I'll be honest, I generally find her annoying since I'm not fond of violent female characters. But, not because of that scene, I thought her reaction was pretty reasonable. I may not like her, but I can't say she annoyed me the most at that time. If anything, I think I felt a little less dislike for her because of sympathy. There are these times she hits Kenshin for no reason, that grew to annoy me rather than amuse me later on in the series.

I believe in Jesus Christ, my Savior. If you do too, and aren't scared to admit it, then copy and paste this into your signature. The anime played up Kaoru's faults to the point of absurdity. Yes, there were times in the manga when she smacked Kenshin or whacked him with her bokken. But from volume 13 on, she never did that again and really just kinda grew up. The anime doesn't bother to show her character growth.

The anime doesn't always follow the manga, unfortunately. Maybe they just added it in for the humor...?

Almost all main-female characters annoy me, but Kaoru's definitely not the worst, I say that title goes to Shirley Fennes, for being kidnapped 3 times within the first 5 hours of gameplay in Tales of Legendia, and for being a pure Mary-Sue.
At least Kaoru can fight for herself to some extent.

In the posision she's in i don't blame her for not shuting up the 1 she loves she thinks will die if the fight continous.

I think she is plagued with mary-sue syndrome. A lot of female mains have it, but she is not THE MOST annoying female role, by any means. Though, I do not like her much myself. In the manga, she is at least tolerable, and a bit more mature.

I think first that you should spell Kaoru's name properly in order to make your point of view more credible. She can be annoying at times, but I think her concern for Kenshin is realistic and I like having her there in the series, especially in the manga where she is more mature . The author planned her well as a motive for Kenshin to preserve his innocence and to not fall into the Hitokiri Battosai mode.
