Unsettling Dreams

A shrill cry echoed around the house, a raven's shriek, while more could be heard cawing in the distance. The full moon rose high in the night, the eerily cold light shining through the second story window of a quiet, darkened house, the beams lighting on the face of a dark skinned baby sleeping fitfully in his crib, little strings and random objects hanging from the bars, an occasional glint in the moonlight betraying their usual shine.

Blackfell mumbled softly in his sleep, a baby's incomprehensible gibberish. His black curls were matted to his forehead by damp sweat, despite the comfortably chilly air in the room. The baby was tossing and turning restlessly, a frown creasing his face as an occasional whimper manifested, bizarre dreams filling his little head, certainly not dreams full of approaching suger plum fairies or presents under a christmas tree that would soon be set up.

His head and dreams were a whole mixture of confusion and random images. Flashes. Bursts of light. Faces he didn't know or recognize, but somehow they still seemed familiar, in a way his young mind couldn't fully comprehend. Who were they?

A face, his face, but at the same time, not his. Dark skinned, with gleaming gold eyes and a wicked grin, with tumbling black curls and heavy black wings. So familar... Darkness.

Another flash.

A lady's face, this one, he couldn't recognize, but again, there was that small sense of familiarity that he couldn't find the source for, leaving him greatly confused. Dark skin, dark hair, with a dark beauty around her crooked smile, even as a shadow appeared behind her, two small sparks for eyes in the middle of it...

Another flash. A gleaming jewel, vivid crystal blue, the light reflecting on it's surface throwing rainbows across the walls in dazzling splatters, illuminated walls covered in chains and barbs and traps, while a pair of gloved hands reached forward to grab it.

Bolting awake, the baby started crying, his wail piercing the calm silence that had surrounded the house...

A New Look

More bizarre dreams that frightened a small child. A dark skinned, familiar face. A familiar woman's face. A glowing crystal. Piercing pain, then blackness.

Fell woke up with a start in his crib, his gold eyes wide in his brown face, black curls scattered in his eyes, his hands propping his torso up off the blanket. His arms and body in general felt numb, like they had fallen asleep. Ignoring, of course, the fact he had just been asleep. He put a hand to his forehead, wincing slightly at the tingling pins-and-needles as he felt his skin. Warm to the touch. His hand seemed less chubby, too.

Fell threw his blanket off him and looked at himself. I'm bigger. He thought in surprise; he didn't look like a baby anymore. Not as chubby, his limbs were longer. Putting a hand up to feel his face, there was still some fat there, but not as much. His hair was longer too, and his wings were bigger. Not entirely sure what happened, Fell awkwardly stood up, used to crawling on his hands and knees. Clumsily unlatching the side of the crib, he carefully climbed down, making his way to his mother's room for a midnight surprise.

With Ean

Two of a Feather

Satin Regret
It was fairly chilly out, the middle of winter after all. The ground was covered in a light layer of snow, the good kind. A little soft, not frozen over, and the sort that stuck together, making for good snowballs. The trees were bare of leaves, but the paths in the parks were fairly well shoveled. The benches had thin layers of snow, and the playground was covered with a number of children who had dragged their parents out to play.

Two siblings, a teenager and a young child, were present as well. Their mother, the sun-loving Niko, had decided to stay home, due to her hate of snow and cold. Zuko and Fell, though, had decided to wander outside. Fell, much bigger then he used to be, was riding gleefully on his older brother's shoulders, a little hand wrapped around one of Zuko's ram horns.

Zuko was indulging Fell, as he was his only little brother after all. Better then leaving him with Sere, who would be more likely to go be moody somewhere, or Aqua, who would forget the moment she saw something interesting.

They were approaching the playground, Fell jumping off Zuko's shoulders with a helpful flap of his wings, clambering up one of the cold metal ladders in his puffy winter jacket and gloves.

Aaron Arrikanez
Ean was in that selfsame park, crouched low in the hollow of one of the trees beside the path. He was about a foot away from the teen and toddler when he slid from the space, like smoke or mist, and stood before them on the path. There was something odd about him the moment one looked at him. He was a toddler, as Fell was, but he seemed so much older. There was a chilled feeling in the air that had nothing to do with the snow. As if that patch of path had grown colder on its own. The boy seemed to be listening to something, but made no reply to it, tilting his head a little to one side to eye the teen, almost like he was sizing him up. That done, he backed away, but only a few feet, and continued to watch. Whether or not he would continue down the path was unknown, but Ean's eyes stalked the two better than anyone on foot, and those eyes held... not malice... but something dark and intangible. Something soft, but chilling.. and terrifying. Ean seemed not to notice or care - only smiled - a sweet, sad little quirk of his lips - before waiting for any action taken by the others.

Satin Regret
Zuko smiled fondly at his little brother as Fell swung across the monkey bars, quite nimbly, swinging around on his hands and with his legs. Trusting the toddler not to dash his brains out on the ground, Zuko took a moment to look around, maybe for some pretty women to cozy up to. It was then that his purple-gold gaze fell on a little child, person. The body of someone Fell's age, but he looked older, kinda creepy. And he hadn't been there before.

Stopping a frown from forming on his face, he crouched down, his tail out behind him to keep himself balanced, his wings folded to his shoulders. "Hullo there." He said with a smile, also attracting Fell's attention.

When he heard his brother speak, the raven child turned to look at him, seeing the other boy near him, and quietly dropped from the bars, literally hoppig in two legged bounds over to them, a broad grin on his face. "Ha-lo!"

Aaron Arrikanez
The boy's eyes glowed - literally - for a moment or two, then the glow died, and the smile took on a more sinister nature. His eyes met Blackfell's, and a soft chuckle escaped his lips - far too much 'humor' for a child of his apparent age. He began to speak - but it was in rhyme. Morbid rhyme at that... it could have been a greeting... or a warning... who knew?

"Chosen dreams fall in the gray, night will whisper to the day. Silent snowflake, silent creeping, bitter taste of someone weeping. Look upon it, fear it's crying, ever falling, ever dying. Blood red water through the seas, plague be not the sole disease. Writhing trees moan in the wood, none of this can come to good. Eyes that burn like embers bright, demon's friend, and dark delight. Longer slumber, seek desire, thrown again into the fire. Speak the words of hidden meaning, sinister, though friendly seeming. Fear the one who tells the tale, fight it hard by tooth and nail. Show no anger, show no fear. Only ice has settled here."

His piece spoken, he fell silent, eyes once more glinted in some hidden mirth as he remained perfectly still. Waiting for the one who had approached him to fall, flee, or laugh. Either one would have been fine.
~Lucias... you taunt them so. Have you no heart within?~ The voice that spoke could be heard only to Ean - neither of his 'victims' heard a solitary word. But Ean did reply - quietly. Softly.

"Needs must come, into an end. Needed trust, or needed friend. Testing merit, power be - Lest the soul take fright and flee."

That was not said to Zuko, though - that was mostly under his breath. JUST loud enough for whatever had spoken to hear.

Satin Regret
Zuko was officially creeped out by the kid. His eyes were glowing, though it wasn't like he hadn't seen glowy eyed people before. It was the creepy voice, and the fact that he spoke in morbid little rhymes. Oh jeez, a pessimistic shakespeare addict maybe? Zuko kept a hand on the back of Fell's jacket, just in case he decided to get a little over-enthusiastic...

Fell on the other hand... The other boy's words essentially went in one ear and out the other, leaving no trace of their passing behind. To him, the kid just spoke extensively and with boring words. But his hair was shinnnyy.... Laughing loudly, a broad, delighted smile lighting his tanned face, Fell toddled forward, not entirely used to walking on two feet, to stand in front of Ean, a curious look on his face as he smiled, holding a gloved hand out. "Blackfell!" He said. The one word he could pronounce correctly as of yet.

Aaron Arrikanez
Ean gave no indication that he was in the least bit disturbed. He was a little creepy, yes - and for all his glowing eyes and sinister voice, the impression he gave was of complete sanity. However, talking to oneself could tilt that scale a little left of center. He took Blackfell's hand in his own. It was light shaking hands with a ghost... or a living statue. Fragile, frail - like 'Fell could break his hand with the slightest grip. But also cold as death. The breath that fell from the boy's lips did NOT fog in the frigid air. That in itself was probably not the best sign. Ean smiled.

"Fate will stay his hand this night, for the demon's sole delight. Hands of ice, and eyes of flame, capture mind and soul the same. Make the nighttime fear your call, lest by HIS dark eyes you fall."

A warning? A greeting? Once again, hard to tell. But this one sounded much more like a warning than a friendly [albeit strange] speech like last time. He held onto 'Fell's hand a little longer than he probably should have, but DID eventually let go.

Satin Regret
Fell gave the other boy a weird look, but quickly shrugged it off with an easy smile. "Wanna play? Delight in play, right?" He asked, grinning as he fluttered his wings through the hole in his jacket. His hair kept falling in his eyes, but he didn't notice. The other boy certainly was odd, but Fell didn't particularly care.

Zuko certainly did. But when it seemed Fell didn't mind, Zuko took a step back to lean against the play set, keeping an older-brotherly eye on Fell, but otherwise staying back.

Aaron Arrikanez
The creepy one grinned in a fairly disturbing manner, but started to slink off with the other child regardless. He didn't seem like he was going to HARM 'Fell at all. But on the other hand, he didn't look like he was up much for 'playing' either. He broke into a soft chuckle of laughter, and rested his back against one of the playsets.

"Remembered light, rain and ice, memories will sacrifice. The circle drawn, the summoned death, with fatal hand and fatal breath. No thing stirring, no thing lies - all things stirring, that thing dies."

Satin Regret
Blackfell gave the boy another odd look, but he grinned nevertheless, laughing loudly. "You sure talk funny." He said, his smile broad and innocent as he squatted in the snow, picking up handfuls and packing them into balls.

With Aure

More Creepiness?

Satin Regret
Now that it was getting warmer out, Niko was finally able to be dragged out of the house by her ever cheery son, Fell. Granted, she didn't complain too much. It was warmer then last time, so she was just wearing jeans and a heavy winter jacket, despite the snow all melting and the sun out and shining.

Fell was in his black sweatpants and sneakers, with a white hoodie on overtop, various "shinies" hanging from his neck and wrists while he pulled along his mother. "C'mon, mum!" He was saying, the pair heading for the park. "I wanna go swiinng!" Fell was jumping around, letting go of Niko's hands to run around waving his arms like a plane as they entered the park.

romantic wishes
A hand shot out of the bushes and grabbed Fell's wrist, tugging him back. "You shouldn't run, little boy. Bad things happen to children who run." Aure smirked at the dark-skinned child through a screen of leaves. She wiped the leaves away and stood up, letting go of Fell and smiling at Niko. "Hello there," she said, offering one hand.

Satin Regret
Fell side-stepped a little as someone's hand grabbed his wrist, pulling him backwards. He stood there staring at the girl, then grinned when he saw her ears. "Shiny!" He stated, reaching up with his free hand to make a grab at one.

Niko raised an eyebrow, grinning slightly as her son was put off balance by a mysterious girl. She took the offered hand, though, with a friendly smile. "Hello to you too." The angel said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, just as she noticed Fell grabbing for the girl's ear, a moment too late though.

romantic wishes
The second Fell's fingers brushed her ear, Aure stomped on his foot; her hand clenched tightly around Niko's. Her smile didn't waver at all. "Excuse me," she said to the angel, disengaging her hand. "It's a knee-jerk reaction." She stepped backwards and rubbed her ear where it had been grabbed gently.

Satin Regret
Fell hurriedly let go of the girl's ear as he tugged his hand from her grasp, instead hopping on one foot to massage his wounded appendage. "Meany!" He said, glaring accusingly at Aure, as if he had done nothing wrong to deserve the stomping.

Niko laughed softly, waving a hand towards her son and giving him a brief pet on the head. "Don't worry about it; his hands constantly wander when something catches his eye, so he's actually used to things like that." She said with a smile. "I'm Nikomas, by the way, and this is my son Blackfell."

romantic wishes
"Yes, I'm very mean," Aure said cheerfully. "It's good you've figured that out now instead of later." She pulled some gum (Sour Apple) out of her bag and withdrew a stick, chewing on it before looking back to Niko. "I'm Aurelius Venport. It's nice to meet you."

Satin Regret
Fell petulantly stuck his tongue out, instead plopping down in the grass and pulling a long necklace out of his pocket, playing contentedly with that. "Meany." He mumbled under his breath, giving Aure a young glare that was more humorous to look at then frightening.

Niko gave her son an exhasperated look, but grinned anyways. "I'm not sure where he got the necklace, nor am I sure I want to know." The angel said, looking skyward for patience, before turning back to Aure again. "Pleasure to meet you too, Aurelis." She said with a smile. "Do you come here often?"

romantic wishes
Just to make sure, Aure checked that her dragonfly necklace was still on. It was, so she turned back to Nikomas. "Not really. I spend much more time at Tuccamirgen, near the computer district. But, I am going home today." And then she had spied an Illusionary from the Halloween party and decided to give him a scare.

Satin Regret
Fell's eyes wandered to the necklace, which he somehow hadn't noticed before, but her motion of double checking for it called his attention to it. His gold eyes gleamed slightly, and he continued to play with the necklace. He hadn't a clue what his mother and the blonde girl were talking about, though he was half-listening. "What's Tuccamirgen?" Fell asked loudly.

Niko grinned sheepishly at her son, then back at Aure. "I can't say I've been to Tuccamirgen before..." She said, trailing off a little hesitantly, as she didn't recognize the name.

romantic wishes
"A park in Durem. It's named after an Indian chief from Earth," she said, waving off the question. "It's not important." After a moment of quiet comtemplation, Aure asked, "So, how old is he?"

Satin Regret
Well, that might explain it. She wasn't in Durem very often, the city made her miss trees. "How old is he? Uhmm, I think he's about-"

"I'm almost two years old!" Fell cut in, proudly thumping his chest with a balled up fist. "How old is shiny-eyes?"

romantic wishes
"One and a half," said Aure, greatly amused. She crossed her arms and looked down at Fell as she idly tapped the toe of her penny loafer against the heel of its pair. "Looks like Illusionary don't grow the same, do they?"

Satin Regret
Fell stuck his tongue out at the girl. "I'll be big soon!" He said, though he really had no clue if that was true or not.

Niko gave her son a fond, crooked smile. "Mm-hm, maybe if you're good, brat." She said, ruffling his hair affectionately.

romantic wishes
"I'll be bigger even sooner," she returned, narrowing her eyes. He was so not cute, not cute at all. "I don't believe it depends on behavior. One of the worst-behaved Illusionary I know grew a short time after I did."

Satin Regret
Niko grinned, making a shhing sound to the older girl. "Details, details. Anything to keep him good." She said, smiling.

Fell sat down on the ground, his wings closed to his shoulders. "Whozzat?" He asked when she mentioned the badly behaved child.

romantic wishes
She huffed, and half-turned away. "Mereneth," Aure grumbled. He made her so angry! But it was irrational to blame others for her own emotional mood swings, and she was not much into irrationality, except when it benefited her more than the other person. Especially when she did not stand to benefit from said irrationality, at any rate.

The blonde muttered something under her breath, giving a wilting look to an innocent dandelion.

Satin Regret
Niko raised an eyebrow as the girl grumbled. Merenth wasn't a name she recognized, but then, the angel hadn't been around much recently.

Fell looked up at Aure as he heard the name; he knew who the boy was, but he didn't seem bad. Mere was actually fun to play with, but he hadn't seen him in awhile, so he might have changed abit. "Mere's big now?" He asked, somewhat pointlessly since Aure had already said as much.

With Faye(Fa'e)

Ensuing Electrocution

Satin Regret
Niko had just gotten off the phone with Faye, and was getting ready to head out for the night. She was leaving to spend some time with the father of one of Sere's friends, Kitsune, and since Zuko, Aqua, and Sere were all in school, that would leave Blackfell by himself. So, the angel called one of her friends to act as babysitter. With good pay, going by the child she'd have to keep an eye on.

She wasn't sure when Faye would get there, but she called down the stairs to her son. "Fell, I have to go now. Faye's coming soon, and she'll be here till I get back. Behave for her, alright?" Niko came down the stairs, peeking her head into the TV room where Fell was lying on the floor watching cartoons.

Fell looked over his shoulder at his mom in the door way, and gave her a big smile. "Alright!" He said; he had no idea who this Faye was, but it was a friend of his mom's who she'd mentioned from time to time. Some kind of rabbit woman or something. Maybe she had something shiny to grab? He stood up and ran to his mom, hugging her around the waist, as he couldn't reach higher.

"Have fun, mom-lady." Fell said, using his old name for her from when he was even younger then he was now.

Tsu-chan
Although she tolerated children to some extent, Faye still wasn't really fond of actually having to, well, stay put and make sure they didn't earn themselves a Darwin Award. On the other hand, babysitting meant being paid, and the rabbit Fa'e had known Niko for quite some time, so she figured she may as well.

This wasn't to say that she'd be nice, though. Or that she'd entirely make sure the tyke didn't get in any accidents. Kids were so hard to keep track of these days, after all. Who was to say that Faye didn't try her best to prevent little Johnny from going to play in traffic? And the Legion was rather easy to provoke into attacking...

Reaching the residence, the Fa'e youth knocked on the door. Though she didn't appear to be accompanied by any of her furry friends this round, that didn't mean that they weren't nearby, or that they wouldn't come when called.

Satin Regret
Niko smiled at her son as she heard the door knock. Grinning slightly, she stretched over to grab the doorknob, turning it with a click and letting it swing open to reveal the pink haired youth.

"Hullo again, Faye." The angel said, smiling cheerfully. "Sorry about the short notice. The other kids are all in school, otherwise I would've asked them. I hope he's not too much of a problem." She ruffled his hair with another fond smile, before grabbing her bag. "Should be simple enough. There's food in the fridge if you or him want lunch, and cartoons on the TV. He shouldn't be too bad, though I would hide anything remotely shiny that you have."

Through his mother's monologue, Fell was staring at the rabbit girl. Certainly unlike any he had seen before. Except Tangia, but he barely remembered her. This one had pretty pink hair and ears, but besides that she looked fairly normal. Fell didn't see too many shiny things on her, either. After a moment, he stuck a brown little hand out to Faye, a childish smile on his face. "I'm Fell."

Tsu-chan
"Of, of course he won't be a problem," Faye replied, looking rather neutral about the deal; she technically had never been left alone with children before, but the rabbit girl knew enough to know that if trouble occured, there were plenty of ways to pin the blame elsewhere, as well as plenty of ways to solve the problem.

"Shiny, huh. Don't think my keys are all too shiny, so I suppose I'm safe," the youth remarked, not really caring much either which way. It was a kid after all- even though Faye wasn't even 5', the Fa'e youth still didn't get why there'd be a threat to her posessions from someone younger and smaller than she.

Quirking an eyebrow at Fell, the rabbit girl paused for a moment before sticking out her own hand. "Faye. Course, I believe you've been given my name already," she said.

Satin Regret
Niko arched an eyebrow slightly at that. Ah well. Learn from expirience, right? Grinning slightly, she ruffled Fell's hair and backed out the door. "Have fun, try not to burn anything Fell." She said teasingly, waving to the two before trotting down the side walk and out of sight.

Fell waved to his mother as she disappeared, before looking up at Faye again, his gold eyes round. "Yup, mom told me 'fore you got here that you were comin'." He said, his head tilting slightly as he studied her. She's pretty. Never seen pink hair before. That thought ran through his mind, before he jumped up to make a grab at her ear, seeing the earring dangling there.

Tsu-chan
"Buh-bye now~" Faye called, waving as Niko left. The rabbit girl still couldn't believe that Niko, of all people, trusted her alone with her children, even one of them, but hey- she was being paid.

Turning back to the kid, Faye shrugged, not really caring, actually, as to how he'd learned her name. So as long as he wasn't calling her the Easter Bunny or anything, all was good. Of course, all bets were off when Fell grabbed at her ear; caught offguard, the rabbit Fa'e uttered a few audible curses as a small group of rabbits appeared.

Well, she never did say they weren't going to show up.

Satin Regret

Fell let go of her ear when she started swearing and when the rabbits appeared. She sounded like Sere for a second, though they looked nothing alike. But no, his attention was on the rabbits. The rabbits that weren't there a second ago.

"Whoah, how'd you do that?" He asked, standing on his tiptoes to reach a whopping height of 3'5, to look into the eyes of one of the rabbits. He held up his hands to it and stroked the white fur on it's back. "Where'd they come from?"

Tsu-chan

Faye rubbed her ear irritably, thinking rather angry thoughts at the moment. She had half a mind to strike Fell, really; child abuse was wrong, yes, and illegal in certain parts of the world, but tugging on the rabbit girl's ears was an unspeakable offense, something most children didn't do unless they wished to be shipped across the country in multiple pieces.

Of course, just as equally annoyed were the rabbits, none of whom were all too amused. With the exeption of the one being pet, most stared at Fell with pupiless red eyes, eyes that seemed to be glowing, oddly enough, watching to see what his next move was.

"Wherever," the Fa'e replied bluntly, never really looking into where the rabbits came from, "and they come when called. Or," she added, crossing her arms over her chest,

"Whenever someone's gone and tangoed with me or them and needs a lesson as to why they shouldn't."

Quietly, she pondered if Niko had life insurance on the kid; Faye was quite sure even this early that the tyke wasn't going to make it out of this in one piece.

Satin Regret

Fell made a pouting face, sticking his tongue out at her while still petting one of the rabbits. "Meany. Why won't you tell? 'Snot a secret, is it?" He asked, looking back up at her, pulling the rabbit down against his chest.

She certainly seemed to be a sourpuss, he thought, thinking of a term his mother used now and then.

Tsu-chan

"I'm not mean; you're simply stupid," Faye thought, almost saying it aloud. The battle had only just begun, though, and the rabbit Fa'e knew that if Tsu was going to continue to try getting her to tolerate children more, that she would have to refrain from maiming small children within the first ten seconds.

"I'm not mean," she said, "you simply seem to fail to grasp the concept that pulling on one's ears is rather unacceptable."

Okay, so technically it meant the same as what she thought. At the very least, it sounded fancier and less, well...obvious.

"They come when they want. Something to do with something else that I have no clue about. A contract, maybe, or perhaps they see me as some diety to them or whatnot."

Ahaha...a diety- Faye was kidding herself, really she was. Gods and goddesses were more powerful than she was, and something as simple as rabbit summoning was nothing to them, from what she read.

Satin Regret

Fell looked up at her, his lower lip wiggling out in a stubborn pout. "Why not?" he asked; he had barely understood a word she said. Why'd she have to use bigger words?

He frowned as she kept talking, an expression on his face almost as if he was tucking non-existant dog-ears back. "Whats a dee-tee?" Fell asked. Whatever it was, it was still cool to summon rabbits. Though ravens or something would be cooler.

With Tahira

Strangers Met

Satin Regret
Niko was out and about in town, Fell walking alongside her with an almost dog-like harness around his torso, a little leash attached to the angel's waist. Necassary precautions, with his butterfinger hands slipping into random pockets, but still... She sighed slightly, looking down at her son in amusement as they walked down mainstreet, heading for the park playground, the raven boy's favorite hangout.

As they entered the park, Fell started fluttering his wings, the fabric of his t-shirt rippling slightly in the wind from them, and he ran forward, straining at the restricting rope tieing him to his mother. Giving her a sad puppy look, she let him off the hook, and he immediately took off for the swings, letting out a delighted laugh as he started pushing himself off, sitting on the swing on his belly and flying like a plane.

Noel-chan
Alex was barely visible behind the precariously perched motley of boxes and bags in his arms. After the initial shock of finidng the infant, Tahira, he'd realized that his home wasn't equipped to suit a baby. A, not so quick, stop at a couple of stores had fixed that. No, they'd more than fixed it. Alex had plenty of money to throw around and in his haste and anxiety he'd gotten way more than he needed to make sure he had enough. As he walked along, some of the bigger items, such as the furniture were being delivered to his house. The things he determined as in more immediate need were carried with him. He had no experience with being a father, so the things of "more immediate need" had turned into absulotely everything light enough for him to carry. Tahira was on a sling on his back. He'd wanted to put her in the fancy new stroller he'd bought her, but that would require a good bit of assembling before it would be useable to him.

Alex felt immensely worried that he wouldn't be able to properly care for this new child. He'd hoped for his sister's help--she'd been stopping by everday to check out the wisp that had formerly been trailing him, but now it had turned into this child. He'd been amazed at how angry this had made her. The woman obviously wanted children of her own and was infuraiated that her useless brother was getting one instead. But, Alex comforted himself with the knowledge that she'd come back soon enough. She wouldn't feel right leaving a helpless child in his incompetant care.

Alex was planning on heading home, but stopped abruptly at the entrance of the park when he saw the winged child. In one mad rush, he dropped the contents in his arms and ran into the park, his infant bouncing in the sling on his back and giggling. Even in his state of hurried, emotional turmoil, Alex had sense enough to approach the mother first instead of the child.

"How?", he asked the women, his eyes begging to know. "Your child is different. Like mine." He slipped Tahira out of her sling and held her out for the woman to see.

Satin Regret
Niko looked up, startled, as she heard a question adressed to her. She turned around to face the man, a confused frown on her face. "Uhmm, how what?" She asked; the angel was definately confused. "Well, yes, he's different, but..." She looked over her shoulder at her son, who was still on the swing set.

Fell looked up as he saw the man approaching his mother with a baby, stopping mid swing. Funny looking man and kid. Hopping off the swing, he approached at a trot, his wings fluttering behind as the fabric from his shorts slapped his legs. "Who's he?" He asked, tugging on Niko's skirt.

Noel-chan
Alex suddenly felt very foolish. It'd been a stupid idea to go up to a stranger and expect an explanation for the infant's appearance. He wouldn't normally do such a thing. The day had been so frantic and unreal that he could barely grasp normalacy anymore. Obviously the wings must be mechanical . . . or something. The woman had a pair too. He shouldn't jump to such conclusions. Another part of his mind contradicted, Shouldn't jump to contradictions?! A baby appeared from a floating image for christsakes. After that, nothing is ridiculous. He really hoped he was dreaming, that seemed the only explanation now, but he knew undeniably that he wasn't.

"Look", he replied in a snappish, impatient tone. "It hasn't been a good day. This baby here appeared to me this morning from a floating image that's been following me. Either you know why or you don't. Does this kind of thing happen all the time and no ones bothered to mention it to me, or what? " He was quite prepared to believe that this was normal, simply because the huge shock of something so abnormal for him had thrown him off balance and made it so that, at the momment, he had no idea of what was "real" or "sane"

Noel-chan
"Is it?" Alex replied manicly to the 'It's normal for your child' comment. Just his luck that he'd managed to acquire a child through such strange circumstances. It was terrible to think that it was a spot of chance that had caused him such a problem.

"Only . . . I didn't . . . well", He started and then paused to align his thoughts. He determined it was probably best to come right out and say it."I didn't exactly want one."

As terrible as it was, it was what he was thinking. He'd proudly avoided the commitment tof parenthood for years. Hell, he'd been very proud that he'd been so careful. No woman had never become pregant with a child of his. Though there had been, well, plenty of chances. He didn't exactly abstinate. He partied, he got drunk, and by the end of the night some other girl was whorish or drunk enough to tempt him. From there things just . . . happened.

Satin Regret
Niko could understand some of his feelings. Blackfell was her first child, though he was still sort of the youngest. The other three grew so fast! But the second thing he said startled her.

"Not want one? Why? Children are like a gift. I mean, you were one for part of your life, right?" She said, her small smile crooked on her pale face.

Fell couldn't exactly tell what they were talking about, so he looked at the baby instead. She had dark hair and some funny markings, but she was pretty enough. He couldn't see anything shiny, so he reached his hands up to Alex. "Can I hold her?" He asked; he spoke pretty well for a toddler.

Noel-chan
"I suppose not planning for one might be a better way of putting it", he replied carelessly. It was a nicer way of putting it, but it wasn't, on the whole, nearly as honest. He'd never thought much about it. It had always been nothing more than an extra responsibility in his mind. When describing Alex, only a liar would use the word 'responsible".

When Fell asked to hold the baby, Alex hesitated, and felt embaressed to catch himself doing so. He was very attatched to the baby even if it hadn't been in his plans. Such things can often beome unexpectantly precious. He found that he was very protective of the new baby. Alex held her out towards the boy with exagerated care. "Just make sure to have an arm under her head as well as her body. Babies aren't able to keep their own head up. It's important to remember", Alex instructed, feeling further embaressment for knowing and hoping dearly that the boy's mother didn't notice the many parenting books and magazines scattered among the other assortment of baby stuff he'd dumped a bit away in his rush earlier.

Satin Regret
Niko raised an eyebrow; she liked kids, so it was still difficult to believe another person couldn't. "Fell was pretty unexpected for me. I honestly don't even remember how I got him, or my other three." She frowned, thinking back. "They mostly just showed up on my doorstep. Not necassarily literally for all of them, though." She said, grinning slightly as he suddenly seemed overprotective of the "unwanted burden."

Fell took careful hold of her, his gold eyes wide. "I'll be careful." He said, cradling her carefully in his arms, taking a second to arrange her as the man specified. "She's pretty." Fell said, looking up and smiling brightly, gently bobbing the baby in his arms.

Noel-chan
"She is", Alex agreed, nodding. It's been just this morning that she'd turned into an infant right before his eyes. He couldn't believe it. It seemed like more time than that. The day had been a bit hectic.

"Her name is Tahira", Alex told them both casually. He then paused, looking worried. "I don't know how I know that, but I do."

Satin Regret
Niko raised an eyebrow. "Well, sometimes kids have names that just seem to suit them. I named him-" She nodded to her son. "-Blackfell, because it just seemed to work for him."

"Tahira." Fell said, holding her in front of him, his hands under her armpits, watching her face. "She can't talk yet, can she?" He asked, looking up at Alex.

Noel-chan
"Nope, she's just a baby", Alex replied.

His face grew worried as he glanced over at the infant, her eyes were unfocused. "She's oddly unresponsive at times. When I first saw her, I thought she was deaf and blind. She wouldn't respond to any noises I made and her eyes didn't follow anything that moved. She goes into her own little world and nothing can snap her out of it. I wonder what's wrong. She'll be perfectly fine and without warning she'll stop responding. Just like that. When she first appeared a terrble feeling of sadness preceeded her. It was horrible. The most horrible feeling I've ever felt."

Satin Regret
Niko frowned as he described this; nothing like that had happened to her with Fell. Not that could remember, at least. "Well, you said she appeared this morning, right? Not all babies are totally responsive right off the bat." She said, raising an eyebrow again.

Fell frowned, looking at Alex, and shook the baby a little, looking for some sort of something in her face. "Why?" He asked simply, before sitting on the ground, still holding Tahira under her arms. The raven-boy started tickling her belly.

Noel-chan
"Darn, I was hoping it had something to do with the species. What was it you called them again? . . . Oh yes, illusionary."

As the boy started tickling her belly, Tahira came back to reality in a fit of giggles. Alex stared at the little baby, looking puzzled. "Now isn't that something . . . She won't do that for me."

Satin Regret
Niko grinned slightly at his phrasing. "Species? They're just like you and me. They breath, they talk, they eat. They have hands and faces, feet and bodies. What more do you need?"

A wide smile broke out across Fell's face as baby Tahira started giggling. "Hee hee, I got her to do somethin'!" The raven-child said proudly, hugging the baby to his chest.

Blackfell's birthday party

Birthday Surprises

Satin Regret
The park is bright and sunny, a few scattered bits of ribbon tied to the monkey bars, with the nearest picnic table covered with little plates of food. A couple with candy, a few bottles of soda and juice, some others with hot chicken fingers, and one plate with an uncut, pink and white cake, the words Happy Birthday Blackfell! written on the top on yellow frosting. There are a few presents from the other Torren family members lying on the ground at the side of the table.

Niko set down the last plate of snacks, the chicken fingers, sparing a glance over her shoulder for her youngest yet oldest son, Blackfell. She smiled fondly at him; it had been two years since he was born, and it had certainly been an interesting two years. Her other kids, Aqua and Shizuko, were present as well. Zuko was sitting on the bench, and Aqua was over playing on the monkey bars with Fell. Sere was off somewhere with a friend, though she did show enough care for her brother to get him a little present.

Fell himself was swinging quite nimbly on the bars, occasional spouts of laughter coming from him and his sister, who was just as energetic as he.

Diary-ish Post, Niko's POV

Niko was sitting on her bed, her knees tucked up against her chest, with a small, dark red leather notebook that served as her diary propped on her knees, a pencil dangling from her fingers as she slowly wrote.

-growing really well. He's definately getting bigger! He used to be so little, and he can have fairly legible conversations now. Zuko doesn't mind babysitting him, since Fell can actually talk to him now. I'm afraid that boy might corrupt Fell with his womanizing habits though. The angel paused to let a chuckle escape her throat. And of course we can't let that happen, now can we?

Anyways. Fell's meeting some more of the illusionary, I think they were called. That's what I told that man, Alex, anyways. He met Ean, Aurelius, and baby Tahira. All were certainly interesting encounters, according to him at least. I also had Faye babysit him, which was... Interesting. Not entirely certain how it turned out, since neither her nor Fell would comment.

His hands are also getting trickier. He found this one necklace that looks like pearls, but I havn't a clue where. I don't even
own pearls! Thinking I'll probably have to handcuff his hands, soon, though somehow I'm doubting that would make a difference...

Closing her journal with a small, crooked smile, Niko pushed it under her pillow while sliding off her bed and out the door...

With Kirckaldy

Differing Appearances

Satin Regret
It was sunny out, showing the effects of spring. Green grass, sprouting leaves, blossoming leaves. All that good stuff.

Nikomas and Blackfell were, as per usual, in the park near the playground. The angel was sitting on a bench, and Fell was swinging quite nimbly on the monkey bars, at this moment hanging upside down with his legs over one of the bars, his arms hanging below his head as he swung back and forth to grab the next bar.

romesilk
From that vantage point, Fell had a clear view of the approach of n'Barit and Kirkcaldy. Baby in one hand and crutch in the other, n'Barit hobbled along in an almost amusing fashion. He had developed a rather peculiar gait which allowed him to swing his crutch and walk without disturbing Kirkcaldy too much.

The little girl, for her part, looked healthy and happy to be out in the nice warm sun with the trees and the fresh air. She held her silver bauble, gripping it like a like her life depended on having the object. As she had never once been separated from the bauble, maybe it did. There were so many questions to be answered about the young Illusionary. Thankfully there was plenty of time.

The pair's destination looked to be the bench where Nikomas was sitting. It was the only bench available in the area, the other having been vandalized by teenaged Gaian hoodlums and taken out until it could be replaced. There was plenty of space on the bench for two, but something in n'Barit's determined face indicated displeasure at that idea. It did not bode well for an innocently happy day at the park.

Satin Regret
Fell noticed the pair approaching, a man on weird stick things with a baby in a sling around his neck. Dropping down from the bars and onto his feet with a thud, Fell ran over, windmilling his arms as if he were an airplane, while making buzzing sounds with his tongue. A broad grin spread on his face as he ran up to the two, merriment in his gold eyes. "Heylo!"

Niko was laughing at her son, but when she saw his eyes focus on someone approaching, and then drop down to run towards the pair, she gave him an exhasperated smile. "Fell, come back here. Don't bother them." She looked at n'Barit and gave him an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry if he startled you or anything..." The angel said, trailing off at the determination in his face.

romesilk
N'Barit stopped quite short, readjusted Kirkcaldy in his arm to make sure no part of her was dangling within Fell's reach, and glared at the little boy. "Hey," he barked, "go away."

Out of reach, Kirkcaldy could only sigh in exasperation. Every time she got that feeling about a new person it ended badly through no part of her own. She had no reason to expect this time would be any different. Sometimes n'Barit was just too much. Idly, she wondered if she should just take a nap and sleep this whole thing through, but with n'Barit being so disagreeable there would probably be some shouting. "Pf," she concluded, accidentally sending spittle onto n'Barit's shirt.

Satin Regret
Fell's smile disappared as a hurt expression took it's place. He was about to ask why, when he saw the little baby spit on the mean man's shirt. The smile returned, along with loud laughter. "Pretty baby." He said, holding a hand out towards Kirkcaldy.

Slapping her face and pulling her hand down, Niko looked skywards for patience, though she had the kerchief wrapped around her eyes today. Standing up, she made her way towards the splotches of heat that appeared to her eyes. "Sir, I'm sorry about my son. He doesn't really understand the concept of 'personal space' yet, though I've been trying." She finished with a crooked smile.

romesilk
N'Barit was less than understanding. "Then try a little harder," he snapped, and, glaring at Fell, added, "No touching, brat." The epithet was probably too much, but when had n'Barit ever done anything in half strides? Subtlety was an art totally lost on him. He stamped his crutch against the dirt in annoyance.

Satin Regret
Fell merely skipped out of the way of the crutch, the silver necklace in Kirkcaldy's hand catching his eye. He reached forward to the baby again, the smile coming back. "What's her name?" Fell asked, now oblivious to the man's annoyance.

Oh dear... Niko though, rubbing her temple with a finger. "Look, I'm sorry." She said, reaching forward to grab one of Fell's hands by the wrist and pulling him backwards. "He's just a toddler, he doesn't know any better." Niko said, giving the man a slightly reproachful look, though it might have been difficult to tell with the blindfold. If this man was like this to normal people, who knew how he treated his own child, hanging around his neck.

romesilk
With a sniff of disapproval, n'Barit said, "Weak teachers make for weak students." It definitely dispelled any illusions about his parenting goals. "What's your excuse?" With that, he proceeded to make his way towards the bench, not really caring if Nikomas bothered to answer, so long as her little brat stayed away from his child.

Satin Regret
Fell wasn't paying attention to what the mean man said anymore, he was trying to get the attention of the baby around his neck instead. "What's your name?" He asked her, not certain if she was capable of speaking or not.

Niko's expression turned to a glare with n'Barit's next words. "A person learns from expirience. Kindness can help, and using harsh words to ingrain a lesson can only lessen a person's capabilities in the future, depriving them of feelings." She said stiffly. "It certainly shows what kind of a parent you will be to your daughter." The angel said, the lines of her face showing her irritation with the man; she didn't normally get angry, but she loved children, and to think that a baby girl would be with such a... Oh, she couldn't think of the word. Such a stiff man, was galling.

romesilk
Kirkcaldy noticed Fell's question and did make a little "Keee!" in reply, but she was distracted immediately by n'Barit.

As Niko spoke, n'Barit made a face and pantomimed talking, mocking the speech. Blah blah blah, he was saying as he walked away, look at the woman run off at the mouth. From his perspective, this was just a weak person making a weak defense of a weak position. Had he been paying attention he would have further decried her argument as being illogical and taken offense at the implications about his parenting, so it was probably for the best that he tuned Nikos out and made fun of her instead.

Kirkcaldy giggled at n'Barit's funny face despite herself. "Djiiideen!" she exclaimed, sounding somewhat exasperated. She knew at this point when he was being mean to people and funny as his face was, she did not approve. N'Barit obligingly stopped his impression and Kirkcaldy glanced back over his shoulder at Nikos (and to a smaller extent Blackfell) in meaningful apology.

"Why look!" said n'Barit in his loudest I'm-ignoring-you voice, "what have we here? An empty bench!" It was indeed the bench, vacated moments earlier by Nikos, and n'Barit dropped his crutch across the whole length of it with a clatter, claiming it at his own.

Satin Regret
The smile returned to his face at the response from Kirkcaldy, and he trotted after the man, keeping up a conversation with the baby as he moved. "I'm Blackfell, but you can call me Fell! Is your name Kee?" Fell asked, his smile big and innocent.

Niko stared after him with a roug glare on her face. She rarely disliked someone, but this man was swiftly becoming an exception. Though the angel wasn't rude enough to knock the crutch off the bench, she sorely wanted to. He was definately getting on her nerves, to say the least.

romesilk
"Klay," said Kirkcaldy cheerily. At this rate no one would ever know her actual name, and she seemed to be accumulating nicknames from her varied responses at an alarming rate. N'Barit hcould have helped resolve the issue, but he only hummed at Kirkcaldy as he pulled the towel from the bag on his shoulder and laid it out on the bench with a flick of his wrist.

Satin Regret
Since Fell seemed to be getting on okay with the child, and the "father" wasn't making any threatening moves, Niko settled back against the closest tree, content to sit on the ground and lean against the trunk, keeping a wary ear and "eye" on the motley group.

Fell stuck out a hand to the baby, the big grin still present. "Nice t'meet'cha Klay!" He said, stumbling a little over the odd name. He wasn't sure what the man was doing, but it wasn't that interesting, so he ignored him. "Klay, wanna go play on the seesaw or somethin'?" Fell asked the baby.

romesilk
Time for that threatening move Niko was so wary of. "Don't touch!" snapped n'Barit, turning away protectively to keep Kirkcaldy out of reach. "Your filthy little hands aren't welcome." Kirkcaldy let out a little upset wheeze. Fell seemed just so friendly and nice! She jabbed her foot into n'Barit's ribcage to no effect.

Satin Regret
Fell made a petulant pouting face at the man, sticking his tongue out. "My hands're clean, see!" He said, demonstrating by holding them out palm up. "They ain't dirty or nuthin'." Fell looked at Kirkcaldy again, and gave her a cheerful smile. "Is he always like that?"

romesilk
Kirkcaldy didn't quite follow, but she smiled at Fell anyway, just in time for her bright little moment to be ruined by n'Barit.

"You don't know the meaning of the word clean," n'Barit shot back at Fell, turning up his nose in disgust at the boy's ignorance. He hefted Kirkcaldy up in his arms even more, as if Blackfell might have grown taller in the past minute.

Satin Regret
Fell stuck his tongue out again, and clambered up onto the bench, standing on it next to the man with his little fists on his skinny hips. "Why're you being mean?" He asked, a little glare starting to form in his face.

romesilk
N'Barit sucked in air through his teeth and held his ground. The little brat was standing that close to the towel. His precious Kirkcaldy's towel. If n'Barit had been capable of seeing the color red, he would have been seeing it right now. "Get off that bench, brat!" he said firmly.

Realizing n'Barit was moments away from another of his temper blowups, Kirkcaldy bleated in marning, "Giya!" She waved her hand back and forth in alarm. "Banna!" As if offering Blackfell a banana might help.

Satin Regret
((Anger issues? xd ))

Fell's eyesbrows knit together as he tried to make sense of what Kirkcaldy was saying. "Giya? Banna?" No sense. Whatsoever. But the man's tone was registring in the toddler's brain, and he stuck his tongue out again, turning around and wiggling his little backside at the man. "Nyaah."

Niko stood up quickly as she heard the man's voice escalating. Oh Sun Lord... What was Fell doing? She stopped midstep, slapping her face and shaking her head at her son. Now where'd he get that bright idea from...? She thought, feeling a small twinge of amusement mixed in with the worry about the man's temper. Aqua, probably. The angel thought as she came up to the bench, the lines in her face hardening. "You'd probably do best to be polite to other people."

romesilk
From n'Barit's perspective, that was the first unidiotic thing out of Nikomas's mouth, but by some miracle he kept the sentiment to himself. Instead, he managed to say something even worse. "Yeah, before I smack you, brat." In his own mind, he was helpfully reinforcing Nikomas's attempt at parenting.

Kirkcaldy covered her face with her hands. Had she been a fan of the Teletubbies, it would have been the perfect time for an "Uh oh!"

Satin Regret
The boy stuck his tongue out again, putting his thumb to his nose and waggling his fingers. "M'name's Fell, not brat." He said petulantly, his wings fluttering in annoyance. "Get it right."

Niko's hands were balled into fists. Did he think she was talking to her son? She'd been adressing the man, though her words did apply to her son as well. "I wasn't adressing my son, sir." She said stiffly, glaring at him.

romesilk
"Then you're the one he gets it from," snapped n'Barit. No one, no one criticized him! Not even Emperial! Maybe Sally, but she was a special case, and n'Barit always gave her a verbal lashing straight after. It was mostly for show. Sally was a strong leader, for a human, and knew how to stand her ground. N'Barit respected her for that. It was a respect that had taken her ten years to earn, and n'Barit was not about to give such respect to Nikomas freely after less than ten minutes.

N'Barit took a large breath of air. "If you had any notion of manners you'd get your whelp off my bench and beat sense into him. Any brat that spoiled deserves to have some dirt put in his coffee! You coddling humans and your spoiled children have no idea what a real life is about, living in cowardly houses filled with lazy technology, never working a single honest day in your entire lives! It's no wonder your energy is so corrupted the divine won't touch it, and your lives so filthy I'd sooner be a furred tunneling rodent than one of you!" In his arms, Kirkcaldy just sat with a shocked expression on her face, staring with her mouth open, totally stunned.

Satin Regret
At the divine won't touch it, the angel snapped. "Oh, really? And what exactly makes you think I'm human, or even not divine? Do you have any clue who or what you're talking to?" She asked, her hands balled into fists as her voice turned steely. She hardly spoiled Fell, that was for certain. Anyone was entitled to a simple bench in the park.

"And why by Goddesses' name should the divine want to touch you? How could they love or speak fondly of someone who is so harsh to a mere child who is simply trying to be friendly, only acting brat-worthy when provoked?" Niko's wings were quivering, ready to snap open at the least agressive motion.

Fell, apparently forgotten between the adults arguments, looked back and forth between the two. He'd never seen his mother this angry before, even when Sere was acting her brattiest. He rolled off the bench, crawling underneath it to look up through the flat wood boards at Kirk, giving the quietest whistle he could that wouldn't be heard by the adults, but possibly by the baby.

romesilk
"The divine is all," seethed n'Barit, never one to back down, "and only a moron ascribes to it a mind and personality. The feeble attempt of a lesser intelligence struggling to understand a greater concept by putting it into finite, understandable terms of consciousness. Your kind are all alike, no matter what you call yourselves."

Kirkcaldy's mouth closed and puckered into a sour frown. N'Barit had totally forgotten about her. Blinded by her indignation, she momentarily forget about Blackfell in turn. Her world narrowed to just n'Barit and the person currently distracting him: Nikomas. She did not like this, and unless the situation changed, she just might have to do something about it. Not that she had many options in her position, but she had a knack for dealing with n'Barit. She would think of something.

Satin Regret
Niko continued to glower at the man. "Because the divine can have a mind and personality. I had to work for them, so somehow I think I might have just the slightest better of an idea of divinity then you." She said, her fists clenched at her sides.

Fell gave the baby another soft whistle; Kirkcaldy hadn't seemed to notice him before, so he went a little louder, hoping the arguing kept the adults from hearing him.

romesilk
It worked. The adults were too busy battling it out, but Kirkcaldy noticed the whistle and looked at Blackfell with brightly curious eyes. Had that ridiculously awesome sound come from him? But how? That was an amazing trick! She covered her mouth shyly as she giggled.

"You follow a false deity!" n'Barit was saying. He pointed at Nikomas with his free hand in accusation, wobbling just the tiniest bit without his crutch. The metal of his fingers seemed to give the motion a sinister edge. "I know their kind well enough, and they're nothing but poison-tongued, delusional, completely undivine beings that happen to be able to do something we can't, but that doesn't make them gods! Any sufficiently advanced technique or technology looks like magic to an undeveloped mind!"

Satin Regret
Fell grinned up through the wood bars as she finally noticed him. About time! He waved a hand beckoningly, not sure if they could wander away from the adults without the mean man noticing.

"You seem to be mistaking who I'm talking about with the false ones of this world." She said stiffly. "If you've been too clueless to notice, I'm not a native of this world." The angel was angry, to say the least.

romesilk
"All personifications are false and flawed in comparison to the true divine!" maintained n'Barit. "All worlds, all universes touched by such false imposters are corrupted, and all followers of those imposters are stupid and unclean." Leave it to n'Barit to never pass up an opportunity to personally insult his opponent.

Kirkcaldy wiggled, sort of getting the idea to follow, but knowing that wasn't allowed, not even in the slightest. She smiled at Blackfell anyway and dropped her bauble to the end of its silver tether. This was the most play with another child n'Barit allowed her -- and had he been aware of what she was doing, he probably would have put a stop to it.

Satin Regret
"Oh, and what of your world then? Is it the epitomy of perfection in every way imaginable? It's obviously not good at turning out decent parents if this is how you treat your daughter." The angel spat out in return.

Fell grinned, lying on his back as he took a careful hold of the shiny pendant, looking at it and the light in the stone. He mouthed the word "Pretty!" to her, hoping she might know how to read lips, and reluctantly let it go; that wasn't something he did often, but he didn't want to misplace something belonging to his hopefully new friend, especially with the kind of mean man she had to live with.

romesilk
"What?" asked n'Barit, honestly insulted and confused. He had done nothing but hold Kirkcaldy and protect her from these unclean people and things. He could think of nothing he'd done to give this woman the impression he was mistreating Kirkcaldy. He was wearing all his clothes! "She's clean and safe! Which is way more than I can say for your little brat. My daughter knows how to behave, and--"

He caught a glinting flash off the bauble as it swung and spotted Blackfell near his leg. N'Barit immediately took half a step away and hugged Kirkcaldy. "Hey! Techt, lady, can't you control that thing at all? Your brat is the one that doesn't know how to treat something!"

Satin Regret
Nikomas was about to answer when she also saw the flash of the pendant, with Fell on his back under the bench. "That brat is my son, and at least I let him associate with others and make friends. Hiding your daughter from any and all interaction can only hurt her. Would you rather she be clean, safe and lonely, or have friends that she can laugh with and act silly with?" She asked, every trace of emotion but fury gone from her voice, her fists clenched at her sides.

Fell made a face, sticking out his lower lip in a quivering pout. That man wasn't being very nice. He just wanted to be friends, after all. He rolled over onto his belly, crawling out from under the bench, his white shirt covered with dirt spots on the front now before he brushed himself off. "I know how to treat things." The raven-boy said petulantly. "I jus' wanted to play, s'all." He said, turning to look at his mother. There wasn't anything wrong with that, was there?

romesilk
N'Barit affected the tone he did when he was totally dismissing someone's arguments, a California surfer dude inflection he had picked up from Thomas Parsons. It was his way of saying "you're not even worth getting angry about," the biggest insult possibly from his perspective. It went like this:"Dude, lady, you've only known me ten minutes. Don't act like you know anything about us or our friends." He rolled his eyes dramatically.

Even if he had a point, it was more than a little hypocritical. N'Barit was certainly behaving like he knew everything about Nikomas and Blackfell.

Then he found a reason to be angry again. "You're only saying that because you think your kid is so damn cute and special special everyone should want to play with it. I hate to break it to you, lady, but that's just not the case. Why don't you and your little dirty, unmannered whelp go bother some other people." N'Barit made sure to end with his glare fixed on Blackfell, just to make it clear he had neither forgiven nor forgotten the boy.

Instead, he had somewhat forgotten Kirkcaldy, who just sighed and copied n'Barit's eye roll. That surfer voice was funny, but it was gone too soon and replaced by the angry tone. Why n'Barit couldn't talk to other people the way he did her, she did not know. She only knew that with n'Barit watching Blackfell more closely, she could no longer make any attempt to play with him. "Look," she said, reaching her hand up to n'Barit's hair and running her fingers through it. Her definition of the word was a tad incorrect.

Satin Regret
That made the angel explode. "It? And of course he's special, just as much as your daughter is, otherwise neither of us would have the responsibility of caring for them. Every child is special, and if you can't see that, then you apparently have a few screws knocked loose." She said, her anger mounting all over again, though she did spare a glance for said daughter saying the word 'look,' though it made little sense.

Fell, in return to the glare, stuck his tongue out. "Nyah." He gave the man the rasberry, but gave Kirkcaldy a fast grin before sliding quickly under the bench, stirring up a small cloud of dirt around n'Barit's legs. If he wanted dirty, Fell could provide that in plenty, though he did at least hope it didn't get in Kirkcaldy's eyes.

romesilk
The dirt did not bother n'Barit -- not any more -- but it still rankled. That was as potent an insult as one could make in the Yuulani culture. Furthermore, a different wind and the dirt could have touched Kirkcaldy! "Hey!" snapped n'Barit, tightening his grip on Kirkcaldy. Bugger, the boy was out of his reach under the bench. He would just have to keep his efforts on the mother. He huffed at her, "I hate to break it to you but not all kids are special! Some are dumb, some are ugly, some are weak and puny. Some, like yours, are all three! We can't all be Tuulani, someone has to be Yuul!"

In his arm, Kirkcaldy gave a little squeak of dismay. N'Barit's grip wasn't anything painful or upsetting, it was just reflective of his level of alarm, a protective instinct. Unfortunately, the tightening grip usually precipitated n'Barit striking at someone. It was a good thing his crutch was still on the bench.

Satin Regret
Fell clambered up behind the bench, squatting down to peer through the boards. He gave Kirckaldy a big, impish grin and a little thumbs up. He wasn't really sure what he could do right now, but making this man turn red was fun, though his mom would probably get mad later.

The angel's eye twitched slightly as he spoke; she hadn't a clue what on earth he was talking about. Tuulani? Yuul? Some of her irritation drained out of her, simply because she had never been able to be confused and angry at the same time. Crossing her arms on her chest, she shifted her feet so she was balancing on one of her heels. "I hate to break it to you, but some kids and people also aren't from your world. Would you care to explain with your supposedly superior intellect what Tuulani and Yuul are?" She had noticed the tightened grip, and in response the muscles in her shoulders and wings bunched, tensed and ready to snap open if need be.

N'Barit, as much as he loved to argue, was far past being helpful. "No," he said, with the kind of smug smirk that clearly meant "I'm being a jerk to you and it's intentional." His arms finally relaxed at his perceived victory for knowing something this inferior did not and he shifted Kirkcaldy in his arms, moving her weight to a different spot.

Over n'Barit's shoulder, Kirkcaldy smiled sunnily to Blackfell. She was happy the danger was gone. Sure, n'Barit had been mean again, but at least he was being mean and happy. That was far better than mean and angry.

N'Barit added ridiculously, "Given the context, anyone with half a brain could figure it out." He was probably having far too much fun insulting Nikomas.

Satin Regret
Niko glowered at the man again, a tick becoming apparent in her eye as her anger rose again. Insufferable, conniving, dirty little- The thought went through her head, but she stopped it, taking a calming breath. She didn't say a word, instead just walked over to Blackfell, grabbing his hand and swinging him onto her back.

One she had her son, she turned back to n'Barit. "I won't say it was a pleasure to meet you. I will say, though, that I pity your daughter." She turned slightly to look at Kirkcaldy, and gave her a small smile. "It was nice to meet you, at least. You're a pretty girl." The angel said, before looking back at Kirk's "father." She didn't say anything, just turned on her heel and walked away. There was nothing she could say that would either get across his thick head or wouldn't be bad to say in front of children.

N'Barit grinned to himself, an expression caught only by Kirkcaldy as she turned her head to watch Blackfell leave with his mother. Her smile was bright, the upset of the moment lost on her, Nikomas's anger and frustration a completely adult and therefore foreign affair from her perspective. Her smile was the last thing Blackfell saw of her as n'Barit whisked her away to the newly-conquered park bench and collapsed Kirkcaldy's world back into one that contained only the two of them.

Midnight, Solo/Dream Post

A Look Into the Past

Another sleepless, or near so, night. At least for Blackfell it was. Since he had grown, his crib had been moved to the basement, and he had a small single bed now, and it was on this bed that the toddler was tossing and turning.

Dark, confusing dreams were haunting him, like the mis-remembered ones from a few months ago. Only this time, there was more detail, as opposed to mere flashes of faces and places...

Two dark skinned people looked like they were arguing. They were both men, and one looked vaguely familiar. They were standing next to a bed in a messy, rundown looking room, with a sickly looking woman taking up the bed, eyes shut and short of breath, her dark skin a pale, sickly grayish color as she slept. The two men were arguing heatedly, it being obvious the sleeping woman was the topic in question.

"-you can't! You're more likely to die then get anywhere close enough to be of any help at all! Would you leave her here, dying already, on some whim that you think might save her?" The unfamiliar man asked; by his tone of voice, he would rather be shouting and shaking the other man by the shoulders to maybe shake some sense into him, but, for concern for the sleeping woman, kept his voice down to a terse conversational level.

"It's the only possible way she might live, Nightwind! Would you throw away the smallest chance that there might be something to help her? She's your own flesh and blood for Moon's sake! Your own
sister as well as mine!" The familiar man was shouting now, causing the woman, their sister, on the bed to stir with a small groaning whimper.

The two immediately shutup, waiting silently for her to resume her irregular breathing. Once she had, one of them, Nightwind, grabbed the nameless familiar one by the arm in a vice grip, dragging him outside into a dank hallway, quietly shutting the door behind him.

"You are
not going! Darksong, you can't go. Would you do that to Moonshine?" Nightwind asked, his gold eyes sharp as they glared into Darksong's face...

Blackfell rolled off his bed with a grunt, falling onto the floor amidst his pink and black bedsheets. Rubbing his head, he sat up, leaning agaisnt the side of his matress. What was that? Darksong? He was familiar. The toddler thought. That dream mad absolutely no sense, but he got a feeling of familiarity from the one man, Darksong.

Fell couldn't for the life of him figure out why, but he could already feel the details of the dream slipping from his mind, as most were prone to de. He vainly tried to keep a grasp on them, but all he was left with were three names; Nightwind, Moonshine and Darksong.

With Anala

Oldies Unite!

Satin Regret
Another day in the park. Fun. Niko had to admit, the park was getting boring after coming so often. Sure, it was nice, but still. Fell still loved it, though; he never got tired of swinging around on the playground, as he was doing now. The angel smiled fondly at her young son, laughing as he looked very like a monkey, flapping his wings as he swung back and forth to keep balance.

Blackfell was indeed on the playground as usual, swinging around before climbing up through the bars to walk across the monkey bars, standing on the bars and crawling across on his hands and knees, grinning broadly from ear to ear in delight. Heights didn't seem to bother him in the least.

Tahoi

Finally, the outdoors! Lately, school had become hectic, with teachers piling on projects and papers. But today Alek finished the last of the work, meaning that he could go out for the first time in weeks. Carrying Anala in one hand and a book in the other, he limped along in the park. Once in sight of the playground, he let a squirming Anala down.

Anala crawled towards the playground, glad to be outside. Looking around at the equipment, she caught sight of another child, a boy, up on the monkeybars. Crawling until she was almost under him, she stared up at him, amazed at how high up he could go.

Tahoi
Anala nodded, looking around the playground. What to play, what to play... Since there weren't other kids around in her neighborhood, she didn't know many games. "Wachu wana play?"

((Help, I'm low on ideas! xD;; ))

Tahoi
Anala jumped, mouth agape in surprise. Then she smiled and laughed, clapping. How cool! She wished she could move that easily, but she probably wouldn't be able to for a while yet. "Hi! Tha was cool!"

Alek whistled, watching Anala with another kid. He was glad she had the company; there weren't any children her age in the apartment complex.

Satin Regret
Fell tilted his head to the side; he'd seen her before, somewhere. A looong while ago. And she could talk, the same as he could when he was still little. Was she his age, then? "What's your name?" He asked, having an idea who it might be, a very vague idea, granted, but still.

Tahoi
"A-na-la." She spoke slowly, a look of utter concentration appearing on her face. It disappeared with the last syllable, and Anala smiled. She was able to say her whole name this time! Speech was still somewhat tricky for her to grasp, but at least she was making progress. She tilted her head, imitating Fell. "You?"

Satin Regret
A wide grin spread on his face. "I'm Blackfell, but you can just call me Fell." He said with a smile, flopping backwards onto his back on the woodchips, his wings splayed underneath him. "Have me played before?" Fell asked her, looking at her over his toes.

Tahoi
Anala returned his smile, sitting on her feet with her hands on her knees. Then she tilted her head back, looking at the sky as she racked her memory. Had she seen him before? It was possible; her memory of recent events was a bit like swiss cheese. Fell could have been one of those little holes. But really... "I'unno." Anala's head fell forward. "Ca-no 'member."

Satin Regret
Fell sat up as she looked a little gloomy, but he grinned. "Don't worry 'bout it." He said, hopping up onto his feet. "C'mon, wanna play on the bars?" The boy asked, bouncing lightly on his toes, his wings fluttering behind him.

Tahoi
Anala brightened at Fell's words, nodding. She got to her feet, wobbling. Counting down, she expected to fall...but didn't. Yet. Holding her arms away from her sides, she asked, "How play...?" She knew what the bars were, but had never seen people play on them before.

Satin Regret
Fell grinned at her again, walking around behind her and sliding his arms under hers, helping her up. "You swing on them. Like this." He clambered up the little ladder, grabbing onto the bars with his hands and proceeding to simply swing back and forth.

Tahoi
Anala giggled, slightly ticklish, and gripped the bars that came into reach. Hanging there, she watched Fell as he came up and swung. That...looked interesting. Looking down at her own feet, she moved her legs back and forth, trying to imitate Fell.

Satin Regret
Fell grinned, swinging a little further to hook his legs around one of the bars, dropping his hands so he hung upside down. He gave her a gentle little push on her belly to get her moving. "Like that! Move your body."

Tahoi
Anala raised her eyebrows, still staring at her feet. Adjusting her hands, she suceeded in swinging herself for two whole minutes before her hands decided to remind her that she was still an infant, and her muscles weren't that sturdy yet. Her hands started slipping.

Satin Regret
Fell grabbed the bars with his hands again, dropping down onto the woodchips of the playground with a soft thud, as Anala's fingers started sliding off. He scooted forward underneath her, sitting indian style with his arms up to catch her, a goofy grin on his face since he knew he probably wasn't strong enough to totally grab her, but then, the woodchips would help some of the weight.
Tahoi
Anala barely noticed Fell's movements, all attention diverted by the realization that she was stuck mid-swing, she was going to fall, and when she did, it was probably going to be bottom- or back-first. Great. Feeling her hands let go, she gave a short yelp, cutting off upon impact.

Satin Regret
Fell let out a small grunt as her weight fell into his lap, his arms under her armpits. "Not hurt?" He asked simply, unfurling his little wings and flapping them slightly to help himself balance.

Tahoi
Anala nodded. "Fell ok?" she asked, looking back. She crawled out of his lap and turned to face him, looking sheepishly towards the ground. "Sorry." Plopping down, she then smiled at Fell, half relief and half excitement. "Thankyu!"

Satin Regret
Fell grinned, shaking his head. "S'fine, no worries." He said, smiling cheerfully. As she said thank you, he stood up, pulling her up with him. "C'mon, wanna play somethin' else then?"

Tahoi
Anala nodded, looking around the playground. What to play, what to play... Since there weren't other kids around in her neighborhood, she didn't know many games. "Wachu wana play?"

Evening, Solo Post

Fear of Lightning

Fell was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling of his darkened room. He could hear thunder rolling in the distance, which was the cause for the small tremors shaking his hands which were balled into sweaty fists ontop of his chest, slowly but systematically twisting the blankets into knots and untying them, most likely a newly formed nervous habit.

He turned his head to look out the window, his gold eyes gleaming with each flash of lightning, each bright streak causing his body to shudder under the blankets. Though he couldn't for the life of him say why, he was scared of the vivid flashes, couldn't stop picturing getting hit by one, getting fried or roasted or something else just as gruesome. The thunder did nothing beyond keep him awake, but the lightning was certainly bothering the boy. Throwing his covers off, he slipped silently out of the small bed, eyeing it oddly. Coulda sworn it was bigger'n that... Fell thought, though he didn't dwell on it long.

Padding quietly to the bathroom, he ran the sink faucets, splashing cold water on his face as he noticed the markings on his wrists. There were more now, more then before, and they were more then just swirls. They looked kinda cool now, instead of boring like before. He looked up into the mirror, cold beads of water dripping off his nose and chin. Blimey, that's why the bed's smaller. Fell looked into a face that was his, but not the chubby face of an almost baby, but more of a normal kid. His yellow-gold eyes were wide in the tanned face, but there wasn't too much of a difference. He was taller, that was for certain. Maybe he actually passed four feet this time! He gave the person in the mirror a crooked smile, seeing it reflected back.

Shaking his head, he splashed more water on his face, trying to put off going back to his room. It wasn't like Fell could see any lightning flashes from in the bathroom, at least. He shuddered slightly as he heard a loud crack of thunder, the sound seeming to come from directly above the house. Looking aprehensively out the windows as he left the bathroom, Fell jogged back to his room, his hair flouncing slightly with each step. He dove back into his bed, pulling the covers over him and holding his pillow over his head so he wouldn't see the vivid white flashes bouncing across his walls.

Sometime in August, 2007
Unwilling Return, Lost Innocence, and the Homecoming

[This will just be a detailed summary. Will do it again from third-person perspective at some point.]

It was sometime in the middle of August, Niko and Fell doing everyday activities. Playing in a park, actually. The angel was watching her son swing around on the monkey bars, when she felt a massive amount of dark energy gathering around her. A demon from her old world, Oasis, was pulling forces together to make a portal to carry her back; she knew this, but couldn't resist it. Her strength had weakened in Gaia, so she couldn't even put forth a token fight.

All Blackfell could see was his mother being pulled into a dark hole, floating in the air above the ground. He took a flying leap off the bars, latching onto his mother's leg, causing them both to be pulled through and dumped unceremoniously on cold stone ground.

They were in the depths of a castle somewhere in Oasis, held captive by a demon lord by the name of Chrysalis. He knew some of Heaven's inner workings, and the fact that Niko had been a high ranking angel that was expelled. So he dragged her back, though a small brat being brought along was a surprise. Not one Chrysalis couldn't deal with, anyways. He clapped them both in chains in the dungeon, preparing painful, devastating ways to make Niko confess the secrets of Heaven.

He was only partially successful. Chrysalis used his black magic to invade the angel's mind, tainting her and destroying her innocence, her naivety, darkening her wings to those of a black angel. If there was any chance of her returning to Heaven before, it was gone now. Playing mental games with her wasn't so successful, though. She held tough, keeping quiet through the pain, even as everything about herself turned dark.

It wasn't until he experimented on Blackfell that she went crazy.

When the demon had first started on Niko, Fell was hanging from a pair of chains nearby. He immediately started thrashing and screaming, shouting to leave her be, don't hurt her, whatever a child could think of to shout, he said it. Eventually, Chrysalis ordered one of the guards to shut the brat up, at which point the guard punched Fell on the back of the skull, knocking him out cold, and eliciting a piercing scream from his mother.

When Chrysalis saw the different reactions, he set the guard to physically hurting Fell to make the former angel talk. They took Fell down, dumping him in the middle of the room and attaching iron weights to his skinny ankles, so he couldn't move. The guard Fell multiple lacerations on his back from a whip, the sound of leather on flesh making Niko scream with every hit. He felt the burning of daggers, going slowly across his chest. Not enough to kill him, but enough to disable the child from the pain, and to send his mother into hysterics, finally breaking down for Chrysalis.

What Chrysalis had forgotten, though, was he had another angel of Heaven held prisoner, too. And the angel, Redha, knew all that was going on. Redha was another high ranking angel, who had been taken by surprise, and so was captured by the demon. What Chrysalis wasn't aware of, was that Redha still had some power left. Not alot, but just enough to force open a gate between Oasis and Gaia, before Niko could reveal any major secrets of Heaven.

The power from the gate broke the chains binding Niko and Fell, forcing them into the gate, immediately shutting the moment they disappeared into the violet and purple energies...

[To be continued... twisted ]
