And I assume this is Fox, no doubt. Ugh! Either go to school or become a millionaire, that's their only valid point of argument. But then again they may just buy out Dow-Jones...

That's really kind of sad... But then again, these people are paid to act stupid. That's what I've heard at least.

Back in my day, I fought all those subjects with a stick! Except mathematics. Not my strongest suit, but I'm improving on it.

I'm headmistress at a boarding school. What do you think I did to all the subjects? I taught!

Headmistress??? I'll be sure to remember that if I need help with my last few essays. biggrin

I don't think I've ever heard someone say the word drunk without meaning they had too much to drink. I wonder if this guy calls himself drank when he's had too many.

I was watching that show, and the person didn't know whether or not flock was plural or singular.

It made me sad, it did.

I'm bad with past tense though (shame on me!). I probably would have stared at that question for awhile, but I can't see myself getting it wrong.

Hahaha! I saw that episode. I think I was screaming at the T.V. because that guy was so dumb. Except I wasn't literally screaming, it was just in my head. Still... it was awful! stressed

It pains me to see people on that show who only reinforce the blonde stereotype. "How many quarts are in 5 gallons?" "Duh... uh..."

That show isn't even being "smarter" than a fifth grader, it's remembering mostly useless facts from two lessons every grade.

So I'm in fifth grade, but I don't remember learning every question. It's a different curriculum, of course, but still... I am, on average, waaay smarter than a fifth grader.

Edit: A headmistress? Wow. No offense to anything or anyone, but I don't usually picture adults in general online on Gaia. Seriously, though, it's cool that you are. heart

I watch this show quite often. It seems that most of the questions asked, are harder than they seem. For example, lets say they ask an algebra question, but it's in the 4th grade section. Not many schools teach algebra in the 4th grade. At least none that I know of.

Well, actually, you have to walk a mile in their shoes, however clichè it sounds. Think about it. You're on semi-live notional TV, under huge bright lights, and are being asked questions you think you should know the answers to, but can't remember under pressure.

Think about it.

It's not only the pressure....when was the last time you've done some of that work? I mean, I'm only sixteen and I find myself forgetting some of the work taught during Grade 1-5. But on that note, American school seemed like a lot. A class on measurement. Thankfully, I know such measurements because I cook but I'd much rather use SI units such as metres, grams. I've never been a fan of pounds, yards, feet and miles. Everyone should just stick to the SI units. >_>

But I had been completely baffled on a simple question once on that show where they asked how many sides does a trapezoid have. I had no idea what a trapezoid was until looking in the dictionary to find out it was the American term for trapezium. That was new to me...

It's quite scary to think that so many people probably also had to think on that one also!

"Drunk" as the past tense for "drink?" Are they serious!? That sounds like something my retarded 11-year-old step-sister would say... Actually, I think she does say that. gonk She also says "tooken" instead of "taken." Has anyone else heard that one?

"Tooken..."

It makes my brain bleed.

Oh I've seen that show before. It's really stupid. It's sad how your average american can't seem to be smarter than a kid. Shows what T.V. and no reading does to your brain.

I really want to move out of America. I would really, seriously hate it if it weren't for the philly cheesesteaks.

It's pretty sad when your county's only redeeming feature is food. neutral

Im not planning on leaving my country anytime soon and the show is a trick. The people arent that stupid, its just what they are asked. Even though i have tested at genious level throughout my entire life if you ask me something that i learned even ten years ago (when i was in second grade or so) that i havent used or had to remember since then i am most likely not going to be able to remember it. As for the grammer and such most adults dont use the same thought processes as children and they dont spend five minutes to decide how to pronounce something. They will just say it wrong and so when they get onto shows like this, that have been based on what (and more importantly how) children are taught it really is unfair.

The elementary school I went to started pre-Algebra in fifth grade.

I watch the show on occasion, and there are some categories that seem out of place. I definitely didn't learn some of that stuff until at least Middle School.

I find the questions I have trouble with on the show are areas that I have just never been good at. I don't think I've ever missed one of the math related questions in an episode I saw. But throw out some US history, or world geography? I'll be lucky if I can guess and come close to the correct answer. Subjects I like and have always been good at come back to me easily, but the ones I enver really cared for just kind of slip away from me.
