Bellgrape Rise.Of.The.Dead Ok, here listen to my extreemly stupid question... what's an OVA?... yes I know I sound like an idiot but I seriously don't know. As for as the 2... I always thought they were the same. Is ok to ask, that's the way you are going to learn 3nodding Anyway here the definition of OVA wikipedia Original Video Animation (オリジナルビデオアニメ, Orijinaru Bideo Anime?) or OVA is an acronym used in Japan for anime titles that are released directly to retail sale, without prior showings on TV or in theaters. OVA is sometimes used, perhaps inappropriately, to refer to any extremely short anime series or special regardless of its release format. And i also always thought that the ovas and the anime were the same thing, even if they are in diferent tones. 3nodding thank you.

there's still people arguing about this? I mean of course they're different. Watsuki had no say in Reflections and little say in Trust and Betrayal.

Shinobi 1977 To me, Samurai X is the OVAs and RuroKen is the anime. The OVAs are a dark, angst-ridden version of Watsuki's story with all the humor and hopeful spirit stripped out. I totally agree with you. But in ways Samurai X is way more emotional. Way more blood and pretty much for hardcore fans...

They're absolutely the same -world- and the same -anime-. There's just a different atmosphere between the two. Life was completely different ten years prior to the Rurouni Kenshin series, and the OVAs are a take on what Kenshin's life was like back then. Basically just the interworkings of Kenshin's mind, really. o_O Same story, same anime.

Personally, I really adore the OVA's. It is the real core of the what I think was Watsuki-sama's true intension of the story. It gave the reason why he was a manslayer, why he no longer was one, and the aftermath of his life as a wanderer. The transition in the OVA absolutely amazes me and as what was said before...it was for the hardcore fans.

It was much more authentic then the floopy Rurouni Kenshin anime series because it revealed the back story on which RK was built.
We seem to be talking about two different OVAs. Is this topic about the trip down memory lane or something else?
