Same principal though. A concentrated beam of energy which decimates shields and armor at the cost of slow recharge time and massive energy demands. Just on a smaller scale.

Wrong nomenclature.

Photon Beam, not proton. Star Trek uses mainly light-based weaponry, whereas star wars sticks to molecular based. Hence, no real confusion.

For the most part. But then again, I'm not exactly too unhip on the ST variants, so I don't mix it up so much.

You mean from clone wars? The shots arc downward somewhat... meaning that it was a SPHA-P. The Projectile cannon version.
