Calixto From tvguide.com: " We've got good news for fans of Sci Fi's Stargate SG-1 and great news for fans of Farscape: TV Guide Online has learned exclusively that when SG-1 begins its ninth season, Farscape hunk Ben Browder will join the long-running series as a regular. In the meantime, the show is continuing its efforts to hammer out a deal to keep erstwhile MacGyver Richard Dean Anderson (who has been with SG-1 since its 1997 debut) on board, at least in a limited capacity. Whatever happens when all the moondust settles, SG-1 returns to finish out its eighth season on Jan. 21, when it will take over the 8 pm/ET time slot to accommodate the addition of Battlestar Galactica to the net's lineup at 10.
More Info about Browder's character!
Wright reveals Browder, Season Nine plans WEDNESDAY - DECEMBER 22, 2004 Executive producer Brad Wright answered many nagging questions about the future of Stargate SG-1 in today's installment of Chicago Tribune columnist Maureen Ryan's "The Watcher" -- including new details on actor Ben Browder's new character.
"He's the F-302 pilot (our Earth-designed space fighter) that led the squadron that fought Anubis in Antarctica," Wright revealed. The climactic battle took place in the Season Seven finale, "Lost City, Part 2." "He was badly injured when his fighter crashed, nearly killed -- but was was promised a place on SG-1 if he made it back to fighting form." Executive producer Robert C. Cooper recently said that the character has played a role in SG-1's past, which will be shown on-screen through flashbacks (story). The character's intended name has not yet been cleared through legal channels.
What about comparisons made by some between Browder and SG-1 co-star Michael Shanks, who many say look alike? The two characters won't be related, and "once we've shaved Ben's head it will be far easier to tell them apart," Wright joked. "We'll come up with something. I'm not worried about it."
The producer is also unconcerned with comparisons that might arise between the new character and John Crichton, the character Browder played for four years on Farscape -- originally Stargate's companion series on Friday nights when the show moved to The SCI FI Channel in 2002. "SG-1 is a unit of the U.S. Air Force and so he should be an officer, but it's a very different show. ... I think Claudia [Black, 'Vala'] and Ben should bring a few Farscape fans aboard, but that's not why we're doing this. They're great actors."
"Claudia has already proven herself on our show," Wright said. Black appears in the upcoming Season Eight episode "Prometheus Unbound," and will appear alongside Browder in a 5-episode arc in early Season Nine (story).
Wright also confirmed to the Tribune that Browder's deal as a series regular means that he will appear in the entire, 20-episode season -- and, should the show continue to an astonishing tenth year, Browder would continue as well.
"Season Nine will have a new beginning with a new enemy," Wright said. "I think once you've seen the end of Season Eight you'll understand why we're doing that. Yes, I hope there will be crossover between the two series [SG-1 and Atlantis]. I have an idea, but I'm still working it out."
In the full interview, Wright also talks about Richard Dean Anderson's reduced role, what led to Browder's casting, and whether Season Nine will include more off-world stories. Check it out at ChicagoTribune.com!

Quote: From Gateworld.net: New season premieres come up threes MONDAY - FEBRUARY 28, 2005 The ninth season of Stargate SG-1 will begin with a 3-part episode, executive producer Joseph Mallozzi revealed in a message at GateWorld Forum. Companion show Stargate Atlantis will debut with "The Siege, Part 3," finishing up the story begun with Season One's 2-part finale. Beware of some spoilers in the report below. Little is currently known about the SG-1 Season Nine premiere, but the episodes will introduce new regular characters Lieutenant Colonel Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) and General Hank Landry (Beau Bridges). Vala (Claudia Black) will also return for the first five episodes of the season. The bounty hunter made her debut in Season Eight's "Prometheus Unbound." Personal and professional issues will take Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) away from the S.G.C. for a few months. Tapping, whose baby is due next month, is expected to return full-time for the sixth episode of the season. Actress April Telek has been cast as a character named "Sallis" for the Season Nine premiere's second and third installments, according to the Internet Movie Database. Season Nine will introduce a new enemy, and fans reporting from this past weekend's official Stargate convention in Dallas, Texas tell us that they have a name: the Oree. Actor Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson") reportedly told attendees that the beings are essentially Ancients who have turned evil. Enemies old and new will be featured in the second season of Stargate Atlantis, starting of course with the central series baddies, the Wraith. "We'll be learning a lot more about the Wraith in the coming year," Mallozzi told fans at GateWorld Forum. The writers have also discussed a storyline involving the race that engineered the nanovirus ("Hot Zone"). "Hopefully, [we] will see them make an appearance in the second half of Season Two," Mallozzi said. "We'll [also] be finding out a lot more about the Ancients in Season Two. ... Brad [Wright] and Robert [Cooper, executive producers] have a whole, intricate backstory for the Ancients that they're sharing with us piecemeal over the course of the year." "The Siege, Part 1" airs Friday, March 18 on The SCI FI Channel. The new seasons will begin this summer!

Quote: Gateworld.net: New seasons begin filming in Vancouver MONDAY - FEBRUARY 28, 2005 Another year of adventures is underway at The Bridge Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia! The casts and crews of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis reportedly returned today for the first official day of production on the two shows' ninth and second seasons, respectively. New cast members Ben Browder and Beau Bridges join SG-1 on Stage 5 this season, alongside Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson") and Christopher Judge ("Teal'c"). With her baby due in just a matter of weeks, Amanda Tapping ("Samantha Carter") is expected to return to the show for the sixth episode. Meanwhile, the first five episodes will feature guest star Claudia Black, who reprises her role of the alien bounty hunter Vala ("Prometheus Unbound"). No info is available yet on the storyline for the 3-part season premiere. Former series lead Richard Dean Anderson ("Jack O'Neill") will not return as a series regular for the first time in the show's long history, though he may appear as a guest star in an undetermined number of episodes. Negotiations between the actor and the studio are ongoing. On Stage 6 Atlantis returns to wrap up the current season's finale with "The Siege, Part 3." New cast member Jason Momoa will join the show in "Runner," expected to be the third episode of the new season. Executive producer Robert C. Cooper will continue as show-runner on SG-1, and series co-creator Brad Wright will keep the same job on Atlantis. A single writing department will continue to work on both shows, which also includes executive producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, writer/director Peter DeLuise, supervising producer Damian Kindler, and Atlantis scribes Martin Gero and newcomer Carl Binder ("Before I Sleep"). Both series will make their premieres this summer on The SCI FI Channel in the U.S., and on Sky One in the U.K. this fall. The production year is scheduled to continue through October 17.

Quote: Gateworld.net Mallozzi unveils new episode titles SATURDAY - MARCH 5, 2005 Stargate SG-1's ninth season will begin with a 3-part episode titled "Avalon," executive producer Joseph Mallozzi revealed today to fans at GateWorld Forum. Mallozzi also shared the working titles for other episodes of SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis currently in development. Both series are now filming in Vancouver, B.C. for a summer premiere on The SCI FI Channel. "Avalon" will apparently take Stargate into the realm of Arthurian mythology for the first time ever. Written by show-runner Robert C. Cooper and directed by Andy Mikita, "Avalon" will introduce new series regulars Lieutenant Colonel Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) and General Hank Landry (Beau Bridges). The episode will also bring "a challenge for Daniel on two fronts, a dilemma for Teal'c, the return of an old friend, a couple of major revelations regarding the Ancients, a fearsome new villain ... to name just a few things," Mallozzi said. "The Ties That Bind" will follow the 3-part season premiere (story), written by Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, and directed by Will Waring. "As for the new doctor [played by Andromeda's Lexa Doig], her name is Carolyn Lam. She is at the top of her field -- intelligent, quick-witted, and she doesn't take guff from anyone." Stargate Atlantis's sophomore season premiere wraps up the cliffhanger season finale with "The Siege, Part 3," written by Martin Gero and directed by Martin Wood. "The hive ships have arrived and Atlantis is up against [a wall]. How the heck will they get out of this one?" "Provided the base is not obliterated at episode's end, we'll be moving on to 'Intruder,' written by Paul Mullie and Joseph Mallozzi, directed by Peter DeLuise, produced by Paul Mullie and Joseph Mallozzi. The events of 'Siege III' are going to have wide-raging effects, effecting both individuals and Atlantis as a whole -- new faces, a new dynamic, and ... an intruder." "Runner," written by Robert C. Cooper, should air as the third episode of the season and will introduce Ronon Dex, a new series regular played by Jason Momoa. "Don't mess with him," Mallozzi warned. New Atlantis scribe Carl Binder has "hit the ground running" with an episode titled "Aurora." Martin Gero is also writing "Duet" for Atlantis, as well as his first Stargate SG-1 script. And Damian Kindler has pitched in on Atlantis with "Trinity." "Some of the episodes that will be seeing the light of day (but some of the episode titles that won't) include: The Clone/Not the Clone Story, Ex Deux Machina, Remembrance of Things Past, and Beachhead." We'll keep tabs on all of these episodes in our Season Nine and Season Two episode guides as they move through the production pipeline. "The dailies look great," Mallozzi added. "We're very excited about the stories we're telling (and will be telling), and equally excited about the terrific job the casts of both shows are doing (both established and new faces)."
