with everyone following the same color scheme. The avatar sticks to the required colors without overusing one scheme. The avatar is similar to several other entries with fancy dresses, but has some unique characteristics.

I don't usually use a lot of layering and this avatar certainly gave me the chance to try out a more layered look. I am very happy with the result and hope for more chances to work with Rae.

Now... would anyone care for some bubbly?

    Title: 1,2,3, Kimchi!
Outfit Description/Process: Please bear with me, writing is not my strong suit. With that being said, here we go.......
Sienna's outfit was heavily influenced by Lolita and K-pop fashion. Candygloss, to me, is a very youthful and energetic color scheme and I wanted her look and pose to reflect that as well. I wanted her to look like she came straight from a fun, bubblegum pop music video and I feel like I accomplished that.
    ///////
Getting such a open theme for this challenge got my mind racing with ideas. I didn't have a clear concept at first so I created 5 outfit sets and took bits from each of them to create the look you see above. My main concern when curating this look was how I was going to blend the contrasting colors of my model and the Candygloss theme, because the blue/pink combination is usually associated with lighter skin tones and hair color. Throughout my design process I realized just how often I use the blonde hair/blue eyes with the Candygloss scheme but I feel I was able find the best shades of pink and blue to compliment Sienna's features.

Description: Like something out of a dream, I wanted to go with an ethereal look. If someone looks at her dressed like this and imagines this figure coming to you in a vision like some shimmering muse, then my job is complete. The arms are what made me think of her as a sage, and when I started combining the colours I realized that it gave her that mystical look, so I ran with it by using colours like "luminous" blue, and coral.

    Candy Quest!

    Description:
Who's to say you can't rock it on the way to the corner store for that guilty, rule-breaking, and yummy pleasure of your favorite candy?

Just because it's a quick run, (and the last one this week/month/year! I swear!) doesn't mean you can't look casually coquette and cheerleader-y sporty. The outfit is mostly inspired by that delicious hit of dopamine when we eat a favorite treat, and you can't really help that long, drawn out sigh of pleasure. Surely at some point, you'll regret it, but while we're at it, let's look good breaking all those candy rules.

    Frozen Treat
    Designer: elphiethesane
    Model: Ophelia

When I saw the challenge, I was immediately excited. Candygloss itself isn’t exactly my favorite scheme (I’m only so-so on pink/blue combinations), but I absolutely adore that shade of blue. To me it’s a perfect shade for a retro look, which I love doing, so of course I immediately decided to try going that route. Unfortunately when I tried, I ran into a problem… All my attempts just didn’t look right on Ophelia. It was too perky and peppy, and just didn’t go with her expression. I was attached to the idea, though, so I dug through every related color scheme, looking for any useable poses, hoping to find something to make it work.

While I was searching, though, I found that collar, and it made me start to consider a winter look. All I’d have to do is add it to a coat, or some other wintery outfit, but between me struggling to find wintery poses that didn’t use too much of an outside color and my ongoing attachment to the retro look I didn’t commit to it for a long time. Not until I found that particular coat pose, and it worked so well that I finally committed to the idea.

After that, everything fell pretty quickly into place. I’d toyed with that hat already and knew it didn’t sit strangely on her hair, and only hesitated to use it because it was so much pink in one area. But ultimately when I decided on the blue shoes, I felt the predominantly blue bottom balanced the heavy pink on top, even if it wasn’t evenly distributed like I usually aim for. Though I did throw in a pair of blue glasses on top of that to bring some more blue up there, with the added bonus that Ophelia looks pretty cute in glasses. And with just a hint of a skirt under her coat, I can imagine that she’s wearing a perfect retro dress underneath it!
