The background in Nancy ( and Ron ) is an unclear blob of dark shading that has no importance to the picture, except to make the bride’s gown and white skin stand out all the more. This photograph uses light values to show youthfulness, while in Noise the light values draw our attention to the streets of Toronto. We actually have to focus in on the medium tones to find our subject. In one photo the blacks and dark hues add depth to the point of interest, in the other their purpose is to provide a contrast in personalities.

I was editing my horribly written comparison essay for English. You know, I'm normally a good writer but spitting essays out three times a week is actually hurting my craft, not helping it. -___-;
