[Would our Edward care to begin?]

[Oh - I feel honoured!! biggrin o.O]

The rather large library was dark in contrast to the bright, sunny day outside. The reason behind the darkness was that the heavy red curtains had been drawn, casting the room into complete darkness, save one reading lamp on a table piled high with books. Behind this pile of books sat a boy, who appeared no more than seventeen.

This boy, it could have been said, had abnormally good looks; his uniquely pale skin and his strangely coloured bronze hair stood out significantly. One may have mistaken him for a movie star of some sort, as many often had. His light topaz eyes reflected the lamplight dully as he absorbed himself in his novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin.

The boy rubbed his eyes wearily, closing the book - it was a pointless book, 43 chapters long about a rebellious boy who liked to get himself in to trouble., with the help of his friends, and mostly everyone died in the end.

A book before his time, anyway. Actually, about sixteen years before his time.

Edward Anthony Masen Jr. had been born in 1901, to Elizabeth and Edward Masen Sr. Shortly after, in 1918, the Spanish Influenza effected his family and his mother and father died, leaving the dying Edward alone. Carlisle Cullen, the doctor, had saved his life, but, in Edward's mind, at the price of Edward's soul.

For Carlisle was a Vampire, and had made Edward into such.

Edward threw Huck Fin across the room and picked up another book - Moby d**k, only to lay it aside. Tired of reading, he walked out of his "father"'s library, into the main hall and to his white, extravagant, grand piano. He caressed the ivory keys softly, sitting on the bench, as he began to play his most favourite of his own compositions.

Bella's Lullaby.

[.. I hope it's not too long... lol..]

[Not at all!]

Bella glanced up at the clock from the stove, her palms getting sweaty. Thirty minutes. Only thirty minutes until she could see him. In thirty minutes, her day of waiting in agony would be over.

After her little rendez-vous in Volterra, and basically taking off without a word to Charlie or anyone else, Isabella Marie Swan had been on house arrest. Edward was only allowed a few visiting hours in the evening per day, and that was if Charlie was in a good mood. Bella's father wasn't quite attached to Edward. In fact, sometimes Bella thought that Charlie hated him, more or less. Regardless, it was only half an hour.

Turning back to the stove, Bella continued with her cooking. That was another reason why Charlie more than likely still allowed Edward to visit. Whenever Bella became sad, her cooking wasn't all that, and Charlie was left to do it. Well...let's just say that nothing Charlie made was ever edible.

Edward groaned loudly as he finished playing Bella's song. Her house arrest wasn't helping anything, really, and he knew Charlie was not impressed with Bella for going to Volterra. None the less - house arrest was going a bit far.

Not that Charlie knew that he sometimes stayed with Bella at night. If he did... Edward did not want to think about the consequences - he'd probably put that DOG, Jacob Black, outside her door to guard it. Edward looked at the clock - 15 minutes to go. It would take him maybe ten minutes to get to Bella's house, if he drove slowly.

If he COULD drive slowly.

Edward stood up, stretched, and grabbed the keys to his Volvo. If he was going to practice safe driving, now was the time to do it.

He walked outside without saying a word too the rest of his family - Alice would tell them where he went, or they'd guess. Either way.

((and in comes Alice! *takes a bow* hahaha, i'm just kidding. Now let's see...))

A short, pixie-like girl was laying spread out on top of her bed, a pencil in her mouth. Her amber eyes were fixed on her back wall, not blinking. She was deep in thought, but not over the newspaper that was layed out in front of her. She was thinking about a huge clothes sale that would be happening at a store down in Seattle this weekend. As she thought about all the clothes she could buy, a perfect smile crossed her face. Cross word puzzels would never be able to keep her attention the way a good sale could. It was like, after you did a few centuries of cross word puzzels, they all seemed the same.

Alice sighed as she remembered that Bella was under house arrest, so she wouldn't be able to drag her along to the store. Alice was alowed to go to Bella's house any time she wanted, but Bella wasn't alowed to come out with Alice. Which meant no shopping. Alice decided she would just have to buy Bella a few new shirts... And shoes... And jeans. And whatever else she saw that she thought Bella would need. It could be her way of thanking Bella for saving her brother a few weeks ago in Volterra.

Alice sighed again quietly. She glanced at the clock and knew that Edward had probably already headed over to Bella's house, the same way he did every night. She sat up on her bed, deciding that she might go over there too a little later. She wondered if Bella would be angry if she popped by for a little. She might just want to have a little time alone with Edward. But she shook her head, deciding that Bella would see Edward again later tonight, so she could live through an evening of Alice. It would be fun!

[Sidenote: Alice graduates the same time as Bella and Edward...so I don't think she'd have any homework. Not a big deal, just a small piece of information. =D]

As the minutes ticked by, Bella became more and more anxious. Calling out to her father, she left the finished meal of chicken and mashed potatoes on the table for Charlie to devour at will. "Dad, dinner's ready!" He was more than likely watching a game on TV or something, which would explain the mess of voices and cheering the echoed off the walls of the small house.

Ten minutes. Ten minutes until Edward would be here. It was so soon, and yet, it didn't seem soon enough to her. She hated her punishment, though in her mind knew it was rightly deserved.

Bella quickly dashed up the stairs, retreating into her room to change. What to wear? Why, Edward's favorite blue blouse, of course. Edward had always liked the color of blue against her pale skin, and if blue was what Edward liked, blue was what Edward would get.

As Bella pulled the blouse over her head and situated the bottom seam neatly over her jeans a bit, she heard the quiet hum of a car outside. Her heart started pounding.

He was here.

Edward looked at the clock in his Volvo, wondering if Charlie would let him in the house five minutes early. He had driven as slow as he was physically capable, and it still wasn't slow enough. He was still anxious; anxious of leaving Bella alone again, afraid that it would inspire another cliff-jumping episode.

He cut the engine of his car and sighed, taking his keys and sitting, quietly, in the driver's seat. He was torn between waiting n his car, to appease Charlie, or walking up to the door step and waiting there.

Edward opened his car door and got out, closing and locking the door behind himself. Slowly, painfully slowly, Edward made his way up to Bella's father's front door. Up the driveway, up the three steps, and five paces to the door itself.

Edward was about to knock when he heard Charlie think about what an annoyance that he, Edward, was.

Of course, Charlie would never think ALICE was an annoyance.

Edward sighed again as he waited patiently for Bella to answer the door.

(oh poop... You're right, I'm sorry. I'll fix it. Sorry again.)

Alice leaped off her bed with great elegance, and began to skip out of her room, her excitement practically bubbling out of her. She was fantasizing about painting Bella's fingernails when all of a sudden everything she saw went black. She stopped in her tracks, knowing she was having a vision.

A picture slowly came into focus in Alice's mind. It was of two exceptionally beautiful people sitting at what looked to be an airport terminal. The man was extremely fragile looking, with skin that looked like onion skin. His long jet black hair was pushed behind him carelessly. His eyes, which looked fogged over, were staring straight ahead calmly. The girl however was the exact opposite in every way. She was glaring at all the humans around her, her small nose wrinkled as if they were not to her liking. Her hair was cut short and of course her skin was pale, but she looked significantly stronger than the man sitting besides her.

Alice recognized them at once. Aro and Jane.

Aro and Jane were outside of Volterra, and heading some where by plane. As her vision slowly faded, she noticed one more thing. She gasped as her room came back into focus, all earlier excitement was gone from her eyes. The sign over Aro and Jane had said "To Washington". They were coming for Bella, and soon.

Before she even had time to think any more, she was out her front door and headed for Bella's house. She didn't even bother grabbing a car because she knew she could run faster than any sports car.

Bella was at the door lightning fast, and by golly, was she glad that she had beat Charlie to it.

"Edward.."

Looking at him was both amazing and horrible. His beauty far outmatched her own, and she felt completely horrid when standing next to him. Reaching up with her hand, she gently stroked his face, smiling for a bit. "You seem cold.."

She grinned at the joke that Charlie would never get.

[SO SORRY! I'VE BEEN GROUNDED! GRRRR...]

((Ugh... school + Grounded = Not fun... Sorry, girls.. x_X))

Edward flashed Bella his crooked smile, instantly understanding the joke. He was, of course, always cold. Not that it bothered him - in fact, it bothered him only when Bella needed that warmth, needed the feel of human flesh.

Not the flesh of a vampire.

"Well... I do suppose it's getting colder," He replied calmly, folding his arms across his chest and raising an eyebrow at his Bella. "I'm due to catch pneumonia if I stay out here much longer, Bella..." This, of course, was a lie, as it simply could not happen. Edward heard Charlie's mind approaching, and he nodded in Charlie's direction.

Within seconds, Bella's father was standing behind her, inside the house. "You're early, Edward." Charlie's distaste was evident.

"Sorry, Sir. I had nothing to do, and figured a couple minutes more wouldn't hurt anything," Edward smiled apologetically. "If you'd like me to wait out here for-" -Edward paused, checking his watch- "-The two minutes that I was early, I can do that, you know."
