So the other day I'm in town, its a nice windswept rainy day, heralding the return of summer to england. When this guy dressed as the typical 'goff' shoulder barges me without so much as a word of apology, now normally I'd expect that off a chav, but not from someone whose part of a fellow sub-culture. So that night, I'm out with my missus and a few old friends, were drinking having laughs, winding up bar wenches, watching tiger porn (don't ask) and laughing and jeering at all the emo's. When that goff guy reappears, talking to his friends about how he gave it to a big bad metal-head.

So naturally I walk over to him, he turns around, see's me and practically wets himself, until his mates get up and start baring down on me, I eye them one by one (theres about 6 of them) and then they start this big thing about how metal fans are scum and lower then emo... at which point their tirade didn't get far as I head butted the one in front of me.

The point of this is, when did alt. cultures get so aggressive against each other? Last time I checked they were meant to be united against chav (or 'prep') and emo... so did I miss a memo or something, or is this just another example of the increasing elitism in people new to the culture?
Wish I was there I would have put them all in the hospital for thier disgraceful behavor, but culture battles are alot like religous differance. Even the smallest differance can cause violence its just the way it is.Here its the preps, gangsters are sorta a aliie we have an unwritten rule you leave us alone we leave you alone, a few times that rule has been broken only a few. That was cause a few posers decided to get in a fight with the gooths, not only did the goths straighten them out so did the gangsters.

Well thats what I thought happened around where I live, a sort of uneasy peace, especially since the sub-culture divide closed after the race riots happened, but lately that divide has been widening again, and it makes me wonder, if we are on the verge of another riot.

Very High chance in fact, gangsters and goths naturally are too different things, and the sub culture goths (emo ,death, ect) give the actual goth culture qiute a bad name, so naturaly its only a matter of time.

yeah but look at it from this perspective, metal and rap have always been interchangeable, more often then not some G's will listen to some metal and some metal heads will listen to some rap, but we also have strong ties to goth culture, putting us in a situation where if hostilities to the different sub-cultures broadened into much more then isolated incidents, then its a high probability that metal fans like myself will get it from both sides, because we don't chose one over the other.

I didn't realise we were uniting against chavs, preps and other "normals".

I thought I was just living my life.

Yeah, serioulsy, it's not like we're aliens against each other, we're all human here people, I mean, can't people just forget the meaning of some of these labels, just for a minute and life life as being themeselves? It just brings more drama to people to argue about this kind of stuff, you know?

Just sounds like more people using any excuse to feel better about themselves, and in turn act like an a**.
("I'm so cool because I'm goth, everyone else must be scared to death when they see me")

Most people do seem to use their rank/affiliations to gain an extra feeling of self worth.
Sounds like that, but with a person who wants ofthers to notice.
/babble

its so sad to see this because at one time, the goth subculture considered preps to be their "enemy" because they looked down at them and used their social status to put us down. now we're putting each other down?! it's stupid!

Well thats my point, there are people who look down on all non mainstream cultures as being inferior and use ever second to remind us of this, so instead of uniting against that thought, there are now people fighting other sub-cultures to prove a point about who's biggest and baddest.

Yes, sorry. I know that's your point, and I'm trying to also show more to awnser what's kinda the question of the thread.
I like to state my opionins as such. I do hate when people go on about their opinions as fact, while they still remain only opinion.
But a passive wording makes a point harder to pick out, and I was going to try to explain more, but I don't think anyone outside my head would see the difference XD
Sorry about that

I've been thinking a while about this one, and I will eventually post an answer.

Just saying so, as I've recieved a few PM's of people asking me the very same question...

Everyone likes the think they're better than everyoen else. That's where the "emo is POSER goth" thign came from.

Some people are dumbasses, and you reacted like anyone else would heart

But, I don't think anyone should hate any of group of people, even preps and barbies. None of it makes any sense.

Socialogically speaking it does, as the reaction to the unknown is mistrust and fear, which results in aggression against whatever the subject in question is.

Oh lawd. -__-
I hate those kinds of people..

The same thing happened to me a few days ago, in fact.
I tend to represent the rift between the 'gangstas' and the goths around my area. People consider me to be both, so the two different subcultures can get along quite well for the most part.

In any case, some idiot, a 'wigger' as some say, came up and tried to shove me down. I didn't really move, I just stared at him and stepped forward, ready to pound him into the sand. The idiot ran off laughing about how he 'showed' me. I shrugged it off and later ran into him again and he was trying to intimidate me or something.. We both had people behind our back, so we weren't necessarily one on one. I told him if he ever touched me again I would skin him alive and feed him to my dog. He said nothing, so we kept walking. As we were going, he muttered something about 'stupid bitches' and his friend cuffed him upside the head.

Why do people even try..? I don't understand.

Meh, I guess you just found one random group of idiots... they're everywhere, and they don't make very much sense to us almost-sane people.
