Nothing will ever be able to compete with A Link to the Past. I really love the 16-bit graphics, even better than the newer, more realistic ones. It's just a quirk of mine, but if I'm going to be playing a video game, I want it to be a little pixellated and fake-looking. I'm only slightly familiar with the first two games, and haven't played any of the games for Game Boy or GBA. The only two new-ish ones I've played are Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. They were okay, but I kind of have to detach myself from the mindset that I am playing Zelda games or they irritate me.
I never had the pleasure of an NES of my own when I was a child; we had a Sega Master System instead.. but my boyfriend bought me a top-loading NES last year and I'm catching up. I've played through Adventure of Link a bit and it's a bit odd playing Zelda like a Mario-ish platform game, but I like it. Anyway, I like the older ones because they're harder and have better gameplay. It seems that when they made the newer games gameplay was thrown out the window when they realized that the graphics could be improved so much. >.>
