i had a black Muslim English friend

he was a bouncer at a goth club, he got shot twice in the spine and died

...that's horrible.

mosques =/= black population, though, was the point.

Well look at it this way, whilst we do have afro-carribeans and indeed african-europeans. The majority of the minority, which lets be honest isn't that big a minority anymore. Is mainly Hindu's and Muslims, I guess that sounds racist, I mean I have afro-carribean friends, I have friends of afro-carribean descent that have never even been to the carribean. I'm not racist by any stretch. But the fact is, in england, the black populous gets lumped as those with 'dark skin', hell people have even thought, because I have a dark complexion for someone who's been born and raised in england (due to some italian descent on my fathers side), that I was of Muslim or Hindu descent. The lines in this country are blurred into one unfortunatly, and that line, envokes a them and us mentality on both sides.

Though to be honest, I can see where alot of the more Right wing people are comming from, we do treat immigrants better then our own citizens, and to be honest it annoys the hell out of me. The number of jobs I've not got, because though I'm better qualified, they had to take on a minority to keep the government happy.

Its a whole complex trap, which I am guilty of falling into.

of muslim descent? i didn't know 'muslim' was used to describe a race.
i also didn't know indians were considered black. i guess it's never too late to learn new things.

how does the government check if a corporation has sufficient minorities employed? do they have different IDs? does it state anywhere that they belong to a minority? or do the government officials go through the list of employees and count the ones with foreign-looking names?

i am aware that immigrants from 3rd world countries are causing big problems in europen countries; they are allowed into the country because they provide cheap labor (which is why they are preferred for jobs, mostly). they work for prices much lower than the unemployment pay the citizens get, thus causing it harder for citizens to get jobs. they have problems integrating into the social structure, are often marginalised and create angry masses. as much as the state tries to prevent any discrimination, they are outsiders, and remain outsiders. just workpower, and nothing more. were the lines blurred, being of 'hindu descent' would not be something that attracts the attention of anyone.... but it is.

i'm not even getting into the whole muslims-taking-over-the-world issue.

this is one of those things i can't debate because i'm a naive socialist humanist idealist who believes very passionately that with the right opportunities and nourishment, all people can be free.
(dabs at a tear)

so anyway, it's extremely racial-stereotyping to associate the black population with mosques in such a bitter way, no matter how you try to rationalise it.

My bad, those of Pakistani or Indian decent, our employers have to fill out equal opportunity forms, one of the questions on it is 'Describe your ethnicity'. That form then gets sent to the government to check statistics. Whilst they work well as cabbies or cheap labor, if they apply for an office job, they are more likely to get it, regardless of suitability. Like it or not, thats the truth of the matter. As for the state trying to keep them from being violent, your having this debate with someone from Oldham, I think its fair to say the state fail miserably at that, because they spend so much money on immigrant workers (did you know the job centre gives them free driving lessons, but when I mention I need them for a job I can easily do, but need a car for I get told they can't help.) Hence the Oldham riots, beleive me, its not as glorified and fair as people think or make out.

The system doesn't work.

If you really want to get into the debate, I have lots I can say, but frankly it will all make me sound right wing, far too right wing when I'm in the center.

There is a slight problem of being overly-sensitive to people that aren't white-British, yes, I see no point in the "describe your ethnicity", give everyone a number, leave out the names, no "ethnicity" questions, people get chosen from their qualitications alone as far as I'm concerned. My mum tried to get a job and would have gotten it if the department hadn't had the government beathing down their necks to "divercify" their department.

But, this is about stereotypes hun, not a big debate on migration etc, hm, maybe have a new thead for that....

What about the Japanese?

And why just Chinese children? Do they suffer from intelligence loss as they grow old?

User Image

There's only one type of east Asian community in the UK: the chinese (despite there actually being Japanese and Koreans), according to the sterotypes. And as soon as those kids hit 30, they immedeately start talking with an accent and own chinese take-aways/returaunts.

Sorry just a bit of a touchy subject. *bows*

Besides I'm gonna stop debating now, because I am coming off way to right wing and I don't like that.

Aw, s'ok 3nodding

Any white person that critisises the system will always come off as right-wing, even if they do support diversity (hell, what on earth is white british? A load of Italians, French, Danish, Germans, and Norweigans, that's what. Romans, Vikings and then William the Conquerer; the White Brits are aload of mongrels with the amount of times we've been invaded rofl ). And damnit, there I go again going off-topic.

i have no clue where oldham is, sadly.
and i'd rather not debate on foreign workers in england, or and other country, because i'm completely against it.
i also don't think there's anything wrong with sounding right-wing, as long as you sound correct.
the state will not waste money on immigrant workers for nothing, the system might be failing, but it will not fail on making money out of it's citizens and wannabe-citizens. the english system is too old and too well-established to fail on such a matter. it does, however, fail both in keeping their citizens economically happy so they don't grow a grudge against foreigners, and keeping the foreigners socially happy so they won't be marginalised and eventually outcast.

i apologise for going out of subject, just wanted to make clear that i am not defending foreign workers, or the policies of any european country on this matter. i believe it to be a no-win for both the people of the country and the immigrant workers.

I heard a joke the other day that pretty much sums up the stereotypes each native British ethnic group applies to all the others...

So, two Welshmen, two Scotsmen, two Irishmen and two Englishmen get stranded on an island.

The two Welshmen start a choir.

The two Scotsmen start a bank.

The two Irishmen start a fight.

And the two Englishmen don't say a word to each other, because they haven't been introduced.

Americans:

Red-Neck colonialist upstarts. (this could go on for a while..) Americans are usually pictured as arrogant, cocky, and too self confident for such a young coutry by far.

It's sad how true this is for so many people. I'm really glad that I at least live in Seattle and not, like, Alabama or Texas or something. I would definately die of overexposure to idiocy. No offense to Alabamans (is that a word?) or Texans...The stereotypical Americans just seem to gather in places like these.

Ah, the quote thing isn't working! Whatever.

Fixed it for you^^

Ah, seattle. Stereotype for that city: all the males there are grungers on heroin, or gangsters selling the heroin.

Hm, you get the people that fit the stereotype everywhere. I'm currently nursing a poor drunken girl, fitting her stereotype that teen girls spend their weekends getting drunk.
