Only in a few [totally INSANE] languages is there ever such thing as a soft "G" -- it's always hard, like in goggle.
ai is typically a diphthong, a fluid between the two sounds "ah" and "ee". Say those two sounds quickly and you'll get a sound like the English word I.
Tack on another "ah" and there you have your pronunciation.

Gachetemas I have been wondering how this word is pronounced. It looks like it should be GUY uh, and I think the goddess can be either JEE uh or GAY uh, and can be spelled Gaea. In my mind it is either of the first two. What do you think? I've heard people say it Guy-eh-a, but I have heard of Jee-uh. I say, like most others, Guy-uh.

It irritates me that Gaia (guy-ah) won't allow me to put it into IPA for you, which would clear up any and all mispronunciations of anything EVER.
It really does irk me something fierce. gonk

I've read my dictionary, though. You might want to double-check. Latin must have borrowed some Greek words like geography and genital.

The original Latin and Greek pronunciation schemes were VERY regular.

It seems the majority vote goes to GUY-ah. I agree completely.

My friend, my brother, and myself say it as "GUY-uh".
I've never really thought of any other way to say it.
