Ny wasn't exactly sure what she expected Koyuki's response to be. Would she be angry? Sad? Confused? Would she throw herself across the table and strangle her? She didn't know the woman anywhere near well enough to predict how her words would land, hence her apprehension. When Koyuki's reply came, Nyale sat quietly and listened. She was taken by surprise at how calm and thoughtful the woman's words were. And how compassionate. She doesn't feel any resentment to me at all? Ny thought, puzzled. It was more than she had hoped. This Koyuki was a different being entirely to the previous two times Ny had encountered her.
After Koyuki finished speaking the girl sat back, letting out a soft sigh and feeling some of the tension leave her body.
Her comments about doing the right thing regardless of how it made others feel had been an unexpected thing to hear. Ny pondered it, taking another polite sip of her coffee. "Somehow, when I try to do the right thing I always end up feeling like it's wrong at the same time" She admitted. "Makes it hard to know what is right"
From Koyuki's last comments it was obvious to Ny the guilt and trauma she felt, and how clearly weary to her very soul she was of everything. Although it was a relief to hear her say there was some value in being alive, and that Ny could rest easy about it, it was still profoundly sad. The weight had been lifted off her chest, yet it was bittersweet. Ny looked down at her lap.
"I'm sorry about all you endured because of the war, Ms Koyuki. I think you're wrong about one thing though - you haven't only caused harm" If that was the case, Riyel wouldn't be by her side, Yuki and Kalen wouldn't care about their mother so much, nor would the Trabian squad who seemed so devoted to her. It's never too late to choose a different path, too... Ny didn't say that out loud, not wanting to overstep too much.
"Thank you for hearing me out...and for being understanding" The young Sorceress remarked finally, her tone grateful. Seeing how the woman leaned against Riyel, Ny felt that perhaps it was a sign things would get better for her now. She truly wished they would. Although she had eased Nyale's conscience, whatever actions Koyuki took going forwards Ny would undoutedly feel some responsibility for too. "I hope you can find some peace" Her eyes met Riyel's with the unspoken request. Look after her, please?
Having been so focused on the conversation it was now that the girl finally noticed the mysterious dark figure lurking by the wall behind the pair, completely still. She squinted at him. Is he a guard? Something about the man made her skin crawl, though she couldn't say why. He wasn't familiar to her.

Rem pretended not to exist. Right up until Raeka said her name. The sound made her stomach slither. She shifted in her seat and continued to watch her chosen point on the wall.
”Thank you,” she managed. Her voice was as subdued and uncomfortable as the rest of her. ”I…apologize for any pain I’ve caused you and your partner, as well.”
That was it. No eye contact. No follow-up. They were not friends.

Perhaps he was too comfortable with the tomboy he was dating, or perhaps he hadn't moved past his frustrations with her family like he had imagined. Either way, she scratched a nerve. "Talk about insincere, you can't even look at me." Let's say simply that Raeka didn't believe her, or take her words to be genuine in the slightest.
"What, are you jealous of 'my partner'?" He asked with quotation marks. "Her name is Mai, your highness, you could at least address her properly." Raeka threw up a dismissive hand, turning his attention away from Rem and back to Kalen. "Sorry, brother, I'll catch you later. I've got footage of most of your fight, so when you want, you can relive it and see how badass you were." This whole thing twisted his gut, but it was a reminder as to why not to trust the Nipal family. Dishonest through and through, like mother like daughter.
Though his annoyance was clear, Raeka's exit was a relatively calm one. Perhaps it spoke to his sinister side, but he opened the door and stepped out like nothing was wrong. He would have to talk to Kalen some other time, when the b***h wasn't around. ____________________________________________________

Riyel observed with keen eyes, slowly analyzing the young woman that sat before himself and his wife. It was somewhat similar to what his wife had been thinking, delicate being a choice word, yet Riyel knew the past for this woman. Hell, he had been there when she earned the scars that were hidden by her attire at the ripe age of BABY. Nyale Laytos was very much akin to a bird, delicate by appearance but held a great ability within her. The age old wisdom of looks being far more deceiving than many would give credit. It would make sense, considering himself, his wife, and hell, even his son. Everyone worth their salt had more than what they let on, and it made sense that Nyale and Kalen were as close as friends as they were through that. Mind you, perhaps Kalen hadn't shown such ability most of his life but they were now on the precipice of troublesome times, and the revelation of his innate ability meant that he could not be coddled anymore.
He needs to finish what he started... The man had become lost in his own train of thought, closing his eyes in contemplation. I'll have someone send a message to Lisanna, if she'll have him. She was his Godmother, so it wasn't that far out of place for her to pull a few strings if need be.
Nyale's question though, was an attention seeking one. Both of his eyes opened, curiously at the inquiry of whether she did the proper thing or not. The question of taking a life... "I hated fighting." he stated bluntly, though not unkindly, "I hated the killing by the end of the War. I would have cared to never pick up a weapon again. The taking of life is something that many do without dwelling on the consequences. However, It kept the people I loved, alive. It's good that you're thinking about the merits of right or wrong, but also know that some things you don't need to apologize for after the fact. If I could have, I'd have apologized and probably will a thousand fold to Yuki and my family for everything I did." His arm went around Koyuki's shoulders and held her resting head, his free hand gently holding her free hand. "What's done is done and in the moment, you did the right thing. God knows I'm thankful for it, and I owe you tenfold."
His smile was pure, much like his sons, though it showed a sense of years of life that Nyale had yet to traverse. Hopefully, it would be nothing as treacherous as his journey had been. "No matter what happens now, I think my love here isn't absolutely miserable...though who knows, maybe she'll be sick of me in another day or so." He shot her a rueful and warm grin, squeezing her. "Most importantly, you did it for people you love and care for. That's the best thing you can do for anyone. I wouldn't want..." He sighed, thinking back on the war again as the memories flooded back. All the violence, and the destructive things he had to do in the name of war. "Something tells me Kalen has never killed anyone, and if that first person was his mother, regardless what their relationship is and was at the time...I wouldn't know what to do with that. If he's anything like me, he'd have shouldered that blame even if he wasn't directly involved."
His eyes locked on Nyale, the intense blue unwavering.
"Seriously, Nyale. Thank you."
The look he gave the small woman next to him was more than embodying the feelings that he felt that the woman was there alive with him. His blue eyes looked at Nyale and a small nod was all he could provide, she could almost hear and see Kalen doing something similar with a smart aleck ”OBVIOUSLY, Nya-Chan.”

Kalen could only sit there, mulling over what Raeka told him about Robin and Esthar. The young blonde had even sent out a few texts to Robin once he had fully awoken to try and see if she was okay, but there had been nothing. Troublesome... Was the only apt way to describe this particular dilemma. The things he did as that...wolf, were secondary as he worried about his Godsister. Grasping his phone, he reached out to text his Godfather Isaac to see if even he had heard from the large muscular redhead at all, if he responded. Kalen knew that his health was not doing the best.
However, the conversation shift to Raeka and Rem had a strange level of awkwardness that he could only guess was rooted in the scene he had come upon at the end of the concert. "Um...guys...?" he stated, a hand reaching up in fruitless effort as Raeka waved at him and stormed off. What the hell was that? He looked around at Rem, confused and even mouthed what he had thought. "Jesus, Rem, what the hell was all that about? I come in and see him choking you, and now...whatever the hell that was. It was like listening to mom debate with a galbadian politician..." The look of flabbergasted was more than accurate in describing the confusion on the freshly awoken young man's face. "I know you weren't insincere with your apology though...I've heard it when you're insincere. You'd have looked him dead in the eyes and thrown on that school girl scoff like you and Nami used to do when you were talking about school drama." Rem was definitely the preppy of the siblings, though he hoped the bringing up of a mortal enemy like Miss Nami La Almasy of Balaamb would get her out of whatever funk she was in.

Raeka’s words squeezed the remaining light out of Rem. She didn’t argue.
The door shut. The awkwardness lingered. Kalen would ask, of course. Wasn’t like she was filling the silence. Even so, the question made her grimace and sink further into her seat. Rem had gone from uncomfortable to miserable.
Dropping the name only made it worse.
”I did something bad,” she said. She leaned her head on a hand, rubbing her forehead. ”I don’t even know why.” First the magic, and then when she went to his hospital room...What had possessed her that night? Just thinking of it made her disgusted with herself. He’d actually come to apologize to her- to her!- and she’d ruined that, too!
She sucked in a deep breath to steady herself. It didn’t work.

The look on his sister's face had him up in arms, literally, as he tried shifting his entire body to move towards her. The burns hurt and his legs did not respond, resulting in a spin that almost sent him toppling off of the bed and to the floor. Almost. His arms grabbed the side of the bed, the banister of sorts, and held on as his legs dangled out of the bed momentarily, just as bandaged as they had been prior. "Tss..." he winced in slight pain and frustration, pulling himself to a seated position with his legs dangling there. A crisis averted. His hands reached out and grabbed her head, pulling her in for a hug. It was obvious that the last few days, let alone what her and Raeka were going through (whatever the hell THAT was), had been driving her slowly up the wall. It wasn't often that his words didn't help Rem out in some way, but it was apparent that bringing up Nami this time had been nothing but worsening of her condition. "You come in here asking about me, and I end up worrying over you." He murmured as he held her. "Almost like when we were kids, eh?"
He let go of her and looked her up and down. "You didn't do anything bad. I don't believe that. I believe it was a misunderstanding, probably, especially considering Raeka's apology was about as forced as yours was to him. You gotta stop accepting guilt over something you had no control over." That sounded right in his head, sighing as he pulled himself back a little further onto the cot and wincing at the pins and needles sensation. "Beaker is okay, right? Is he at the house?" Maybe changing the subject would be better, or Rem had something else she wanted to discuss.
"...what are we going to do now?" His face turned and peered out the window towards the sprawling city, half darkened with the ongoing smoke of the ruins it had become, "I can't just sit here anymore... I also can't let that...that thing..." He paused, measuring and placing his thoughts proper. "Have you heard anything about...them?" Koyuki Vicaria and Riyel Vicaria. HIs mother and father. It felt too odd to even say out loud. Nona and Lloyd had been his mother and father...the appearance of one and the resurrection of another had done nothing more than confuse a young man who thought he had the answers to everything upon his return to UNITA.

Kalen startled Rem, who immediately snapped up and raised her arms to catch him. He caught himself. But it did put them at the perfect angle for Kalen to see his sister’s miserable face. He pulled her close, and Rem sank into the hug. Her arms wrapped around his waist, weak and warm. She didn’t let go until he did.
She sank back into her chair once released. He tried to sooth her, but not an ounce of the misery left her face.
”He’s worried about you,” Rem answered. ”I had to give him some curiel greens to get him to sleep.” And a good brushing, and soothing talk.
Rem followed his gaze out the window. Gainsborough Hospital was one of the taller buildings in Eden. She didn’t have an answer for him by the time he changed the topic to…them. Of course.
”They’re in holding. Keeping…Keeping an eye on her,” she said, avoiding names just like Kalen. She wanted to give him more, but she didn’t have it. Nona Nipal was smart enough not to entrust state secrets to a nineteen-year-old, no matter how much faith she had in her daughter. Her troubled eyes searched the horizon for answers.
”I think…you’ll need to speak to them before you can decide what to do,” she said, the words coming out awkwardly. Rem knew her brother. Koyuki and Riyel Vicaria had lived in his mind his entire life. After the horror of what his birth mother had done and the shock of seeing his father return to the living world, Kalen had a lot to figure out. A lot that might take him away from her. Again.
There was very little else to say in regards to the situation. Nyale, all but seemingly satisfied by the answers she got. Riyel's words and loving affection as he spoke with Nyale brought some semblance of peace and bliss to the otherwise cold woman. She closed her eyes as she listened to his heartbeat, and even reached an arm around him, holding him. Likely the first time anyone would have seen her show any kind of affection, apart from the very rare affection to Kalen.
Just as Nyale was departing, however, Koyuki spoke up to her again. "I do not know what the future holds, Nyale, but I want you to take what I say to heart. Do not apologize or feel guilty for doing what you think is right. As a sorceress, doing what you feel is the right thing is important. Your choices shape your very being. Protect your heart. It is the most important piece of you." She then opened her eyes, looking up at Riyel. "And find someone to share yourself with, that can hold you up when you can't do it yourself. Someone more than just a friend to you. Loneliness for a sorceress is deadlier than any monster."
After that, she slowly got up from her seat, making her way over with Riyel to the exit. She was finished with the conversation. She was still tired, and the innate nature of being a monster made being around people still difficult. For as much as she did play off being calm and collected, there was still this deep rooted desire to hurt anyone. She still maintained her humanity and reason, having been knocked out of her bloodlust. The only questions she had on her mind was, if she was a monster now, did that mean she could be manipulated by the will of others? Was that why she went berserk? Or did the injections have a trigger?

There was nothing to be happy about, and he knew it. He held onto the hug, trying to will whatever was bothering his sister out of her like an exorcism. It did not work. The look on her face was drab, droll, a mixture of exhaustion and whatever else was stuck in her craw. Normally she'd tell him anything, even if he had to pry just a little bit. Here, she had the addition of being completely down and impervious to his normally witty charms that worked on his family. It must be bad...whatever it is... The acknowledgement of Beaker being well taken care of brought some solace to the questions he was throwing at her ad nauseum. There wasn't much he could do. In the time he had been awake, it had really only been speaking to nurses and doctors and even then, it had been just a rainfall of questions that brought him back to being in school.
"Thank you for taking care of him as always..." His voice murmured, deep in his own introspection, "He loves you and Mae the most, I just hope he wasn't too banged up after everything." Beaker was not tested in combat either, despite having the trained skills for Choco-Fu. The meeting with Kaijuu and various monsters were only icing on the cake of unprepared that they both decided to partake in.
Rem continued to breeze through his questions, in a political sense. It made sense to him that she didn't know everything, only the base details. However, he could feel the apprehension and...something else in her voice there. Like she was still safeguarding him from something that was not clear to him. It only forced Kalen to purse his lips and lean forward, a hand on her shoulder as he balanced himself. AT that moment they were eye to eye, the glimmer in his eyes still shining bright but only complementing the serious expression that dressed itself upon his face. She was hiding a few things from him, and her statement about deciding what to do gave him an inkling of what it might be about.
"Do you hate me...for leaving?" It was simple, direct, and blunt. It was not a normal question that she would have expected from her brother, especially in that manner. All that he was giving was a stern seriousness at the question, Rem knowing that she wouldn't be able to dance around it. "Ever since I've been back, you've had a strange air around you whenever she's around or brought up. Sometimes I catch you looking at me like I did something wrong, and didn't apologize. So what is it." He leaned back, adjusting himself on the bed while giving a sour look at his legs. It was obvious that he wasn't happy with the predicament he was in.

Ny listened intently as Riyel spoke, her expression thoughtful. It was interesting to hear his thoughts on the war, and the necessity of taking lives. And she agreed with him that Kalen's first kill being his mother would have been devastating. Seeing his mom and dad together was also strange, in a way, as they both appeared so different. Riyel was open and talkative, with a cheerful and affectionate way about him, where Koyuki was more closed off and serious. How did such an opposing pair end up together? Ny was curious. And yet, Koyuki did show some gentle affection too, the girl noticed. She had the sense that very few people ever saw this softer side of Kalen and Yuki's mom.
When Riyel offered his thanks she felt her cheeks go red. "Y-Yeah..." She replied, shifting in her seat and not really knowing how to respond to that. "You don't owe me. What goes around, and all that..." She mumbled. Riyel would know she was referring to the past, when he'd helped her and her mother long ago. Ny found herself pulled into the man's gaze, noticing for the first time how his eyes were the same vibrant blue as Kalens.
Her attention turned to Koyuki again as the woman spoke. Her last words were clearly heartfelt, sounding like she was speaking from personal experience, and Ny nodded along. "You've both given me a lot to consider. I appreciate the guidance" She finally offered a shy but warm smile as the pair got up to leave. It seemed the conversation was over. Ny still had things she was curious about regarding the two of them, but she had achieved her main objective in going there so she was happy with that. Better to let Koyuki go and rest, no doubt, and let them enjoy their time together.
"...take care, Ms Koyuki. Riyel. Hope we meet again"
When Koyuki had gone the Sorceress stood up and made for the door on her side, which was being unlocked by Varitas. She noticed Riyel had stopped before leaving though, and looked back at him with a questioning expression.

Kalen Vicaria knew his sister.
He made her look at him. She only looked worse, forced to look him in the eye. She wanted to hide. But she wouldn’t lie to him. Not to him.
”...I did,” she answered, her voice small and tired and hurt. ”Kal, I…” she started, faltered, and searched for words. She managed, eventually. ”Ever since I was old enough to understand, I was afraid you’d leave. Like…Like I wasn’t your real sister. Like we weren’t your real family. Like…Like we weren’t enough. That day she…That day your…mother showed up, I was terrified you’d leave with her.” Kalen could hear the tightness in her voice. See the quiver in her eyes. Rem would have been crying if she had any more tears in her. ”And when you did leave…” She gave a helpless shrug.
”I don’t. Not now,” she promised, forcing the conviction into her voice. She reached up and put her hand on top of the one on her shoulder. He needed to know. She needed him to know. ”It’s what you needed.” Her hand squeezed.
”I love you, Kalen. You’re my only big brother.”
She had never, ever admitted that he was the eldest sibling.
And with that, the egg cracked. She needed him. She needed her big brother. Every muscle in her face quivered, and when she spoke it was with the cracking voice of a woman at the edge of a breakdown.
”Mama’s gonna hate me.”
Those four words shattered the last of what composure Rem had. She sank onto the bed, fingers clutching at the sheets over Kalen’s legs as she began to shudder and shake, her body heaving with sobs it could no longer manage.

Riyel looked down towards Koyuki. Her face was like porcelain, and it was emoting to anyone in the room with about the equivalency of a porcelain doll as well. It didn't stall him from seeing underneath that cold layer. Her plain gaze was almost akin to making sure he was still there, but of course he was. Where else would he go? Almost like she could hear his thoughts, her arm snaked its way around his waist to which he could only hold her a little tighter for it. I'm not goin' anywhere babe. No way he'd stay anywhere other than right here with her, no hotel would allow him to sleep soundly at night leaving her alone like that. She needed him now more so than ever.
He only nodded his head as his wife came to a stand, following in her shadow as they walked to the door. His hand was in hers as she slipped outside, though he looked at the Trabian Four who stood waiting and let go of his wife's hand for just a moment at the threshold of the door. "One sec, dear." It was obvious he had something else to say to the girl in the conference room, closing the door for a moment before looking turning. His warm expression had faded, one of concern and apprehension, but still holding a fearless as he analyzed her. A deep sigh of contemplation came over him, eyes closing before flashing back open looking past Nyale's form and hard at the back wall.
"Nyale..." He began, crackling his knuckles in thought, "I need you to get a message to your mother for me, a favor if I'm being honest." He stepped forward towards the table and leaned on a chair as he looked down at her while standing. A glance analyzed what the girl thought he might ask, before a grin tried to disarm her from whatever she thought it might be. "Whatever happened a few days ago isn't going to be the only time. I've got a feeling...a hunch, that things are going to get worse. I can be here for my wife, and to help out with UNITA...but my mini-me has to high tail it out of here." He stood up, moving towards the door and peering out to check on his wife for a moment. "She's too caught up on this to really think about Kalen, I think, so I'm going to make an executive decision and at least ask. Can you ask your mother if she'll take her Godson back and let him go through his SeeD examinations? I'll tell him myself, but...he needs this. Kid can't just be an author anymore, and now that he's shown what he's got under the hood..." Obviously a metaphor for the War Wolf within, "He's going to want to be more involved than ever...and he needs the training for it. That thing is dangerous."
He leaned against the door now, eyes staring directly at her. "You're his best friend. You know he won't want to sit at home, and now its dangerous. Monsters and...what my darling wife became... I need you to watch his back, just as he'll watch yours. I know he'd give anything to protect you, Rem, or Yukiko. But I trust you to know what's best for him...and for you to watch out for each other. I can only trust Winhill because I'm from there. UNITA is...crippled at the moment. " With that he opened the door and walked out, not before turning and giving her one last look. "I'll owe you double."

He felt the air get sucked out of him at her answer. Blue eyes looked around, almost frenetically, at the reply and it was only exacerbated at the sudden guilt that sprang over him like a river breaking free of a dam. All because he left? "I..." There was really no response he could have come up with to follow that. Part of Kalen wanted to feel betrayed, but as she spoke that want turned into further guilt for that want. It finally made more sense, all the years of growing and the look Rem would give the letters that Koyuki Rieko had written him upon delivery. It was a sharp look, like looking at a fox that was trying to get in the chicken coop. The way she'd look at news regarding Trabia, specifically with Koyuki on stage giving any form of statement or speech. It all stemmed from there, and due to his unwillingness to cut her out of his life.
What was he supposed to do? That was his birth mother. Many a discussion, sometimes an argument, would come between his mother, Nona, and himself over the subject, especially as he had gotten older and a bit more rebellious and mouthy. To Kalen, Koyuki Rieko was the one connection he had to a father that hadn't existed...at least the time. Now, it was made even more complicated because it seemed that you couldn't get near that man, Riyel Vicaria without Koyuki Rieko being next to him. Kalen understood it, but it made the complicated feelings all the more difficult to decipher. Was he wrong for feeling that way towards his birth mother and his birth father? Kalen did not think so.
Rem continued to speak and Kalen, for once, did not respond and just listened. Part of him retreated deep in himself, hiding the mixed feelings he had about what she had unveiled, and part of him listened and understood. There was no way for him to respond, the response caught in the depths of his throat. Rem was a mess, tears building in her eyes and her voice doing the best to masquerade whatever was bothering her. Her hand touched his, and he nodded, albeit slowly, understanding her retraction of sorts.
And then the dam broke on Rem's end.
She burst into tears, her confession that he was eldest seeming unimportant in comparison to whatever was bothering her. Kalen pulled himself to the ground, gritting his teeth at the pins and needles, and pulled his little sister into a hug, hushing her gently as he hugged her like he had for years when something was bothering her.
"Remington Nipal, you are my sister. Nona and Lloyd Nipal are my de facto parents, as stated in UNITA court of law. Yukiko, Jae, Mae, and Sou-hi are our siblings. You've always been enough, and you ARE my real family. Koyuki Rieko may be my birth mother...and...he...might be my birth father, but that doesn't undo who you are to me." His hand gripped, remembering the day his birth mother had come. The day he fought with Eisei, the day he had broken the large television in his room out of anger. The scars still remained there. "And you're damn straight I'm the big brother..." This response was gentle, rubbing her back to try and alleviate whatever stress she was feeling.
"What a stupid thing to say. Why would mom hate you? You're her MINI ME. Nothing gets between that, and you're dreaming if you think any different." his face got serious, looking at her again like he had before she cracked, directly eye to eye. "Why the hell would you say that?"
"This lass is troubled, young ward!" The voice rumbled loudly and braggadocios by nature, "Your sibling requires therapy!"

Ny blinked as Riyel launched into his speech. "A message to my mother...?" She repeated slowly, tilting her head in confusion. She went quiet to listen carefully as he continued speaking. It was worrying to think that things could get any worse, so when he made the request for Kalen to return to Winhill to finish his SeeD exams the girl exhaled anxiously and gave a swift nod.
"Yes...I think that would be a wise decision, sir. He needs to be able to fight and control himself properly, if this attack on Eden is anything to go by. I'll feel better too if he graduates, knowing he'll have had all the training he needs to defend himself" She remarked, thinking it over. "It's, um, not customary at Winhill for someone who dropped out to be allowed to re-sit the exams...but these are strange times, so I'm sure my mother would make an exception"
Riyel's stare was intense, but Ny met his gaze evenly. "As you say, he's my best friend. So I will watch out for him, sir, I promise you that. No matter how bad things get" She stated. Hopefully he would see that she meant it. And then the man was gone, disappearing at last out the door. Nyale bit her lip, feeling suddenly much more anxious, and then made her own way out of the door past Varitas.
After exiting out of the research facility into the street the girl pulled out her phone and quickly texted her mother, asking to speak to her as soon as possible. Once that was done Ny started walking. She had no direction or destination in mind, simply mulling over the conversation as she meandered along.
"Loneliness for a Sorceress is deadlier than any monster huh..." She muttered, shoving her hands in her pockets and frowning. It was something she tried not to think about, but she realised she was lonely. Her mother was often busy, and her father was so emotionally distant she rarely sought his guidance or company. Her brother had gone away to Esthar long ago, and Rae was with his girlfriend most of the time. And Salem...she was pretty sure her uncle just thought she was a nuisance. He rarely seemed to want to speak to her.
As she waited for her mother to text back Ny found herself arriving at a riverbank and flopped down onto the grass, looking out over the water pensively.
