Medium-sized vessels in the Imperial armada. The Javelin class is a newer model than the Harrower. It's roughly twice the size , and featured a streamlined design, much like the older Sith Battlecruiser and later Imperial Star Destroyers.

These vessels represent the main guns of the Imperial fleet. While not the largest ship in service, they're treated as the main battery, featuring the most powerful longrange turbolasers in the galaxy. The Javelin is capable of reaching enemy vessels from beyond range, battering the enemy before they can even get close. To compensate the heavier firepower, vessels of this class typically suffer from closer range attacks, especially from fighters. Typically, they'll be guarded by Destroyers and frigates.

The Empire has always been known for building ridiculously big ships, and the Emperor-class is testament to that. When released, she was the biggest conventional warship ever created, along with being one of the most powerful. The Emperor-class serves as the command ship for Imperial fleets during the Great Galactic War. The first ship of her line, Emperor, was presented to the supreme Sith Lord himself, painted entirely black, as opposed to the typical Imperial grey.

Not much can be said about this ship that isn't obvious. It's at least twice the size of a cruiser, carries several times more people than a destroyer, and enough vehicles, fighters, and soldiers to conduct planetary invasions completely by itself. Though she has enough defenses and weapons to hold her own against any ship, she doesn't fare well under concentrated fire, at least without support. Thus, these ships are usually found at the heart of fleets, very well protected. If an Emperor is in danger of being overwhelmed, the battle is already over.

The feature that stands out the most on these vessels are the state-of-the art command centers. Miniature fortresses, the bridge is the most fortified position on the entire ship, even more than the prow. The communications are powerful enough to reach anywhere in Imperial space, including a direct link to the Imperial throneroom. The bridge also features emergency blastshields and back-up shielding to ward off concentrated attack. To make things more complicated, the ship features a secondary bridge, located near the front of the ship, that in emergency situations can act as a secondary command center should the main bridge be taken out. Because of these extra defenses, it is nigh impossible to disable the ship from the bridge, short of launching a starship at hyperspeed into it.

At the height of the Great Galactic War, the Republic pushed out an experimental warship, the Star of Coruscant out to meet the might of the Sith Armada. Larger than any vessel of the time, the Empire needed a weapon to counter the blasphemous ship.

Their answer was the Voidstar.

A massive ship, the Voidstar was built along the same lines of the Harrower-class, but several times larger, and a lot longer. She was the strongest warship ever created, until the Eclipse-class Dreanaught millenia later. She met the Star of Coruscant in battle of Hoth, where she obliterated the ship with her main weapon. Before she could rout the enemy, the ship faced an emergency glitch and leapt into hypspace where it was lost. All crew was lost until being rediscovered years later. Because of the loss of both ships, the two fleets faced a stalemate over Hoth, resulting in the loss of many ships.

The Voidstar, like the Eclipse years later, was treated as the Emperor's prized warship. Aside from being larger and more powerful than any other ship of it's day, she also included many prototype weapons. Her primary weapon was an axial mass driver cannon, capable of firing superheated plasma cells at near lightspeed, similar to the Galaxy Gun. It was this weapon that devasted the Star of Coruscant after one firing.

Capsule:

Meet the Rakghoul, hated vermin of the galaxy, and the number one reason why you shouldn't ever visit a planet called Taris. They're vicious little creatures, just intelligent enough to pose a threat to anything, and able to breed faster than spacebunnies.

The Rakghoul comes to be from a disease called the Rakghoul plague, a virus engineered by the sith lord Karnes Muur. Rakghouls are thus a strain of sithspawn. The disease originated through an item called the Muur Talisman, an artifact created by and inhabited by the spirit of Karnes Muur. Through sith sorcery, Muur can transform pretty much any sentient creature, save prodigious force users into Rakghouls. Rakghouls take the form of degenerate humanoids of varying size and skin tone. Most commonly, they are about 4' tall when hunched over, with grey flesh, squinted eyes, and barbs growing on their body. Their talons are razor sharp, and any bites or scratches that break the flesh are capable of transmitting the disease with a near perfect virulance rate. The transformation usually takes about a day, and is extremely painful. All victims suffer an extreme deduction in sentience and become blood thirsty raving beasts. If you get scratched or bit by a rakghoul, a kinder fate would be to immediately commit suicide; the disease is that bad.

Despite the notion of being mindless, Rakghouls do exhibit some intelligence. They live and hunt in small packs, usually led by an alpha male, who is usually much larger than the others (and in same cases, red). Rakghouls have also been shown to develop intelligence and force potential, in a variant called nekghouls. This is due to a natural evolution of the disease.

Muur was killed by rival sith lords jealous of his power, but his talisman lived on. The talisman was fought over by the Taris Jedi Council and Mandalorian Neo-crusaders, and during battle, the disease was transmitted to Taris, where it spread most horrifically. By the Jedi Civil War, there were an estimated 60 million creatures that were rakghouls or infected by them in the Undercity of Taris.

Since the destruction of Taris, the population likely swelled to more than a billion creatures. The disease was still around and rakghouls were quite numerous when reconstruction efforts began during the Cold War, and Taris would not be free of rakghouls for another 3600 years. The disease lived on however, through the Muur talisman, which was rediscovered by Darth Vader's acquisition of Celeste Morne, a Jedi who had found the talisman years over, took it for herself, and then sealed herself to prevent it spreading. It would continue existing for another 150 years until being destroyed by Cade Skywalker.

So, a word to the rise. If you ever visit a planet inhabited by rakghouls, always wear a protective suit and carry lots of bacta. If you're careful, you can get away with minimal damage. If you're not.... sucks to be you.

Taris. Once a bright spot in the galaxy, this planet spent most of it's existence in the Republic as a dark mark in history.

Located in the Ojoster Sector, Taris was located on one of the early trade routes, and quickly developed into an ecumenopolis that rivaled Coruscant or Nar Shadaa. The planet became massively overpopulated, and fell into stagnation when better trade routes were mapped out, many of which bypassed Taris. Still, the planet remained a major member of the Galactic Republic for years, even having its own Jedi Temple and Council.

Life on Taris was rough. Ever since the Tarisian Civil War, humanocentrisim dominated all politics and life. 'Aliens' were forbidden from living in the upper levels of the city, turning the lower levels, known as the Undercity, into a massive slum that makes Nar Shadaa look pleasant. Things took an unpleasant twist when a sith artifact known as the Muur Talisman brought the rakghoul disease to the planet during the Mandalorian Wars. The disease quickly spread through the Undercity, and would stay on Taris until the Clone Wars.

During the Jedi Civil War, Jedi Knight Bastilla Shan sought refuge on Taris to hide from sith lord Darth Malak. Frustrated by his inability to capture the Jedi and her allies, Malak had his fleet bombard the planet, leveling the city. Anyone not killed in the devastation or able to flee, was quickly set upon by pirates, slavers, rakghouls, and all manners of horrible things.

For centuries, Taris sat, a bad memory the Republic tried to forget, and a place noone in their right mind wanted to go to, save the most desperate criminals. Following the Great Galactic War, however, the Republic decided to return to Taris in an effort to rebuild the planet and restore lost honor. The Sith Empire returned as well to thwart attempts at recolonization and reconstruction. Taris would never return to its former glory, and remained an eyesore even as late as the Clone Wars.

Even Boba Fett, who owned a residence on the rebuilt Taris, had bad memories of the Undercity, which still remained untamable in his day. If the Fett doesn't like this place much, and there's not much he can't handle, then you're better off staying away.

Subject: Drop Pods

Drop pods, also known as Orbital Insertion Vehicles or "eggs", are the best and worse thing to happen to galactic warfare in a long, long time. Imagine being able to land troops, vehicles, or supplies anywhere, at any time. Now stop imagining, cuz these babies bring that reality to the battlefield. That brings an amazing degree of flexibility to your combat capability; just hope your enemy doesn't have the same.

Most drop pods are used to deploy vehicles, droids, and supplies, since the rough, sometimes fatal, ride makes deploying troops in this fashion risky and expensive. Few factions in the galaxy are willing to cover the cost of the most-often disposable pods, and prefer using their elite troops elsewhere instead of dropping them behind enemy lines. The Mandalorians, however, are one exception to this rule; and have learned to use the tactic with their usual brutal efficiency.

Most drop pods are covered with durasteel armor, lead foil, and a ceramic skin. The ceramic burns away upon reentry, and the lead foil is there to keep the armor from ripping away and to replace the ceramic as it burns. However, as the ceramic skin burns away the air inside the pod becomes hotter than a rancor's armpit on a midsummer's day on Tatooine, and if the armored skin that covers a pod is damaged before or during its entry into atmosphere it has a tendency to fail spectacularly, meaning that the unlucky b*****d inside can kiss his a** goodbye. This is the reason why most military forces use them for deploying equipment and resources, and why even the ones who do use them for troops do so with single soldiers or small groups. That way the loss of a pod only results in one death rather than the deaths of an entire unit.

Most drop pods have exterior panels that open at some point during its descent to produce drag, slowing the pod's fall. Many also have rockets that deploy close to the ground, slowing it further. Some may instead have parachutes, but these have been abandoned by most modern armies since it leaves the pod exposed in the air for too long. Few things scare those brave souls who use this technology to enter the battlefield, but the thought of dying before setting foot on it due to some technological f**k-up, or getting shot out of the air in mid-descent, are two of them.

Every soldier, smuggler, merc, or bounty hunter who has been in the biz for more than a month knows that not every gun is created equal. While most firearms on the market will kill a man just fine, some manufacturers have elevated the craft to an art-form. Atlas, is one of the shining examples of these.

The small arms division of the Atlas corporation is famous, (or perhaps infamous), for sparing no expense to produce guns that excel in every area. The Aries is the very pinnacle of that philosophy; a gun almost without equal. While most weapons are crafted with mass production in mind, the Aries was made in a limited-run that only created 13 of the revolvers. Most of these are still in the hands of high ranking officers of the Crimson Lance and executives of the Atlas Corporation. Only 3 have been sold, at 24,000 credits apiece, and one is rumored to have been "misplaced", though Atlas officials have stated that it has merely been moved to storage.

The Aries is an energy-propelled slugthrower, and contained many design implements borrowed from mandalorian sidearms of previous wars and improved upon in Atlas labs. It's high-caliber rounds pierced most energy shields as if they were paper, and the default ammunition provided with the revolver is specially developed for taking down shields. (Though other types of ammunition, such as incendiary, explosive, and corrosive rounds, can be used with the weapon.)

Like most Atlas guns, the Aries is an extremely well-rounded firearm, though being a revolver it is still limited in practical battlefield use. It's defining attribute, however, is in raw damage-dealing power. The Aries can punch through six-inch armor plating, and that's without the armor-piercing rounds.

Many around the galaxy consider the slugthrower to be an outdated technology. But, as with the Aries, the Atlas corporation has proven time and time again that this sentiment is dead wrong...
